What classes of feed are there?
Conventionally, dry dog food is divided into 4 classes, taking into account the quality of the ingredients.
- 1 For economy class feed, low quality raw materials are used. These are mainly food waste, offal and soy. No vitamins are added to the composition. To ensure the normal development of their pets, owners will have to additionally introduce multivitamin complexes into their pet’s diet. It is worth noting that economy class feed is not completely absorbed. Allergic reactions, indigestion or upset stomach, diseases of internal organs are possible.
- 2 Premium food also contains low quality ingredients, preservatives, taste and smell enhancers. Compared to economy, the amount of animal proteins has been increased. - 3 Feed super premium class contains high-quality components: poultry or lamb, cereals, eggs, biological additives. The advantage is that the food can be selected for of a certain age pet, lifestyle, physical condition. The disadvantages include the fact that the composition contains a small percentage of products that are not digestible by dogs.
- 4 The highest quality and natural food- This is holistic. Its composition is well selected, contains high quality products that are suitable for human food. This food often contains probiotics, which improve digestion and the general condition of the dog. Manufacturers write the composition in detail, indicating the type of meat, grains or oil. Nutritionists note the highest quality of this food and its benefits for the well-being and development of four-legged pets.
Differences between high quality feed
- The source of protein in good food is high quality meat. In cheap ones, it is extracted from plant derivatives through special processing.
- Refusal of odor, taste, and pigmenting ingredients makes the food more natural.
- No synthetic preservatives such as BHA, BHT and ethoxyquin are used. These carcinogens can cause cancer in animals.
- Contains fruits and vegetables that improve digestion and contain microelements.
- High quality dog foods contain probiotics.
- The higher quality the food, the less it is needed to satiate the dog. This is due to the fact that the calorie content of each gram is higher due to the use of good meat and plant products. If the manufacturer replaces these components with inexpensive soy and other unnecessary ballast components, then the animal receives a large portion of food, fills the stomach, but there is little benefit from this. Compare: according to the packaging labeling, a dog weighing 40 kg should be given 300-350 g good food and 500-550 g of low quality feed.
