So that you don't get confused detailed menu by days and dishes scheduled for the first two weeks. A little later there will be a continuation.

And one more thing ... This schedule is not a dogma, everyone chooses for themselves how to fast, the main post is not in the stomach, but in the head.

Therefore, I offer normal lean meals and do not limit myself to just tea or congee all day.

Great Lent 2017 first week:

This is one of the strictest weeks of Lent.

Monday, February 27- complete abstinence from food.

Great Lent is a wide cycle that includes Fortecost and seven days of Holy Week. Its main goal is to fill with virtue and completely eradicate the negative manifestations of the human soul. Strict fasting includes not only proper nutrition for the Orthodox on a weekly basis, but also the unquestioning observance of all sacred commandments, the rejection of entertainment and long sincere prayers to the Almighty. In addition to food restrictions, spiritual abstinence also follows:

  • Rejection love pleasures and couples, and unmarried people;
  • Smoking, alcohol and narcotic substances;
  • Active social life, entertainment, festive festivities, attendance at public events, trips and manifestations of laziness;

Basic dietary rules for the laity in Lent 2017

Of course, a competent and reasonable approach to the selection of food in Lent 2017 contributes not only to the absence of a hunger strike, but also to a more or less varied diet. So, during the fasting period, the following products are allowed:

  • Cereal bread and black bread;
  • Mushrooms different cooking(salted, pickled, boiled, baked without butter);
  • Cereals: rice, buckwheat, oatmeal, barley, wheat, corn;
  • Beans, peas, lentils;

  • Vegetables.
