What should be the difference in pressure. What to do if there is a big difference between the lower and upper pressure

Do-it-yourself ways to deal with depression in themselves can win soft shapes depressive states. In more serious cases, “self-activity” is unacceptable, specialist supervision is necessary, and natural remedies can be a good help for prescribed measures.

Change your lifestyle

While therapy and medications are the key to managing depression, there is a lot you can do on your own without waiting for the need to swallow pills. Changing behavior - physical, diet and lifestyle - can be an effective natural way to overcome depression.

4. Strive for the goal. Nothing lifts the spirit like achieving a goal. The difficulty lies in determining realistic goals. No need to set global goals or write a list of feats for 20 pages. Start with small, but really doable things, the completion of which will give a feeling of small, but victory, which means satisfaction.

5. Responsibility. When a person has a heavy heart, it is natural for him to step back, to give up all his duties at home and at work. This feeling must be fought. responsibility will not let you lose heart. Just don't force things: if you're not ready to go back to work or school, that's fine. Consider part-time work. If this seems too complicated, consider doing something simple. But you can’t give up - seeing the result of the work done, you will experience satisfaction.

6. Relaxation. Do not think that pleasure or relaxation are things that happen by themselves. The only way to make them happen is to plan for them.

Change of consciousness

Automatic negative thoughts are private sources of anxiety. These thoughts arise randomly when you are faced with a situation that hurts your feelings. They can be connected to each other and all together poison your life.

Example: Your boss has asked you to rewrite the beginning of a project you are working on. Instead of simply rewriting, you begin to “think out” the reasons for such an order, “deepening” the problem: what if I’m not professional enough? What if I get fired? Further along the chain: “I will be left penniless, I will lose my home, my family will hate me, I am a complete loser, why should such a person live in the world” ... That's it. Arrived: within a few seconds you plunge into complete despair.

How to deal with automatic negative thoughts?

7. Think. At first it will be very difficult to catch the beginning of this negative chain. After all, these thoughts arise involuntarily. It will be easier to remember the “bad day” and try to understand in retrospect what happened. How did you go from a good mood in the morning to a disgusting one in the afternoon? What events - and what thoughts - lead you to a depressive state of consciousness?

By recreating what happened, you will understand what kind of automatic thoughts you tend to have and how they arise. Then, over time, you will learn to recognize automatic thoughts at the right time and pull yourself together - stop them before they get out of control.

8. Take a break. When you find that automatic thinking has “turned on”, try to pause, switch, unwind. Help breathing exercises or just a walk in the fresh air. Take a break for a while from the activity in which these thoughts caught you.

9. Use logic. The next time some problem makes you feel terrible, try using it as natural remedy against depression logic. Depression can make you think disgusting things about yourself, often grotesquely exaggerated. Try to imagine this: is it true that no one likes you? Is there any real evidence? True, you can feel yourself as the most stupid and hated being on the planet, but what is the real likelihood of this?

Other Natural Ways to Fight Depression

In addition to creating habits and changing the mind, there are other natural ways to deal with black angst.

10. Reach out to friends and family members. When it's hard at heart, people you trust will help. Talk to them about what is happening to you. Sometimes, realizing that a friend cannot be just your "vest" (it's emotionally very difficult), you will need to put aside your feelings for a while. And this is good - taking care of the emotional health of a loved one, you will take a break from your own experiences. You can just enjoy the time spent together with this person.

11. Find support. In addition to relying on friends and family, you can try joining a support group. Perhaps you will meet people who really understand what you have been through and will help restore mental strength.

12. Check with your doctor before taking supplements. Although great amount supplements are recommended as a remedy for depression, practice suggests that it is simply dangerous to prescribe them to yourself. Always check with your doctor before taking a supplement, especially if you are already on medication.

13. Beware of abuse. Many people trying to cope with depression try to drown it out with alcohol and other substances. It is useless - in a few hours you will feel even worse. If you already have problems with abuse, such as alcohol, don't wait for your depression to end. Ask for help, otherwise these problems together will “handle” you even faster.

14. Do something new. When a person is depressed, he gets into vicious circle, in a rut. Every ordinary day will go according to the scheme: bed, TV, computer. Psychologists believe that in order to naturally get rid of depression, you need to force yourself to do something different, completely new. Go to the museum. Take a book and go read it on a park bench. Sign up for courses foreign language. In general - break this scheme.

15. Don't ignore serious signs of depression. Although self-use natural ways dealing with depression can help, they have their limitations. People have enough resources to help themselves, but these resources are not endless. And when a person is so immersed in depression that he cannot cope with a depressive state on his own, with his own will, when thoughts appear that the world would be better without him, he needs urgent professional help.

In severe cases, suicidal attempts are possible. Therefore, it is not recommended to delay the consultation of a specialist. How to cope with stress and depression should be decided by the doctor.

Causes and provoking factors

To understand how to overcome depression, you first need to understand what can contribute to its occurrence. Since the disorder occurs in people of different financial backgrounds, the lack of money is not always the basis of mental pathology. On the contrary, a stable income or even the absence of the need to go to work often leads to an aggravation of the situation.

The main causes of depression:

  • psycho-emotional shocks, strong feelings;
  • stress - for example, in the workplace, tense relationships with colleagues;
  • past traumatic events - the death of a loved one, a car accident, or a protracted divorce;
  • somatic causes - chronic severe diseases;
  • violation of brain chemistry - a lack of vitamins and nutrients in the foods consumed by a person;
  • violations of metabolic processes in the body - especially in the structures of the brain;
  • side effects from medications - if a person, due to circumstances, is forced to take medications for a long time that adversely affect the activity of the central nervous system.

Sometimes depressive disorders are a direct result of the abuse of alcohol and tobacco products. For women, the provoking factor is abortion or miscarriage.

The help of a doctor will be much more effective after establishing the true circumstances that led to the onset of depression.

Symptoms

Early detection of a person's propensity to depressive states is a guarantee quick release from a mental disorder. For a better understanding of the disease, it is necessary to know about its main clinical manifestations. As a rule, the symptoms and signs of pathology are largely similar in both men and women:

  • mood - more often depression, depression, persists for a long time, as a rule, regardless of the circumstances of a person's life;
  • loss of interest in many activities that previously brought pleasure and satisfaction;
  • fatigue - a breakdown throughout the day, even in the morning;
  • sleep is disturbed, does not refresh, does not replenish the supply of strength and energy;
  • appetite - reduced, up to a complete absence;
  • suicidal thoughts - at first they are episodic, then they become obsessive;
  • inability to concentrate on important things, which affects mental activity;
  • self-esteem is lowered due to constant anxiety and fear.

In school and student years, additional difficulties are observed with the assimilation of the training program, communication with peers.

How to cope with severe depression, it is recommended to learn from a highly qualified specialist, and not from friends and colleagues. Just comparing the symptoms and possible reasons, the psychologist will be able to choose the optimal scheme of drug therapy in combination with psychotraining.

Principles of struggle

It is possible to cope with depression only with an integrated approach to solving the problem. Not only the doctor should help, but also the patient himself - the mood for success, as well as close people and friends - moral support.

The following principles help overcome depression:

  • to realize the problem - despondency and apathy have become constant companions;
  • accept depression as a pathology - a neurosis has formed, and it is necessary to fight it;
  • treatment should be carried out on "all fronts" - taking medications, classes with a psychotherapist, eliminating all predisposing causes and factors.

Depression tends to linger, so seeking specialized medical care should be timely. If acquaintances and friends began to notice oddities in behavior and tactfully indicate that a person should attract attention, such advice should not be ignored.

Psychotherapy with well-chosen drugs returns the patient's life to its usual course - the mood is restored, the ability to work increases, relationships with loved ones are strengthened.

How to cope on your own

On the early stage mental disorder - with a mild form, for example, seasonal depression, you can try to help yourself.

  • daily routine - make it as healthy as possible;
  • sleep - at least 8-9 hours a day in a well-ventilated, calm room;
  • nutrition - proper, fortified, balanced;
  • spend a lot of time outdoors;
  • to do active species sports, visit the pool;
  • reduce the load at work - it is better to take a vacation if possible to recuperate;
  • resume communication with friends - avoid loneliness;
  • listen to your favorite music, read good books.

If, despite all the measures taken, severe oppression and discouragement are not eliminated, then it is worth contacting a specialist. Lost time is difficult to make up later - with a neglected form of depression, suicidal attempts can end in death.

Five steps to freedom

There are a lot of ways to cope with depression and stress on your own, but not all people know about them. Therefore, anxiety and attacks of bad mood become frequent, chronic, habitual. Whereas at an early stage, depression can be defeated without medication at all:

  • take courses mineral complexes- many vitamins and microelements are responsible for the processes and chemical reactions in the brain, the reserves of which must be replenished in a timely manner;
  • introduce various vegetables into the diet, as well as fruits of rich, cheerful, bright colors - for example, bell pepper and tomato, apples and grapes, citrus fruits, which delight the eye and replenish energy reserves in the tissues;
  • daily walk in the fresh air, especially in the summer-autumn period, when there are many sun rays- in some people, depression is the result of vitamin D deficiency, especially in those who live in megacities;
  • television and the Internet - do not watch programs with aggressive topics, bad news;
  • increase motor activity - the opinion of experts is unanimous that with active movements in the body there is an increased production of serotonin, which is also called the “hormone of joy”, for example, you can do dancing or swimming;
  • reconsider the wardrobe - things should be purchased not only fashionable, but also comfortable, with bright color patterns that improve mood.

If health and figure allow, then in the fight against depressive anxiety, you can resort to the help of confectionery desserts - dried dried fruits in chocolate icing, marmalade, cherries in powdered sugar, marshmallows from berries.

Therapy for postpartum depression

Motherhood does not always bring a woman positive emotions. Many experts distinguish postpartum depression as a separate subgroup of mental disorders.

Pregnancy is a huge test for the body of a future mother. In addition to the restructuring of the hormonal background, changes occur in the brain. Moreover, during the period intrauterine growth and the development of the baby, many dangers await him - the fetus can freeze, die, be born with severe anomalies. All this does not contribute to the strengthening of the nervous system of his mother.

First signs mental disorders become noticeable already in the second - third week after childbirth:

  • quick change of mood
  • increased tearfulness or immersion in one's own thoughts;
  • the mother may refuse to breastfeed the baby;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • loss of appetite;
  • in severe cases, suicidal attempts.

It is necessary to prevent such a disorder already at the stage when a woman goes on maternity leave - to distribute responsibilities in the family in advance, when the baby is born, to enlist the support of a person whom the woman fully trusts and who can provide not only physical, but also psychological assistance.

How to deal with depression after childbirth:

  • eat well;
  • more rest, sleep;
  • change wardrobe and hairstyle;
  • walk more in parks, forests;
  • Go to the gym 1-2 times a week - it distracts from worries about the child, helps to restore the figure and peace of mind;
  • drink tea with soothing herbs- chamomile, mint, lemon balm.

However, there are situations when a woman cannot take postpartum leave - a difficult financial situation for single mothers. Then it is not possible to avoid depression, and specialized help is required to solve the problem - classes with a psychotherapist and taking certain medications.

Medical therapy

It is up to the specialist to decide which of the drugs will be most effective in this or that form of mental disorder. Doses and duration of the treatment course directly depend on clinical manifestations pathology, age of the patient, as well as the body's response to medications.

Do not forget about the healing properties herbal preparations- they have many advantages:

  • availability;
  • low cost;
  • no side effects;
  • the possibility of long-term use without negative consequences.

Not only adults, but also teenagers can experience a psychological crisis. During the period of personality formation - 13–18 years, such seemingly understandable things as inattention from outside lead to depression. significant person or misunderstanding on the part of parents, their constant immersion in work.

A teenager is extremely receptive to comments, instructions, and often has low self-esteem. Therefore, it is extremely important that mom or dad always talk in a balanced way with a growing child. You can recognize the formed depression by signs:

  • increased conflicts at school;
  • decrease in grades in subjects;

  • observe correctness in conversation, do not impose your opinion;
  • let the child understand that a strong shoulder and help is always “at hand”;
  • be patient - not all children have the same attitude to the fact that their territory becomes the object of “special attention”, therefore they can react with aggression.

After divorce

Parting with, it would seem, the closest and dearest person - your soul mate, is an extremely difficult psychotraumatic situation. Not many people are able to get out of it with honor, to endure such a test without the help of a doctor.

Many reasons lead to divorce - from the betrayal of a husband or wife, to a mismatch in social status or views on raising children. Nevertheless, the result is the same - the cell of society breaks up, one of the spouses gets depressed.

Fighting mental illness should begin immediately. Experts recommend:

  • a long journey begins with the first step - understand yourself, reconsider your life priorities, realize possible mistakes so as not to repeat them in the future;

  • get a new job where you need to learn a lot of useful information and skills - this will allow you to switch to other problems, then gloomy thoughts about divorce will fade into the background;
  • get a pet, if possible - there will be someone to pour out the reserves of your tenderness and love, with a full return of disinterested feelings.

Girls often drown out the disappointment of divorce with a new image - a change in hairstyle and wardrobe, while men prefer drinking and good fights. Everyone is looking for their own way to cope with mental pain. If depression does not recede, it is better to consult a doctor.

Dealing with Depression After Layoff

Traumatic for the psyche of every person is dismissal from work. Especially when work activity brought a stable financial income. A devastating personal crisis in this case ends with prolonged depression, emotional shock, and panic. This, of course, requires immediate action:

  • take yourself to emotional experiences no more than 2-3 days - then “pull yourself together”, feelings of anger and pain should be pushed into the depths;
  • never blame yourself if all labor duties were performed at a high level and with maximum professionalism;
  • let off steam - draw a portrait of the boss and fix it as a dart target, or make general cleaning in the apartment;
  • immediately start looking for a new job - with even better prospects for career growth, salary, self-improvement;
  • find out all the information about financial support at the former workplace - severance pay, other benefits;
  • lead active life– to attend exhibitions, vernissages, premieres of films, new books, because now there is time for this.

Life after being fired from work, even if more than 10-15 years of hard work was devoted to it, is just a test that can be overcome even with profit for oneself. You can and should consider the problem as an incentive for self-renewal - sign up for advanced training courses, or even learn a new profession.

More ways

Coping with depression is much easier if its signs were identified in a timely manner, and preventive measures were taken to eliminate it. Of course, any psychotherapeutic pathology is eliminated quickly when people know how to deal with it.

  • prolonged inactivity adversely affects the processes inside the soul - try to avoid a passive state, work can be the simplest, for example, your favorite hobby;
  • avoid comparing yourself with other people - low self-esteem will aggravate a depressive disorder, it is better to find the best in yourself and strive for self-improvement;
  • interact with people - understanding friends and relatives will help you survive a depressive period, defeat a depressed mood and gloomy thoughts;
  • rest more - one of the manifestations of depression will be insomnia, but it can also be overcome, for example, with the help of soothing tea with herbs.

What is depression

Depression is, as you know, a mental disorder in which a person feels depressed and oppressed, his mood decreases, fatigue increases and optimism disappears. Due to depression, a person ceases to enjoy life, a pessimistic attitude prevails in him and thinking is disturbed - he begins to see everything in a negative light. I consider depression to be a kind of mental virus that reduces a person’s psychological immunity, as a result of which a person feels tired, depressed, apathetic, and, what is especially scary, loses interest in life. Being in a depressed state, a person refuses to fight for a better life, he simply goes out. In a word, this condition is extremely unpleasant, negative, harmful and dangerous. Being in depression, a person does not live, but suffers. Depression destroys a person's personality.

I've experienced depression in my life, so I know what it's like to be in that state. But I was able to get out of it, I was able to overcome my depression on my own, so you can do it too. How did I deal with depression? Mainly by changing my attitude towards what was causing me depression, as well as by switching my attention to other aspects of life, looking at and thinking about which, I began to enjoy the fact that I was alive. Now I help other people - my clients - to cope with depression, including with the help of a broader outlook on life. I help people see how beautiful our life is and how great it is to live in this wonderful world. I will talk about this in more detail below. In the meantime, let's look at why depression occurs.

Why depression occurs

In short and generally speaking, depression mainly arises due to a discrepancy between the inner world of a person and the outer world. That is, when the inner world of a person ceases to correspond to the outside world, a person falls into depression. This is to say briefly, accurately and generally. But there can be many reasons due to which the external world ceases to correspond to the inner world of a person in his head. It can be about the death or loss of a loved one, about different kind conflicts that constantly arise and force a person to experience severe stress, about the impossibility of a person to satisfy his basic needs, which leads him to dissatisfaction with himself and others, about serious changes in life for which a person is not ready, about various diseases that prevent him from fully enjoying life, about serious internal problems, about experienced violence and about many other things that destroy the comfortable, familiar inner world of a person. As a result, a person falls into depression, life ceases to please him, he loses interest in it.

So, when our attitude to life begins to change for the worse, at the moment when we expect one thing from it, we get something completely different, which we simply are not ready for and which does not please us at all - we can become depressed. A person ceases to see meaning and purpose in life when it turns out to be not what he expected to see it or when it ceases to be what he used to see it. For example, if we lose people close and very dear to us, our life changes dramatically - it gets worse, pain and suffering appear in it, we feel loss, we do not want to put up with reality, because we are uncomfortable in it. When life gives a person pain - he considers it cruel and unfair, and if he feels weak, unable to resist this cruelty and injustice - he becomes depressed. And in general, when our life changes in such a way that we cease to feel needed by someone, or when it simply does not work out the way we want and therefore we do not have the opportunity to realize ourselves, we cannot somehow then to show themselves, depression will inevitably begin to roll over us. She, as it were, seeks to fill the void formed inside our soul, the very void in the place of which our expectations from life were located, which were not justified and which were destroyed by harsh reality. Therefore, often people working on a difficult, uninteresting, harmful work where they have to perform constant, meaningless, mechanistic actions just to earn their living, they lose interest in this very life and begin to degrade. They drink too much, fall into depression, lose their personality, lose their I, and turn into faceless, initiativeless, empty beings inside themselves. So, just as life is very bad from an objective point of view, so is our subjectively negative attitude to it, are the cause of depression in us, in people.

At the same time, a depressed person has very low self-esteem, he is not just disappointed that his picture of the world does not correspond to reality - he is not confident in himself, not confident in his abilities, therefore he is afraid of reality, runs away from it, closes from it, his low self-esteem prevents him from accepting this reality. In this sense, depression is a salvation for a person who is afraid of fighting for a better life. Depression is one way to get along with the inner discomfort that a person has because of his inability to accept reality as it is. And we all once had illusions and dreams, and, perhaps, every person experienced a mild form of depression at least once in his life. But at the same time, some people quickly move away from it, while others sink deeper and deeper into depression. In many ways, we ourselves are to blame for the fact that we do not want to accustom ourselves to living in a world in which many things contradict our internal attitudes, we want to believe in what does not exist or what happens very rarely, instead of preparing for those things that happen more often in our lives. Let's say some people are looking for higher justice based on their understanding of justice and do not find it, and this makes them think that the world is unfair, and if it is unfair, then it is terrible. And people get depressed because they don't want to live in a terrible world that they themselves have formed in their heads and which they are terribly afraid of. Fear prevents them from seeing this world from a different, more attractive side, fear prevents them from seeing themselves as another person who is able to live happily in this world.

Thus, people very often become depressed just because the world was not as perfect as they wanted it to be, and not because it is really terrible. At the same time, they believe that they will not be able to live happily in the real world, that is, in a world that does not correspond to the ideal picture of the world in which they believed. Why can't they? Because they feel their unpreparedness for this world, and, consequently, their weakness and helplessness in front of it. And this feeling of weakness and helplessness, which gives rise to fear of reality in a person, drives him into a depressive state.

How to deal with depression

Well, now let's talk about the main thing - the fight against depression. As I said above, relying primarily on my own experience- a person needs to identify the reason why he fell into depression, that is, to find what does not suit him so much in life that he does not see an opportunity for himself to live with it and then change his attitude to it. Of course, in different situations you need to act differently, sometimes, if possible, you need to change your life itself - quit your job, find a friend or girlfriend, or part with a person who poisons your life, move to another city, to another country, and so on and so forth . In other words, sometimes it is necessary to change reality itself, and not your attitude towards it. But often, you just need to change your attitude to life in order to see more pluses in it, not minuses, in order to see in it those things thanks to which the real world is not only not worse, but even better than that picture of the world that is in your head.

Well, I remember that there was a time when I saw this world in an extremely negative light, it seemed to me unfair, cruel, cynical and in a sense illogical, since my inner picture of the world was based on the ideals and values inspired by me, which in lives are most often found in a highly distorted state or non-existent. In any case, I encountered a reality that in many respects contradicted my ideas about life. That is, I expected from life what I knew about it, and what I knew about it was not what it really is. This discrepancy between the desired and the actual once caused me a strong depression. Therefore, I had to sober up from my illusions and begin to look at life in a new way, in order to live in accordance with its unwritten laws, and not contrary to them. Perhaps it was this life experience that awakened in me a love for psychology, which gave me answers to many painful questions for me.

So pay attention to your ideas about this world, about this life, about people, about yourself, and you will definitely find moments in them that do not coincide with reality. But this discrepancy causes you disappointment in life, and therefore forms the basis of your depression. See what the problem is? It lies in the fact that many people are not internally prepared for life. We do not want to accept reality because we are not ready for it, and since this reality is harsh and uncompromising, from one point of view on it, we lose heart because we feel weak and helpless, unable to get what we need from life . Our depression is our deep resentment for this world, for other people, for ourselves, for everything that does not allow us to accept reality as it is. Depression turns a person out of the struggle for existence, because he believes that he will not be able to cope with the difficulties that have arisen on his way. But this is not so - you can handle everything and reality is not as scary as it seems when you first encounter it. You just need to learn to live according to other, real laws of life, then everything will be fine with you, and life will seem like a fairy tale to you.

Change your attitude to this world, to life, to other people, to yourself - change it by convincing yourself that the reality you observe and feel is somehow wrong, not good. It's not really that bad in this world, it's full of good and interesting things, it's full of opportunities that you can use to achieve anything, and there are a lot of kind and interesting people in it. The main thing for you is changes - you need to strive for them. Changes in life drive people into depression, they also take them out of it. You can change your life - change it, if you can't - change your attitude towards it, or rather, to everything that does not fit into your picture of the world. You can find good even in the worst things, you just need to look. You should have a full interest in life, where you do not have to reject one thing and accept another. Everything has its own meaning, so we must accept everything that life presents us. Look at everything you don't like about your life as clues that can help you move in the right direction towards a better life. Let's say if you didn't have a relationship with a certain person, and because of this you fell into depression, then look at what happened as an obstacle that you need to overcome in order to come to something better. Don't think of being separated from a person as losing that person, think of it as an opportunity to meet someone better. In general, look for meaning in everything, even in things that give you severe pain. He, this meaning, is always there, I assure you. And when you find it, when you realize it, it will become easier for you, the world will change, it will become more interesting and understandable, and depression will recede.

Also pay attention to your needs and if some of them are not properly met, find an opportunity to satisfy them. Human needs must be satisfied, especially if these are the most basic needs, without which a person cannot live a full life or cannot live at all. It is difficult to enjoy life when, for example, you are constantly hungry or thirsty, when you are scared, uncomfortable, or when you do not have a partner for a normal relationship. In general, you yourself understand that what we need - we must have. And I must say that we live today in a time when we are quite able to satisfy many of our basic needs. You just need to strive for this, and not wait until everything comes to you by itself. Sometimes some one unsatisfied need, for example, the need for a normal, fulfilling relationship with the opposite sex, becomes the cause of a prolonged depression. This is a fairly common case. And as soon as a person finds his soul mate, his life is immediately filled with joy and happiness, and there is no trace of depression. So be sure to pay attention to your needs, and if any of them are not satisfied, find ways to satisfy them. If you can't do it yourself, find someone to help you.

The next thing you can and should do to fight depression is to start getting active in different areas of your life. Activity is a good cure for many mental illnesses, including depression. But inaction only exacerbates this disease. Apathy and depression contribute to inaction, which is natural and understandable, but you can act in different ways - you can start doing something that you enjoy doing, at least a little, the main thing is to start doing something. Well, let's say, some women who were abandoned by a beloved man become depressed, lock themselves at home, don't go anywhere, don't communicate with anyone, don't let anyone near them - they are left alone with their resentment, anger, longing, loneliness. Moreover, they even, left alone with themselves, do nothing, they do not occupy their time and attention with some business that would help them think less about the bad, which would switch their attention to themselves. And that just adds to their depression, you know? This kind of inaction increases depression.

Therefore, by closing from the outside world and doing nothing, people create fertile ground for their depression, and it begins to penetrate them deeper and deeper, becoming more massive and heavy. Friends, there is no need to suffer, there is no need to close oneself from the outside world and from other people, and in no case should one be inactive - a person is such a creature that he constantly needs to be busy with something in order to feel alive. And this liveliness is an elixir for depression. Find something to your liking, devote yourself to something, some interesting business, even if not very useful, but interesting. Also, if possible, start talking to interesting people, with those with whom you are pleased to communicate, and there are always such people. Communication for a person is also good medicine from many mental illnesses. In no case do not be afraid of people, do not avoid them, do not hide from them - this is bad for your mental health. On the contrary, reach out to people, only to those people who are friendly towards you, who do not want anything from you, do not ask you for anything, who are simply interested in you as a person, as a person. Communication with such people will fill your soul with joy and happiness. You will feel your need for this world, your importance for other people.

In general, friends - keep yourself busy so as not to concentrate your attention on those who feed your depression. negative thoughts. I remember when I was overcome by depression, I started reading interesting books and thanks to this, as I wrote at the very beginning, I was able to expand my outlook on life, see its different sides, see my situation with different parties after which it became much easier for me. And when helping other people cope with depression, I often asked them to remember some interesting and bright moments in their lives and tell me more about them, then I asked them to fantasize a little about their future, and when they did, I helped them see their life from the most unusual sides, so that it seems to them very interesting and beautiful. And when a person’s mind is immersed in an imaginary picture of life that is close in its content to reality and at the same time absolutely comfortable for a person, he gains faith in a good, bright future, he gains faith in himself and begins to feel joy and love, which dissolves his depression and restores his optimism. So our body and mind must be busy with something, then we will have no time to experience depression, we, as they say, will not be up to it.

I also want to tell you, dear friends, that in no case should you compare yourself with other people if you are unhappy with yourself. You see, comparing yourself to other people is a very fine work. It is certainly necessary, both for an incentive to work on oneself, and for understanding oneself. But when you're depressed, your mind is hit by a virus negative emotions, because of which your judgments about yourself, to put it mildly, will be far from reality, and most often people in such situations completely ignore all their advantages and focus solely on their shortcomings, which they inflate to the size of an elephant. Naturally, because of such a comparison, not in favor of oneself, a person’s already low self-esteem decreases and self-confidence falls even more, from which depression only worsens. Therefore, either do not compare yourself with anyone, adhering to the idea that all people are different, therefore everyone has their own destiny, or if you really want to compare yourself with someone so much that you cannot resist it, then for receiving a positive therapeutic effect compare yourself to someone worse off than you. This is a well-known technique when a person, contemplating someone else's grief or other people's problems, forgets about his own grief, about his own problems, which, against the background of other people's problems, seem like a trifle. This technique is not always appropriate and not always effective, but in situations where it is very difficult for a person to get rid of bad thoughts about himself, he is very helpful. So if you want to compare yourself with someone, then compare yourself with those people, against the background of whose life your life will seem like a fairy tale to you. This will help you look at your life, your problems, yourself, from a more pleasant angle.

Apathy, bad mood can be in quite healthy people. Depressive states are accompanied by motor and mental retardation, anxiety, the cause of which cannot be determined, and insomnia. At the same time, it is difficult for a person to concentrate and make decisions. Bad mood usually goes away in a day or two, and depression can last for months.

True, the state of depression, if it is caused by grief, the loss of a loved one, can also last a long time. But everyday life with her troubles, concern for daily bread, gradually smooths out the pain of loss.

Depressions are exogenous and endogenous origin. The former are formed under the influence external factors: stress, trouble or intoxication of the body, which can be caused by alcohol, drugs. Sometimes depression is a companion of atherosclerosis, hypertension. This condition can also occur in severe inflammatory diseases such as gangrene, when the body is intoxicated with tissue decay products.

Second - endogenous depressions- are caused by mental illness, mainly hereditary, which lead to metabolic disorders.

Under the guise of body diseases

Patients suffering from depression are often bothered by headaches, dizziness, discomfort in the heart and abdomen, joint pain, constipation alternating with diarrhea, menstrual irregularities in women, disappearance sexual attraction etc. Depressions imitate and "mimic" any somatic (bodily) diseases. It is for this reason that doctors have the term "masked depression" - for cases when it "hides" under the guise of a somatic disorder.

If depression has arisen, it is very important to treat it like a disease. For example, in hypertension, the mechanism that regulates arterial pressure, and in depression - a mechanism that regulates mood. We do not hesitate to contact a doctor about hypertension, do not delay a visit to him and depression.

Depending on the results of the examination, the doctor may prescribe antidepressants - drugs that improve mood, or tranquilizers - drugs that neutralize the effects of adverse external factors on the psyche. In a state of depression, the reaction to any negative situation is extremely aggravated, and the slightest offense can drive a person out of himself. With the help of tranquilizers, you can reduce this susceptibility, create a kind of protective field, like that, which creates a plaster cast applied to a broken arm.

The language of numbers

According to doctors, by 2020 the number of people with this diagnosis will exceed the number of cancer and cardiovascular patients.

Depression is already responsible for 60% of suicides.

Not so long ago, the peak of depression was between the ages of 30 and 40, today it has dramatically “younger” and affects people up to 25 years old.

Depression affects people of all ages, including preschool children. Slightly more sick among the elderly. The risk of developing depression among single and divorced people is 2-4 times higher than among married people. At the same time, divorced and single men are at greater risk than divorced and single women.

Women get depression twice as often as men. However, the representatives of the stronger sex are much less likely than women to seek help from specialists, preferring to suppress symptoms with alcohol or go headlong into work.

I will part the clouds with my hands

play an important role in the development of the disease social causes: troubles in the family, at work. If you find yourself in a difficult situation, analyze it and try to simplify it as much as possible.

If you're having trouble at work, say to yourself, “Is work performance really that important to me? In the end, I was born not for labor exploits, but in order to be happy and give happiness to my loved ones. A family conflict has arisen, do not dwell on it, remember what an excellent worker you are, how you are valued in the service.

If you have grief, do not go into it entirely, look around and see that someone needs even more sympathy than you. Take care of him, and you will feel better at heart.

To cope with depression, doctors advise:

  • think about the good;
  • learn to distinguish failure from disaster;
  • rest more often;
  • do sport;
  • change the situation;
  • praise yourself for any success.

Any physical activity helps to cheer up not just because you are distracted from your problems. Muscle tone increases, the brain releases natural substances - endorphins, which in their effect on the body are close to antidepressants and antipsychotics. In addition, playing sports makes you feel better about yourself, and this is very important for the further fight against depression.

You definitely need to work, have a circle of permanent duties, be in a team. Indeed, with depression, there is often a desire to quit everything and lock yourself in four walls. In no case should you succumb to this, otherwise there may be a fear of leaving the house.

With insomnia, if we are talking about shallow depression, you can use herbal infusions: valerian, peony, motherwort. Sometimes their reception is enough for the condition to normalize, sleep improves. You can put a gauze bag filled with crushed valerian roots under the pillow or hang over the bed: their smell has a slight hypnotic effect.

Do not forget about the healing effect of art. Classical music has a beneficial effect on depression.

An interesting conclusion was made by British doctors: university graduates are much less likely to experience depression. Scientists followed the fate of seventeen thousand people born in March 1958. A study commissioned by the British Council for Higher Education showed that men who did not study at institutes were almost three times more likely to be depressed ten years after leaving school than university graduates.

By the way

Those suffering from depression of endogenous origin most often fall asleep easily, but wake up very early (at 3-4 in the morning) and then cannot fall asleep. And those who have depression of an exogenous nature (caused by external circumstances) usually cannot fall asleep for a long time.

If the insomnia is caused by depression, sleeping pills usually do not help, tranquilizers and antidepressants, which a doctor can prescribe, are more effective.

Personal opinion

Albina Dzhanabaeva:

Everyone knows the feeling of depression these days. It seems to me that this state should just be waited out. Although, of course, there are tools that help to cope with it faster. It is best to sit at home, wrap yourself in a blanket and feel protected.
