Daily value of vitamin C for humans. How to avoid getting the flu - The simplest solution

How to avoid getting the flu and what to do if you are already sick? The simplest solution. A technique that can be used even by small children. Recommendations from a professor of medicine.

First video in my VIDEO FINDS on the most pressing topic today - influenza prevention. Very simple and very effective method, who is voiced in the video Sofia Dorinskaya.

Moreover, this is not so much flu prevention as “ ambulance"to the body when we just felt the first symptoms of this infection...

Its value is not only in the simplicity of the method itself, but also in the fact that the method was proposed by a specialist professor from the Soviet period and very clearly explains why it is so effective, it was also tested by Sophia herself on herself and her loved ones with excellent results, what she is talking about and speaks in this video.

How to avoid getting the flu - a simple solution - Video

Here's the method from the video:

  • First 2 days- 2 grams of vitamin C
  • Next 2 days- 1 gram each
  • Last 3 days- 0.5 grams each

Drink during meals, or wash down with jelly, kefir, so as not to spoil the stomach.

Below are comments from Sophia herself and briefly - the method of TREATING the flu if you still get sick (including for children)

(from her video page):

How should children drink, in what dosage? —

FOR CHILDREN: There is no overdose of vitamin C. Reduce the dose by 1.5 - 2 times. A sign of too much vitamin C is diarrhea. If diarrhea begins, reduce the dose of vitamin C. This is a shock regimen; it cannot be used for a long time, as it will cause a deficiency of other vitamins and minerals.

I just wanted to clarify 2g per day - should I drink it at once or divide it into several doses? —

Can be divided into two, but if you drink 2 grams at night, sleep may be disrupted, although it is in the evening and often that a person feels that he is starting to get sick. Then drink a gram. Another one in the morning.

Does Vitamin C help against other viruses? Or just the flu?

Membrane stabilization always helps. But this scheme is given to prevent influenza infection. I’m not sure that vitamin C will help, for example, in preventing AIDS.

What if you also have diarrhea with the flu? can I take vitamin C?

This scheme how to avoid getting the flu. If you are already sick, then this is a different topic.

Sophia provides a link to one very interesting article. I will completely reprint it in my Piggy Bank, because it will be valuable information for any person - WHAT YOU CAN TREAT YOURSELF FOR FLU, including WHAT TO TREAT YOUR CHILD for flu, so that there are no complications from the flu, which the author of the article has had for more than 16 years years of using this technique - not even once!

Part of the article that outlines the method of treating the influenza virus:

“I pulled out a package of Cortexin, which I keep specifically for such cases. I took out a bottle of 10 mg powder. Saline solution it wasn’t there, so I put it in a syringe ordinary boiled water from a teapot, only 1 ml! I diluted the precious powder, drew the resulting solution back into the syringe, and removed the needle to use the syringe instead of a pipette. She came to her son’s room and showed her daughter-in-law how to drip the medicine: one drop in each nostril in the anterior sections of the nose every hour. And spread the droplets over the mucous membrane, pressing on the outside of the nostrils so that they are absorbed and do not leak out.

In the anterior sections of the nose, right where your thumb, no further, are the endings of the lymphatic pathways that lead directly to the brain, bypassing the blood-brain barrier (the barrier between the brain and the blood).

It is through these pathways that influenza infection occurs and that is why the central nervous system is the first to be hit! And this is precisely the path that should be used to defeat the virus if you did not manage to block its path.

If you already know that the epidemic has begun, then lubricate the anterior sections of the nose with any viscous ointment, it will serve as a filter for the virus, it will absolutely still be baby cream, banal Vaseline, or something similar, even cocoa butter, even coconut.

If you realize that you yourself are getting sick or realize that someone close to you is getting sick, immediately, without delay, start dripping Cortexin every hour. Of course, there should be no fat inside the nostrils; it must be washed off.

What is the drug Cortexin?

This is very interesting drug developed by the Institute of Gerontology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences under the leadership of Academician V. Khavinson. Regulatory proteins isolated from the nuclei of nerve cells of the cortex (cerebral cortex of calves) do not have species specificity (cannot damage or cause allergies), but are specific to nerve cells: they restore those damaged by the virus nerve cells and prevent new viruses from entering others.

The effect occurs in the first hours and days; the disease simply ends if treatment is started immediately. I've seen this many times. What the flu affects is the central nervous system! It is almost impossible to think while sick. Therefore, it will be very good if someone close to you can take on this responsibility during this time and think a little for you)))”

G-Lactone 2,3-dehydro-L-gulonic acid.

Description

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. First isolated in 1923-1927. Zilva (S.S. Zilva) from lemon juice.

According to the results of numerous scientific research ascorbic acid is involved in the regulation of redox processes, carbohydrate metabolism, blood clotting, tissue regeneration, in the synthesis steroid hormones, collagen; increases the body's resistance, reduces vascular permeability, which is important for various capillary bleeding, infectious diseases, nasal, uterine and other bleeding. Helps maintain healthy condition skin, participates in immune reactions, improves iron absorption. Has antioxidant properties.

Playing important role at work immune system, helping to increase the body's resistance to viral and bacterial infections.

In diseases accompanied by fever, as well as with increased physical and mental stress, the body's need for vitamin C increases.

Vitamin C is one of the body's defense factors against the effects of stress. Strengthens reparative processes. There are theoretical and experimental prerequisites for the use of vitamin C to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

Sources of ascorbic acid

Significant amount ascorbic acid contained in products plant origin(citrus fruits, leafy green vegetables, melon, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage, black currants, bell pepper, strawberries, tomatoes, apples, apricots, peaches, persimmons, sea buckthorn, rose hips, rowan, baked jacket potatoes). It is present insignificantly in products of animal origin (liver, adrenal glands, kidneys).

Herbs rich in vitamin C: alfalfa, mullein, burdock root, chickweed, eyebright, fennel seed, fenugreek, hops, horsetail, kelp, peppermint, nettle, oats, cayenne pepper, red pepper, parsley, pine needles, yarrow, plantain , raspberry leaf, red clover, skullcap, violet leaves, sorrel.

Remember that few people, and especially children, eat enough fruits and vegetables, which are the main food sources vitamin A. Cooking and storage lead to the destruction of a significant part of vitamin C. In states of stress, exposure unfavorable factors environment(smoking, industrial carcinogens, smog) vitamin C is consumed faster in tissues.

To prevent hypovitaminosis, rose hips are often used. Rose hips differ relatively high content ascorbic acid (not less than 0.2%) and are widely used as a source of vitamin C. Fruits collected during the ripening period and dried are used different types rosehip bushes. They contain, in addition to vitamin C, vitamins A, E, sugars, organic acids, alimentary fiber. Used in the form of infusion, extracts, syrups.

An infusion of rose hips is prepared in the following way: 10 g (1 tablespoon) of fruits are placed in an enamel bowl, pour 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water, cover with a lid and heat in a water bath (in boiling water) for 15 minutes, then cool at room temperature for at least 45 minutes, filter. The remaining raw materials are squeezed out and the volume of the resulting infusion is adjusted boiled water up to 200 ml. Take 1/2 cup 2 times a day after meals. Children are given 1/3 glass per dose. To improve the taste, you can add sugar or fruit syrup to the infusion.

Daily requirement for ascorbic acid

A person’s daily need for vitamin C depends on a number of reasons: age, gender, work performed, physiological state body (pregnancy, breastfeeding, presence of disease), climatic conditions, presence of bad habits.

Illness, stress, fever and exposure toxic substances (cigarette smoke, chemicals) increase the need for vitamin C.

In hot climates and in the Far North, the need for vitamin C increases by 30-50 percent. A young body absorbs vitamin C better than an older one, so in older people the need for vitamin C is slightly increased.

It has been proven that contraception (oral contraceptives) lower the level of vitamin C in the blood and increase daily requirement in him.

The weighted average physiological requirement for the vitamin is 60-100 mg per day.

Table. Norms of physiological need for vitamin C [MP 2.3.1.2432-08]

The body quickly uses up incoming vitamin C. It is advisable to constantly maintain a sufficient supply of vitamin C.

Signs of hypervitaminosis

Vitamin C is generally well tolerated in doses up to 1000 mg/day.

When too large doses diarrhea may develop.

Large doses can cause hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) in people suffering from a lack of the specific enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. Therefore, people with this disorder can take increased doses of vitamin C only under the strict supervision of a doctor.

When using large doses of ascorbic acid, pancreatic function may be impaired with impaired insulin synthesis.

Vitamin C promotes the absorption of iron in the intestines.

Gummies and chewing gum with vitamin C can damage tooth enamel, so you should rinse your mouth or brush your teeth after taking them.

Large doses should not be taken by people with increased coagulability blood, thrombophlebitis and a tendency to thrombosis, as well as diabetes. At long-term use large doses of ascorbic acid may inhibit the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas. During treatment, it is necessary to regularly monitor its functional ability. Due to the stimulating effect of ascorbic acid on the formation of corticosteroid hormones, during treatment with large doses, it is necessary to monitor renal function, blood pressure and the level of hormones in the blood.

Extremely permissible level vitamin C intake for adults is 2000 mg/day ( Guidelines"Norms physiological needs in energy and nutrients For various groups population Russian Federation", МР 2.3.1.2432-08)

Symptoms of hypovitaminosis

According to the head of the laboratory of vitamins and minerals Institute of Nutrition of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences prof. V.B. Spiricheva, results of examinations in different regions Russia, show that the vast majority of preschool and school age lacks what they need normal height and development of vitamins.

The situation is especially unfavorable with vitamin C, the deficiency of which was identified in 80-90% of the children examined.

When examining children in hospitals in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and other cities, vitamin C deficiency is found in 60-70%.

The depth of this deficiency increases in the winter-spring period, however, in many children, an insufficient supply of vitamins persists even in the more favorable summer and autumn months, that is, it is year-round.

But insufficient intake of vitamins significantly reduces the activity of the immune system, increases the frequency and severity of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. According to domestic researchers, a lack of ascorbic acid in schoolchildren halves the ability of leukocytes to destroy pathogenic microbes that have entered the body, resulting in the frequency of acute respiratory diseases increases by 26-40%, and vice versa, taking vitamins significantly reduces the incidence of acute respiratory infections.

Deficiency can be exogenous (due to low content ascorbic acid in food products) and endogenous (due to impaired absorption and digestibility of vitamin C in the human body).

If there is insufficient vitamin intake over a long period of time, hypovitaminosis may develop. Possible signs Vitamin C deficiency:

  • bleeding gums
  • cyanosis of lips, nose, ears, nails, gums
  • swelling of the interdental papillae
  • ease of bruising
  • poor healing wounds
  • lethargy
  • hair loss
  • pale and dry skin
  • irritability
  • joint pain
  • feeling of discomfort
  • hypothermia
  • general weakness

* dietary supplement. NOT A MEDICINE

Man gets different mineral complexes and vitamins from your diet. Each product is rich in one or another important substances. But sometimes it happens that there is a deficiency of vitamins, microelements or macroelements. What to do then? Fortunately, manufacturers medicines create different biologically active additives and useful complexes. If necessary, you can purchase them and replenish the missing substances. Today's article will tell you how and when powdered ascorbic acid is used. Reviews about this substance will also be presented to your attention.

Description of the drug

In powder it is a crumbly substance white interspersed with crystals. It tastes quite sour, but some consumers report the presence of sweet notes. The product is also available in other forms, to which various sweeteners and flavors can be added.

Ascorbic acid is packaged in sachets of 1 or 2.5 grams. Consider the purchased dose when using the drug, this is important. This substance is sold without a special prescription. One pack can contain from 10 to 100 sachets. The cost of one sachet is on average 5 rubles. Ascorbic acid (in powder) has instructions on its packaging. The annotation is also included as a separate sheet in the overall package.

Composition and action

What does the drug “Ascorbic acid” contain? Powder (2.5 grams) includes vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid. Additional substances the manufacturer does not use. The effect of the medication is determined by its constituent component.

Ascorbic acid has an immunomodulatory effect: it increases the body’s resistance to infectious diseases. This vitamin also strengthens the walls of blood vessels and is involved in metabolic processes. Ascorbic acid has an antioxidant and detoxifying effect. The medication can affect the acidity of the environment in the area of administration. The vitamin strengthens bones, teeth and hair, and participates in the formation of intracellular collagen. Since ancient times, ascorbic acid (in powder and other forms) has been used for almost all diseases. It was used in folk medicine, are still used in cosmetology, gynecology, therapy and other branches of medical practice.

What is it prescribed for and in what cases is its use unacceptable?

What do the instructions say about the indications for using the drug “Ascorbic acid” (powder)? According to the annotation, this remedy is prescribed for a lack of vitamin C, hypovitaminosis. It is often found in the following conditions:

  • period active growth The child has;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • not enough proper nutrition or diets;
  • heavy mental stress and overwork;
  • physical training;
  • infectious diseases in acute and chronic form;
  • heavy menstruation in women;
  • in autumn and winter.

It is contraindicated to use the vitamin in any form when hypersensitivity. Also, the remedy is not prescribed if a person suffers diabetes mellitus and has a tendency to thrombosis or thrombophlebitis. Ascorbic acid in powder is not used with confirmed laboratory research. Otherwise, there is a risk of overdose, which is fraught with consequences.

How to take ascorbic acid powder: preparation method

Before using the product, it must be diluted. The proportion is one to one. To prepare the solution, use drinking water. If you doubt its purity, it is better to first boil and cool the liquid to room temperature. Open the package and read the instructions carefully. The abstract describes in detail how ascorbic acid is diluted: place the powder (2.5 grams) in 2.5 liters of water and mix thoroughly until completely dissolved.

The solution should only be taken freshly prepared. It is better to consume it after meals to avoid digestive problems.

Dosage for children and adults

So, you have diluted ascorbic acid powder. Application of the drink requires the use of a measuring cup. This is the only way you can correctly determine the prescribed dose.

  • For the treatment of vitamin deficiency, adults are prescribed 50-100 milliliters up to 5 times a day. Children need to take 50 milliliters 2-3 times a day.
  • For the purpose of prevention, use 50 to 100 milliliters per day for adults, and 50 milliliters once for children.
  • Expectant mothers with a laboratory-confirmed deficiency of vitamin C or during a cold are recommended to take 300 milliliters for one or two weeks. Then you need to switch to using 100 milliliters of the drug per day.

The maximum daily dose must not be exceeded: for adults it is 1 gram of the drug (4 sachets).

Ascorbic acid and other drugs

What else does the instructions for use tell the consumer about the drug “Ascorbic acid”? Powder (2.5 grams) combines well with other medications. It is often prescribed in addition to antiviral compounds and an immunomodulator. Also carried out complex therapy with antibiotics. It is worth remembering the following important information:

  • the effect of the medication is reduced by taking hormonal contraceptives;
  • the drug is excreted in the urine to a greater extent when barbiturates are used;
  • vitamin C improves iron absorption;
  • V high doses affects the acidity of urine, which is fraught with consequences.

additional information

About the drug “Ascorbic acid” (powder 2.5 g), the instructions indicate that the medication should be used with extreme caution in patients with urolithiasis. Due to the fact that vitamin powder enhances the absorption of iron, it can negatively affect the condition of patients with blood diseases.

The manufacturer does not recommend giving the drug to a child under 3 years of age. But the annotation does not stipulate any prohibitions regarding use in pediatrics. Doctors often prescribe vitamin C to children of preschool and school age.

Vitamin C is very important for the body, but if ascorbic acid is taken every day uncontrolled in large doses, it can cause irreparable harm to the body. An overdose of vitamin C for the human body is serious danger. On the one hand, the symptoms of excess can be transitory, but on the other hand, they can be permanent, remaining even after normalization of the level of ascorbic acid in the body.

In order to avoid negative consequences excess, you need to know what the daily requirement of vitamin C is for healthy person and when vitamin C is used in large doses for treatment.

What is the norm and how much it can be taken per day for colds and for their prevention: this largely depends on the form of the drug: tablets, injections or effervescent with glucose. Children love sweet “ascorbic acid” and often take it uncontrollably, which ultimately leads to an overdose of vitamin C.

Hypovitaminosis

To treat hypovitaminosis C, ascorbic acid is used in high concentrations. To achieve therapeutic goals, the dosage and rate of intake per day can be prescribed by a doctor within the range of 500-1500 mg per day.

Number of receptions

The daily intake of vitamin C should be divided into two or three doses. This will allow the required amounts of vitamin to be supplied to the body evenly throughout the day. Otherwise, it is quickly distributed, and the excess is excreted in the urine, so it will be very difficult to cope with hypovitaminosis, and the required norm will be violated.

How to take ascorbic acid effervescent tablets? How much per day can you give your child? This is another form of release this drug. The tablet must be dissolved in a glass of water at room temperature and drunk. There is no need to chew, swallow, or dissolve. IN hot water the vitamin is destroyed. The dose recommended for children is in the description of the drug.

Many people are concerned about the question of how many ascorbic acids can be eaten per day? This depends on the dose of vitamin in one tablet, which can be found on the package. Typically these tablets come in 250, 500 and 1000 mg strengths. The total dose during treatment should not exceed 1500 mg. If there are no manifestations of deficiency, then it is not recommended to eat more than one 250 mg tablet per day.

Application in medicine

Vitamin C is very important in medicine for the prevention and treatment of a number of diseases.

The main functions of vitamin C in the human body:

  • Strengthening vascular wall
  • Normalization of blood clotting processes
  • Protection against free radical oxidation by oxygen
  • Improved immune status
  • Sedation nervous system
  • Gum health
  • Antiatherogenic effect associated with the prevention of lipid peroxidation in low-density lipoproteins
  • Ensuring skin aesthetics
  • Hair elasticity
  • Normal vision function
  • Maintaining your mood
  • Learning ability
  • Normalization of sleep
  • The body's resistance to stress factors.

Ascorbic acid is prescribed in the following cases:

  • Treatment of hypovitaminosis
  • Increased physical activity
  • Increased intellectual activity
  • “Ascorbic acid” for colds is an indispensable remedy
  • Asthenovegetative syndrome
  • The rehabilitation period after illnesses
  • During pregnancy, especially if it is multiple, it is imperative to follow the recommended dosages.

When menstruation is delayed in combination with hormonal therapy ascorbic acid allows you to achieve good results, since it does not restore the sensitivity of receptors to hormones. If your period is late, you need to take vitamin C every day.

Excess

The daily dose of ascorbic acid should not exceed the recommended one. Otherwise, one or another may appear side effects. When daily dose more than 1000 mg, symptoms from the nervous system appear, headache, insomnia, increased neuro-reflex excitability.

If the daily norm is greater than the therapeutic value, the risk of developing ulcerative lesion gastrointestinal tract. This is due to direct irritating effect“ascorbic acid” on the mucous membrane. Clinically, the ulcerogenic (ulcer-forming) effect of ascorbic acid is manifested by the development of secondary peptic ulcer stomach or duodenum, as well as the development of chronic reactive gastritis.

It also has an extremely negative impact on the functioning endocrine system, can lead to inhibition of insulin production by the pancreas, which can lead to increased blood sugar levels. Hyperglycemia (especially during pregnancy and when menstruation is late) negatively affects a person’s well-being. In some cases, a paradoxical reaction to “ascorbic acid” is observed, in which the glucose level in the blood does not increase, but decreases.

Long-term treatment with vitamin C drugs leads to damage to the urinary system. It is very important to follow dosage recommendations and not violate doctor’s orders. On the one hand, the defeat may be associated with the development kidney stone disease due to an increase in the blood level of oxalic acid and its salts (oxalates), on the other hand, direct damage to the renal glomeruli is possible.

Allergy

Vitamin C allergy is another undesirable effect which may develop during treatment vitamin complexes. As a rule, allergies manifest themselves skin symptoms, namely:

  • Redness
  • Blistering in severe cases.

An excess of vitamin C is also reflected in test results. It's about about the following changes:

  • Increased level of platelets in the blood
  • Elevated neutrophil levels
  • Decreased red blood cell count
  • Increased amount of thrombin in the blood
  • Decreased potassium and increased sodium in the body.

Lack against the background of excess

There are two ways to develop ascorbic acid deficiency. Symptoms of this condition do not appear immediately, but after some time, when the deficiency becomes clinically pronounced. The first way is implemented when there is insufficient intake of vitamin C in the body. Most often this is due to the lack of fresh vegetables and fruits in the diet. The second way is a disruption of the processes of ascorbic acid absorption, during which it is destroyed.

Most often this is due to the following pathological processes:

  • Pancreatitis
  • Enteritis
  • Colitis
  • Gallstone disease and others.

The intake of large doses of ascorbic acid into the body for short period time leads to activation of its elimination systems. As a result, this can lead to hypovitaminosis. Clinical signs deficits include the following:

  • Increased bleeding from the gums
  • Losing teeth due to weakened gums
  • Rapid appearance of hematomas (bruises) even against the background of minimal mechanical impact
  • Poor wound healing ability of tissues
  • General weakness
  • Indifference to what is happening
  • Increased hair loss
  • Dry and flaky hair
  • Irritability over small things
  • Frequent colds
  • Joint pain
  • Bad mood
  • Uncomfortable sensations.

Vitamin C is available in fresh vegetables and fruits. Eating greens will help you avoid hypovitaminosis. It is worth remembering that the “ascorbic acid” in these same products is destroyed by temperature, so cooking the dishes is not recommended. Boiling vegetables leads to the destruction of more than 50% of vitamin C. And even short boiling destroys ascorbic acid, disrupting the process of its subsequent absorption.

Overdose

An overdose of ascorbic acid, if consumed in large doses, can manifest itself as the following symptoms:

  • Nausea, which may progress to vomiting
  • Heartburn (especially during pregnancy and in the absence of menstruation)
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Spastic abdominal pain
  • Feeling hot
  • Frequent, painless urination
  • Formation of stones in the urinary tract
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Increased irritability
  • Reduced blood sugar levels.

For pregnant

Ascorbic acid during pregnancy and in the absence of menstruation in high doses can cause irreparable harm. On the one hand, the risk of miscarriage increases, and on the other, the risk of intrauterine mutations increases, and the child may also develop vitamin addiction which will appear after birth (withdrawal syndrome).

But you cannot completely abandon this vitamin. The daily norm for pregnant women is 60 mg. In the optimal dosage, ascorbic acid improves the course of metabolic processes in both mother and child. Diluted in glucose, vitamin C is an excellent remedy in the fight against early toxicosis during pregnancy, reduces the effects of intoxication, and also normalizes metabolism, directing it in the right direction.

Ascorbic acid is an essential substance for many biochemical and physiological processes, occurring in the body during pregnancy, colds, and increased immunity. First of all, it strengthens the vascular wall. With a pronounced deficiency of “ascorbic acid”, scurvy develops, manifested by increased bleeding of gum vessels and tooth loss, and suffers antioxidant protection body, immunity, blood sugar levels are disturbed.

It is extremely important to follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor and not increase the recommended one. daily norm, make sure that children do not use “ascorbic acid” uncontrollably. This will avoid the symptoms of hypervitaminosis and its possible dangerous consequences for the body.

About 20 years ago the book “Vitamin C and Colds” appeared. And it was written in black and white that every person should receive 3-5 grams of this vitamin daily, and if he feels like he has a cold, then 10 grams. These recommendations completely contradicted the official ones developed by the All-Union Ministry of Health, which limited the daily requirement of an adult for vitamin C to 60-1000 mg. Need I say that the book was received, to put it mildly, cautiously? But it was impossible to silence her recommendations, because they belonged to Linus Pauling. He is the only person in the world to be twice awarded Nobel Prize: for outstanding work in chemistry and for outstanding contributions to the struggle for peace. He is an honorary member of the academies of sciences of dozens of countries, including Soviet Union, was awarded the most significant scientific awards, including the Lomonosov Medal. The authoritative New Scientist included him (along with Newton, Darwin, Einstein) among the most outstanding scientists of all times. Linus Pauling was born in Portland, Oregon (USA). Now, he is actively working on problems of molecular biology and continues research on vitamin C and its effects on human health. We bring to the attention of the readers of our magazine Linus Pauling's speech at international conference on Nutrition in Cancer, held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Pauling's recommendations are not “absolute,” that is, the scientist does not insist that everyone take as many vitamins as he himself takes. Linus Pauling understands perfectly well that the dosage of any remedy, including vitamins, largely depends on individual characteristics each person. But he is firmly convinced that the doses of vitamins that are recommended today can and should be sharply increased.

I became interested in vitamins and their effects on human health over 25 years ago. Since then, many studies have been conducted. The main achievement was the recommendation of new doses of vitamin C, which are necessary to maintain good health. It must be said that vitamins have such low toxicity that, taking most of them, you can exceed the moderate doses taken by 1000 times and not cause any harm to yourself. No one has ever died from an overdose of vitamins. True, doctors and nutritionists, thinking in stereotypes, continue to warn that increasing the dose of vitamins can cause serious side effect. However, the fact remains: their words are absolutely not supported by anything.

Vitamin C differs from other vitamins in that it is produced in the body of almost all animals. It’s as if this is not a vitamin for them, since they produce it themselves; Most animal cells contain ascorbic acid and do not require supplementation.

If you examine the food of mice, dogs or cats, you will not find vitamin C in it. They do not need it. The only people who need vitamin C are bat, guinea pig, primates and humans.

So, people, monkeys and Guinea pigs cannot produce vitamin C. Let me ask, how much of this vitamin are produced by those animals that are capable of this? The answer to this question will allow you to determine the required optimal amount of this vitamin. It should be proportional to body weight: small for small animals, large for large animals.

If we bring the dose that animals produce into proportion to the average human weight (about 70 kg), we get about 12 grams of vitamin C daily. This is 200 times more than what doctors recommend today.

I find it very interesting that monkey food contains about 50 times more vitamin C than regular human food. Those who conduct experiments on monkeys know that in order for them to remain in good health, they must be given plenty of vitamin C.

It's surprising that no one has done this to people. Of course, in practice it is impossible to keep many different people under comprehensive observation, vary the doses and forms of vitamin C they take, and observe in which cases even the slightest deterioration in their well-being occurs.

I take 18 grams of vitamin C daily. I prefer to take it as aqueous solution ascorbic acid. In my opinion, in vegetable oil It is better to dissolve vitamin E, and vitamin C should be dissolved in water. If vitamin E intake is insufficient, the deficiency can be compensated for by more vitamin C.

Over the past 25 years, I have worked hard to establish the optimal human dosage of vitamin C and other vitamins. One thing is clear for now: the more vitamin C you take, the better it is for you.

In the British medical journal Lancet I read about a recent experiment involving older people. These people took regular vitamin tablets. The results of the experiment showed that their health improved significantly compared to those who did not take the pills. This shows that even 60 milligrams of vitamin C can improve the health of an elderly person. It seems to me that if you start taking 600 milligrams of vitamin C, your health will become even better. And if you start taking 6000 milligrams, the positive result will exceed all your expectations.

Currently, about 250 articles have been published on the effect of vitamin C on blood lipids, 80 articles on its effect on cholesterol levels, and many others. Interesting results were obtained in experiments studying the effect of vitamin C on blood cholesterol levels.

Researchers have found that people with low level cholesterol vitamin C helps raise cholesterol levels to normal. Those who had normal level(150 -170 milligrams), it did not change, despite taking vitamin C. High cholesterol levels decreased.

Five dozen articles report that vitamin C lowers triglyceride levels. It has also been proven that it increases the amount of lipoproteins in the blood high density(HDL). The higher the level of these proteins, the more reliable the cardiovascular system. HDL collects excess cholesterol in the blood and sends it back to the liver, where it is broken down.

Since the publication of my book Vitamin C and Colds, 38 clinical trials, in which participants received either 1 gram of vitamin C daily or a placebo (a tablet containing no medicines). In 37 cases out of 38, there were significantly fewer colds among those taking vitamin C than among those taking placebo. Vitamin C was given for 6*12 weeks.

Some of the studies were not completed. In one experiment, cold patients were given 3 grams of vitamin C for three days and then stopped. In the end, there was no difference found between those who took vitamin C and those who took placebo. However, if the study's researchers had continued to give the subjects vitamin C, they would have likely seen a disappearance of their cold symptoms.

Now it makes no sense to say that vitamin C has no value in the fight against colds and other diseases. I recommend that everyone take vitamin C. At the first sign of a cold, you should take 1-2 grams of C and then take the same doses every half hour or hour until all symptoms of the disease disappear.

Pauling claims that this amount is sufficient to maintain health and, moreover, is not a financial burden. He believes that a daily dose of vitamins costs no more than a light drink. But the benefits will be incomparably greater.

At the conference in Tulsa, work related to the use of superdoses of vitamin C in the treatment of cancer patients was reported.

In 1974, vitamin C was first used in the treatment of cancer patients. Fifty patients received 10 grams of vitamin C daily, first intravenously and then orally. The results of the experiment are as follows: of the 50 patients who took part in it, 17 did not experience any improvement, 10 had minimal improvement, 11 had tumor growth slow down and in 3 people the tumors stopped growing at all. Subsequently, tumors shrank in another 5 patients. Although the results of the experiment do not look stunning, we must remember that conventional treatments for these cancer patients did not lead to an improvement in their condition.

Four of these fifty patients began to experience severe pain and soon died. During the autopsy, incredible things were discovered: in all four, each tumor (and in some there were many) was bleeding - the tumors were destroyed. This showed that vitamin C began to kill cancer, although apparently at too high a rate.

At least five studies have been conducted since 1974. Three of them confirmed the effectiveness of using vitamin C in the treatment of cancer, and two did not, although the dose in all experiments except one was the same (10 grams). During one of the experiments, a three-gram dose was established (also daily), however, some improvement was noted in these patients. Due to the heterogeneity of results, the use of vitamin C in the treatment of cancer has remained controversial.

However, the story does not end there. One of these five studies deserves special attention. 134 patients with advanced cancer were under the care of Abram Hoffer, MD, a board-certified psychiatrist. Every day he gave them a 12-gram dose of vitamin C, and in addition, other vitamins: niacinamide (1.5-3 grams), vitamin E (800 IU), B-carotene (30,000 IU) and selenium (200-500 micrograms). ). In addition, the treatment program included a B-complex, and changes were made to the diet.

Of the 134 patients, 101 completed the program, while 33 did not decide to do so for various reasons. There were no significant differences in age, gender, weight, health status, nature of illness, etc. between the group who agreed and the group who refused. Result in this experience determined by the most simple method- how long will patients live from the moment they were declared hopeless (that is, from the moment they entered the care of Dr. Hoffer). The 33 who refused lived an average of 5.7 months, and women who had breast, neck, ovarian or uterine cancer and took vitamin C lived an average of 122 months, that is, 21 times longer than those who did not undergo such therapy.

What is the correct way to take additional vitamins and in what cases? Taking such drugs is advisable in following cases: 1. When food consumption is limited, and it doesn’t matter whether you eat little at all or food...
