Self-awareness and human awakening. How to understand everything

Let everything arise from your awareness. And the miracle of mindfulness is that without saying anything, without doing anything, it simply dissolves everything that is ugly in you, turning it into beauty.

Bhagwan Rajneesh

A conversation about awareness is a conversation about you, because there is only awareness in the world, and it is at the center of the human being. The rest just obscures our visibility. Therefore, in order to return to the center, to understanding our true essence, some effort will be required in the form of exercises aimed at awakening consciousness.

Mindfulness, or awakening consciousness

Mindfulness as awakening consciousness through noticing minimal changes on the physical, emotional and mental plane is practiced in psychology. But the very concept of mindfulness was not an invention of psychological science at all, but is a borrowed concept that originates from the practices of ancient philosophical teachings.

Psychology skillfully applies this concept to create positive changes in the psycho-emotional state of a person and, therefore, uses it as an applied method for correcting the psyche, forgetting that awareness can and in fact is valuable in itself. It is a thing in itself, but not in the sense of its unknowability, but in the fact that it is valuable in itself, regardless of whether we know about its existence or not. She is.

If we accept awareness as an integral fact of existence, then we let it into our lives, enlivening and filling it with meaning. the world. If we do not recognize the concept of awareness, it nevertheless does not cease to exist in reality, but at the same time our life flows in an unconscious way, by inertia. A person is more than a set of physiological and mental functions. He experiences the world through awareness. The more aware he is, the more everything becomes open to him. It’s good that people are increasingly thinking about this and developing their ability to understand through various methods and technician.

Mindfulness techniques and mindfulness practice

There is a whole sea of mindfulness techniques; The main thing is to choose those that suit you best. Most spiritual practices are aimed at developing awareness. We can say that one of the most important goals of practice is the development of maximum awareness, otherwise no further progress along the path of discipleship seems possible.

An adept of a particular school or teaching must learn to be self-aware. This means awareness of the physical, emotional and mental body, that is, the first 3 out of 7 human bodies, which form the physical-energetic essence of a person. Self-awareness implies the following:

  • awareness of your body (movements, condition, temperature, bodily sensations etc.),
  • awareness of emotions (their source, color, development and attenuation, change, etc.),
  • awareness of thoughts (origin, development, transformation, transition from one to another).

Yoga provides a wide field for the practice of mindfulness. You can start at any level to begin to develop awareness. One of simple ways for a beginner it will be the practice of yogic asanas. They create awareness not only of their own physical body, but also psychological state. Every time you perform, your consciousness is focused on those parts of the body that are most occupied in one position or another.

This is essentially one of the mindfulness exercises that psychologists recommend. They say that you need to change your usual rhythm of life or choose other methods of performing those tasks and actions that you usually don’t even pay attention to. Let's say you are drawing right hand, since you are right-handed, you need to try to perform this action with your left hand. The direction of your consciousness will immediately change.

It's the same in yoga. You usually sit on a chair or armchair. You get used to it and don’t focus on it anymore. In order to become aware of the process, take the Vajrasana pose. It seems like nothing complicated, you sit on the floor and feel good, but it’s unusual. From this, consciousness becomes absorbed in this process. Attention is drawn to the posture itself, the position of the arms, legs, and sensations in the knees.

Awareness of the emotional sphere in yoga practice

Emotional awareness is also practiced most naturally in yoga. In the first stages of practice, you will notice your feelings emerging at the moment of performing asanas, without focusing on them. You simply let them be, arise and fade away just as naturally. Eventually you should come to the point where emotions stop playing great importance. These are just emotions - the psychological response of our body to external stimuli. Yes, these are not even emotional impulses, like those prone to romantic feelings people usually describe it as an influx of emotions. This mental changes, closely related to chemical reactions, occurring in the body.

The Golden and Silver Ages of literature have taught us to treat emotional sphere with special reverence, but for our purposes of achieving awareness it is better to immediately put things in their places. Let's leave the description of wonderful or terrifying feelings for writers, and we ourselves will turn to their conscious observation. The mere fact that you begin to be aware of the emergence of your feelings and emotions will reduce their uncontrollable flow and stop uncontrollable reactions.

Yoga effectively works with the emotional body. As for the thought process, there is hardly any practice that can compete. They both focus on Special attention concentration of thought, direction of the thought flow in the right direction. First, they work to make thoughts fully conscious, clearing this process of plaque internal criticism, and at the next stage they move on to stopping the thought process through the practice of deep meditation.

How to Develop Mindfulness: Mindfulness Exercises

To give the reader the opportunity to experiment, let's look at a few exercises that can be used daily. They are not directly related to the practices of spiritual teachings, but will nevertheless prepare you for them if you want to do them in the future.

This list could be supplemented, but with practice you will learn to create exercises for developing awareness in real life. In the next section, we will move on to look in more detail at some of the techniques for developing mindfulness described above.

Exercises to Awaken Awareness Using Attention

The essence of mindfulness training is to dedicate yourself fully to what you are doing in your life. certain moment time, avoid switching attention. If it jumps to another object, return it back and calmly continue to study, observing your actions, the sensations and thoughts that arise in the process. This way you will be practicing conscious thinking at the same time.

Awareness can be directed to both thoughts and movements. This even leads to an expansion of awareness, bringing it to a more high level, while switching attention to another activity or object contradicts the practice of awareness, since attention is scattered, and the key to the practice of awareness lies precisely in the direction of attention. In fact, you are taking your first steps in the practice of meditation, perhaps without even knowing it.

Conscious attention when communicating with an interlocutor is expressed in the fact that you do not evaluate him, as we are usually used to doing, but turn off the critic inside and switch your attention to awareness of what your interlocutor is wearing, how he speaks, how he gestures, or what he is holding in his hand. hands, etc. You need to completely capture his image and at the same time become aware of your thoughts and feelings during the process of observing your interlocutor.

Concentration of attention directed at an object greatly develops awareness, but is perhaps difficult at the beginning of practice precisely because of the simplicity of its implementation. You need to pick up a small object - something that is familiar to you well. It could be keys, watches, mobile phone etc. After that, you begin to examine this object, noticing all its smallest details. Some may find it boring, but manage to concentrate on ordinary thing, you will easily develop not only the ability for deep directed concentration, but also lay an excellent foundation for further practice of directed attention, known in the yogic tradition as dharana.

Conscious vision is very close to the technique described above, but the emphasis in this exercise is slightly shifted. You don't look at one object completely, you choose some aspect to focus on only. For example, while walking down the street, mentally set yourself the task of noticing and concentrating only on the faces of passing people for several minutes, or noticing and finding the shade of a certain color. Try to notice and understand as much as possible more appearances of this shade in the surrounding world.

Developing mindfulness through the practice of mindful movement exercises

By conscious movement we mean a process when your attention is completely focused on performing certain actions in the present. You can walk, fully concentrating on the rhythm of your steps, awareness of the contact of the soles of your shoes with the surface on which you are walking. It's very easy and exciting at the same time. We are usually not aware of this process, so when you direct your attention only to it, you will see how unusual it is.

You can also experiment with becoming aware of the sensations you get from touching objects: how they feel, whether they are warm or cold, how your hand feels; and at the same time observe yourself - how you react to sensations. This practice of training awareness through movement automatically eliminates combining tasks.

If you devote yourself to one thing, then you simply are not able to do one more thing at the same time. Theoretically and even practically this is possible in everyday life. People do this every now and then, but in awareness exercises this would be nonsense, since the very nature of awareness excludes internal rushing and combining things.

State of mindfulness in everyday life

A state of awareness can be cultivated through directing attention to certain aspects of life, as well as through exercises and spiritual practices. IN Everyday life Practicing mindfulness will help you see things differently, make your life more interesting, not to mention that you may suddenly have talents that you never knew you had.

Often the development of awareness is accompanied by a discovery in a person creativity, a craving for creative self-realization appears. This is nothing more than a manifestation of the highest spiritual principle of a person on the physical plane. How else can it manifest itself if we live in a three-dimensional reality. We cannot get by with figurative-mental creation alone; we need to transfer images, embody them in physical world- through art, reading philosophical literature or engaging in spiritual practices.

The principle of awareness, embodied through the art of self-awareness

No matter how surprising it may seem, spiritual practices are very closely intertwined with creativity, since it is aimed at creating oneself: cleansing one’s self-image from everything unnecessary, disidentifying with some general stereotypes, finding and knowing one’s true essence and purpose.

Another way to express this is in the words of Oscar Wilde: “The purpose of life is self-expression. To manifest our essence in its entirety is what we live for. And in our age people have become afraid of themselves.”

We need to stop being afraid to explore. inner essence ourselves, come as close as possible to it, become aware of ourselves and understand that we are awareness itself. We and awareness are one and the same. There is nothing in life except awareness. Everything that exists in the world is its manifestation. Since we are aware, it means that it exists for us. If we were not aware, then this would not have happened for us. On the one hand, this is an amazing conclusion, and yet many ancient spiritual teachings shared this idea. The identity of Brahman with Atman in Vedanta philosophy, the denial of the very existence of the “I” in Advaita, Buddhist dissolution in nirvana - these are concepts based on the principle of awareness.

Ancient thinkers long ago solved the riddle of the meaning of life - it lies in the awareness of everything and everyone, in the multifaceted, absolute comprehension and application of this concept of being. Therefore, we cannot even divide the concept of awareness into theoretical and practical. This is one of those phenomena where the theoretical component can only be understood through the practical aspect.

Be aware of yourself and the whole world will open up to you!

Quite a long time has passed since the release of the film “The Matrix”. It would seem an absurd idea, but it is increasingly cited as an example by scientists trying to explain the picture of the world. No, we are not talking about supercomputers and cryogenic chambers in which he sleeps physical shell person. Rather, we can talk about a big “game” in which everyone plays some role. And this role does not always suit the “actor”. Awareness of your true essence allows you to break out of this vicious circle and begin to truly live. This means awakening - a way out of social anabiosis. We will talk further about how awareness and awakening can be initiated.

What is self-awareness?

Awareness is a complete understanding and acceptance of everything that happens in life, including your actions, thoughts, desires. Why is this necessary? In order to live your life consciously, to fulfill your true purpose. Open your eyes and see your true self life path. What will it give? A feeling of harmony, happiness, completeness of your life. After all, in fact, it doesn’t matter how much money a person has, what house he lives in, or what car he drives to work.

The main thing is that he is happy in his life, that what he has is enough for him. Awareness of yourself, your desires and needs, allows you to understand the direction in which to move, without being scattered on unnecessary things. Awareness and awakening are the key to your real and holistic self.

And if everything is more or less clear with awareness, then what is awakening? Why is so much emphasis placed on the need to do it? Awakening is the moment of transition from ignorance to awareness. It's like opening your eyes after a long sleep, or rather suspended animation. “Social suspended animation” dictated to us by society, its collective mind or traditions. But before we talk about awareness and awakening, let’s touch on the issues of this “sleep” and its “dreams”.

Why does the personality “sleep”?

Many thinkers reproached society for violence against the individual, for suppressing his true essence. Is everything really so clear? Probably not. The fact is that there are objective laws social nature. What is good for one may harm others. How to maintain this balance? Society has not come up with anything other than rules, orders or traditions.

From time to time traditions change, then we talk about fashion. Awareness and Awakening are certainly useful for a particular person, but can be destructive for society, since it becomes more difficult for it to control a free personality. At least when it comes to a technocratic society.

Awareness is more spiritual term, but in this publication we will look at its psychological and social significance. Each person is assigned a specific role before birth. This is called life mission or purpose. Regardless of who he becomes: a creator or a destroyer, a revolutionary or an official. A certain role is embedded in his genes, permeating his spirit and aura.

But do society, as a single mechanism, need free-thinking people? He needs teachers, doctors, police officers, military men. Society needs professions, not individuals. On the one hand, it’s not bad if social role at least slightly coincides with the purpose. But what happens if someone falls into the wrong place? – Depression, stress, loss of strength, sheer negativity, these are just the “first signs” on the path to self-destruction. Waking up becomes the only way to protect yourself. But how can you tell if a person is “asleep?”

How do you know when it’s time to “wake up?”

Signs that a person has lost his way are eloquent enough to go unnoticed.

  • Lack of understanding of life purpose;
  • Regularly comparing yourself to other people;
  • Live in the past, not the present;
  • Lack of development and progress;
  • Passivity in decision making;
  • Failures at work or in your personal life;
  • Chronic fatigue, depression.

If all this can be said about any person, then he needs to start his awakening as quickly as possible, otherwise he will never wake up from the daily routine. To prevent this process from dragging on for many years, it is advisable to become familiar with the basic methods of awakening and awareness.

Effective awakening techniques

Since self-awareness comes only in the process of cognition, awakening is exploratory in nature. You can’t do this without introspection and working with your subconscious. We will not describe overly exotic practices, but will present those that can be done independently, without the help of a spiritual mentor.

  • Ask yourself the right questions;
  • Observe your body, emotions, mind;
  • Accept your real self;
  • News active image life;
  • Get rid of fears and complexes;
  • Practice meditation;
  • Stop chasing material wealth.

These simple recommendations will help you quickly achieve a state of awareness and awakening. Perhaps they will seem very simple to some, but you should not create unnecessary difficulties for yourself. Sometimes obvious things are right under our noses.

The right questions

To begin with, it doesn’t hurt to ask yourself a few guiding questions:

  • Who am I?
  • What am I doing?
  • Why am I doing this?
  • How do I do this?

Answering them will help you understand your life, turn off the effect of automatism, and trigger comprehension. It may not be possible to answer them right away, but the desire to do so will be the first step on the path to awakening.

Observation of the body, emotions, mind

Physical, intellectual and emotional activity are interconnected. By observing his breathing, thoughts, feelings, experiences, a person begins to realize the characteristics of his physiology and psyche. You probably won’t be able to learn how to control them right away. But it will no longer be a meaningless existence.

Accepting your real self

It's worth trying to be honest with yourself. If we feel anger, then do not lie by calling it something else. If we are afraid, then we must have the courage to admit it. Self-awareness is possible only through sincerity. Deception takes a person astray, preventing him from understanding who he really is.

Active lifestyle

Proactivity encourages action, development, and self-analysis. Even a morning jog, elevated to the level of a daily ritual, can awaken our hidden potential. Awareness is an active process. For it to happen, you need to overcome your inertia or passivity.

Getting rid of fears and complexes

Fears and complexes, most often, are alien to the human psyche. They arise in response to pressure from surrounding people: family, campaign, society. The fear of not meeting other people's expectations, worries about one's own inadequacy instantly disappear on a desert island. This means that the reason for them is not in ourselves, but in our reaction to others. Awareness will come much faster if you stop chasing social trends and start living the way you really want.

Meditation

By its nature, meditation is relaxation, immersion in your subconscious. It is absolutely not necessary to take intricate poses or shake the surrounding space with monotonous sounds. It’s enough just to come to a place where you can calm down in order to escape from the daily routine at least for a while. For some it’s fishing, for others it’s a secluded bench in the nearest park, and for others it’s a favorite hammock in the village. When a person is free from extraneous thoughts, then awareness of his true nature is possible.

Stopping the pursuit of material wealth

It's about not about hermit life. No, a person is a product of society, so it is advisable not to fall out of it. It’s just that, in pursuit of money, people very often deviate from the right course, eventually realizing that they could have lived differently. If you do what you love, then there is every chance of becoming a real professional. In this case, a person will always be able to earn money and will not be in poverty. A incorrect choice profession, under the pressure of social trends, will ultimately only lead to depression or disappointment. You have to work to live, and not vice versa.

Today we looked at these important concepts, like awareness and awakening. Without them, you may never find your path in life, ending up working where you would not like, communicating with people you don’t like, or living in someone else’s house. Self-awareness opens up a completely different reality, full of bright colors and joy. Since most people are fast asleep under the power of society, they need to undergo an awakening, due to which their eyes will literally open to the world around them. The next stage will be awareness, which will bring with it a feeling of integrity and harmony, and will help you become yourself.

And what is awareness. And now I will describe several specific techniques that develop awareness and allow you to deal with your emotions in a timely manner in order to understand how to become conscious.

Awareness and concentration

Concentration is, in essence, the control of one’s own attention and the ability to move it within one’s own psyche and body depending on one’s own needs.

Concentration is the basis of almost all mindfulness techniques, but in itself it can already give a lot. To begin with, learn to be aware of your body and concentrate on the processes occurring in it.

You can start with breathing. Just keep your attention on your own breathing, whatever it is. Then learn to keep your attention on your own muscles, first - individually, then - on large groups muscles (the whole back, all the legs, etc.), then on the whole body at the same time.

It will be good if you learn not only to be aware, but also to relax your muscles. To do this, you can first tense the muscle, and then “release” the tension, and feel, while continuing to keep your attention on what is happening, the process of relaxation.

You can also train your senses. Concentrate on the visual pictures you see, on individual subjects, on a specific color or movement (for example, water or fire, or tree branches). Natural objects They are very suitable for such cases, but if you don’t have them, you can use any others.

In a similar way, you can train your hearing by concentrating on some individual sounds, recognizing individual details in the overall sound of the world around you, or focusing your attention on the entire sound background at the same time.

And in exactly the same way you can do with studying your ability to touch, smell, and taste. The more processes your attention span is able to occupy simultaneously - the deeper your awareness.

What we direct our attention to is much more amenable to control by consciousness. Agree, while you weren’t paying attention to your breathing, you were unlikely to be able to control it. But as soon as breathing comes into the center of your attention, you immediately discover the ability to influence the depth and pace of breathing.

Anchoring

This technique is needed in order to:

  • To consolidate the constant presence of an observer in you, teach him to stay awake all the time, accompany you through life at every moment, help you decide what to do with specific emotions, how to specifically experience them and how to react to life situations
  • Destroy any autopilots, help stop automatic reactions, which are grievances, anger, feelings of insignificance, fears, anxieties, reactions of avoidance, withdrawal, etc.

Actually, first you need to select an anchor. It can be very different, only one thing is important - that it catches your eye as often as possible.
This could be a picture on the refrigerator and on the desktop (it is best if it is a simple and understandable sign), an item that you carry on your arm, a piece of clothing or accessories that is always with you.

I will give examples of such anchors. I often offered my clients an image as an anchor. road sign"brick". It is bright, noticeable, its meaning is clear to everyone - “stop, you can’t come here.” In this case, “stop, don’t react on autopilot, give yourself time to become aware of yourself.”

Or, for example, a bracelet, a ring, a watch. They are on your hand, your hands are often in your field of vision, your eyes will often bump into your anchor, and it, in turn, will remind you of the same thing - “don’t forget to ask yourself the right questions, don’t react automatically.”

Some put a similar meaning in the mug from which they constantly drink (moreover, they bought two identical ones for themselves - at home and at work, so that the anchor would always work), someone used a bag keychain for this purpose...

In general, there is complete scope for your creative imagination. There is only one condition - you must see this item as often as possible. And it should be filled with meaning for you: remind you that you can become aware at this very moment.

How to achieve this, how to “link” an item to this reminder? Sometimes simple enough indoor installation: “every time I look at this object, I will remember awareness, the presence internal observer" By remembering it several times, the “object-state” connection will be reinforced.

But to be sure, better procedure do it as deeply and thoroughly as possible. Sit in comfortable position. Try feel your whole body(see point on concentration).

Then, when the sensation of the whole body can be more or less retained in consciousness, add to this the perception of colors in the room or place where you are. Then - sounds, smells. Try to sit and perceive. Look at the anchor object.

  • What do I feel and sense? How does my body experience this?
  • When did it start?
  • What was happening in my life when this feeling began?
  • What expectations did I have from this reality and why?
  • For what reason do I believe that only meeting these expectations will make me happy ?
  • What do I really want from the situation/myself/other?
  • Can I see something positive in what is happening, what can it teach me?
  • Why do I need this experience, what should I understand now about myself and others?

All this does not mean that you will “let go” of any situation. Perhaps you will come to the conclusion that your partner is humiliating you, and for a long time and systematically. And what is in your interests is to let him understand this and firmly defend your boundaries.

But if this was preceded by an awareness of everything that happened to you around the situation with your partner, it is unlikely that your words and actions will be chaotic and unconvincing. More often, on the contrary, momentary emotions are unconvincing, seasoned with a lack of understanding of what is really happening.

This is why children’s “insults” are funny to us: from the height of an adult, we can clearly see how a banal conflict of expectations and reality (I wanted a toy, this one now, but my parents didn’t have the money - they didn’t buy it) turns into literally suffering with a roar and screams.

We understand well how much a child still needs to understand in order to be able to balance his “wants” with different processes in the world, which he will have to take into account in the future. But at the same time, most adults sometimes behave in exactly the same way. Only the “wants” are more complicated and the suffering is much more acute.

And therefore, often the conflicts of two adult “children” lead nowhere - they only hurt each other, but do not ask themselves questions leading to understanding, do not know what this conflict should teach them and are not able to isolate the essence of their wishes for peace.

The picture changes when at least one of them tries to become conscious.

Awareness and acceptance of reality is the path from the past to the present and future, building it the way you would like, clear knowledge of what and how to do, clarity in the decisions made.

The question is that even when we understand and know what needs to be realized and accepted, we don’t know how to do it. I hope this article will help you with this!

AWARENESS

Awareness is an act of consciousness based on the generalization of one’s own mental processes leading to mastery of them.

The following laws apply to awareness:

Claparède's Law (Law of Awareness): The more we use any attitude, the less we are aware of it. The more a relation is used automatically, the more difficult it is to realize it.

Law of shift or displacement: to realize any operation means to transfer it from the plane of action to the plane of language, that is, to recreate it in the imagination so that it can be expressed in words.

The most general characteristics consciousness of mental processes is as follows:
1) a person can realize what he perceives, what he thinks about, what he is attentive to, what emotion he experiences;
2) a person can realize what exactly he perceives, remembers, thinks, feels.

Awareness of mental processes does not mean either that a person is always aware of the contents of his perception, thinking, memory, attention, or that he is always aware of himself in this process. It's just about what a person can realize myself in this process.

“If you want to understand the beauty of a bird, a fly, a leaf or a person, you must direct your whole attention to it. This will be awareness. And you can only direct your full attention to something when you are interested. This means that when you really want to understand something, you give your whole mind and heart to figuring it out."
J. Krishnamurti

“Human consciousness begins with awareness of one’s existence. a wise man seeks meaning, aspiring - awareness. When we become aware of our knowledge, we can pass it on to others. Knowledge that comes without consistent experience has no practical application.”
Vl. Khoroshin

Awareness and contact with reality. Observe the internal and external world, perceive events detachedly, do not mix with them, do not comment or evaluate them, do not try to change anything, just observe. If you can simply observe, you will see that a process of disintegration is taking place within you.
Anthony de Mello "Awareness"

So, the awareness algorithm:

1. Show interest in certain situations that happen to you and bother you.
2. Observation of thoughts, feelings, sensations and actions that are the result of certain feelings and thoughts. Non-judgmental observation.
3. Experience what is happening holistically and directly, rather than overthinking what is happening.
4. Describe your thoughts, feelings, actions. Also non-judgmental, just like facts.
5. Awareness involves action. In reflection, you make a choice. And with awareness, a choice is not made - the only right decision for you immediately arises. If you are aware of something, then there is no longer a question of how and what to do, awareness already includes action. Those. At this stage you should have decisions about what and how to do next.
6. Awareness – consistency between internal and external.

The state of the observer, I repeat, without evaluation and without judgment, when we can see how a thought appears, how it evokes certain feelings, and how the action follows. A person “sees” (realizes on all three levels - mental, physical and emotional) his patterns of behavior, stereotypical reactions, what first becomes a habit, and then a character. Observes from the side what is happening in inner world thoughts, feelings and sensations, behind all the ideas that arise in the mind. To be self-aware is to see your personality as it is. And this alone begins to change your personality. Because when you observe, you can already change what you observe.

Parable:
The most famous Baghdad thief came to the master:
- You are so enlightened, you know a lot and I have heard a lot about you. Do you know who I am?
- Yes, I know. “You are a Baghdad thief,” the master answered.
- Yes, I am one of the best thieves, no one is better than me. I'm going to rob the Shah soon. It's not good, but I'll do it anyway. What can you say to this?
- Okay, do it, I don't mind. But only when you do this, be aware of what you are doing, be aware of everything, everything you are doing,” said the master.
“Okay,” said the thief and left.
After some time, the thief comes to the master again and says:
- Well, you are a cunning one! I couldn't steal. When I began to realize everything, I couldn’t steal!

ADOPTION

Below excerpt taken from the book “Doing Honor to Yourself”, wonderful book about self-esteem, written by Nathaniel Brandon. Read carefully what he writes.

“Of all the judgments we have made in life, none is as important as the one that has passed into ourselves, since that judgment touches the very core of our existence.

To honor yourself means to want to think independently, to live according to your own mind and to have the courage to have your own perceptions and comprehensions, your own opinion.

To honor ourselves is to want to know not only what we think, but also what we feel, what we want, what we need, what we dream about, what we suffer from, what we are afraid of or what makes us angry. - and accept our right to feel such feelings. An attitude opposite to this means denial, alienation from oneself, suppression - self-denial, refusal of obligations to oneself.

To honor ourselves means to carefully maintain an attitude of benevolence towards ourselves - to accept ourselves as we are, without self-suppression and self-reproach, without any attacks on the truth of our being, attacks aimed at deceiving either ourselves or someone else.

To honor yourself means to live not by lies, to speak and act based on your deep convictions and feelings.

To honor ourselves means to refuse to accept undeserved guilt and to do everything in our power to correct such guilt if we happen to earn it.

Honoring ourselves means being committed to our right to live, which begins with recognizing that our lives do not belong to others and that we are not here on earth to live up to anyone else's expectations. For many people, this is a huge responsibility.

To honor yourself means to treat yours with love. own life, love our responsibilities for spiritual growth and that we should experience joy, love the process of discovering and learning our pure human capabilities. So we can already begin to understand that to honor ourselves is to practice selfishness in the highest, noblest and least understood sense of the word. And this, I will argue, requires enormous independence, courage and integrity."9

We do not evaluate an event or a fact, do not label it good-bad, or good-bad, but simply internally describe reality, state the facts.

Acceptance is characterized by calm internal state, clarity of view of the world, of yourself and of the people around you. It makes it possible to see and understand the essence of phenomena and people more deeply (to see the motives behind words and actions and, approaching this from a position of acceptance, choose the best behavioral strategy).

The opposite of the state of acceptance will be the state of alienation, which is characterized by inner restlessness, often neuroses, constant struggle with yourself, with others, with a world that is obviously hostile. Because if there is no basic acceptance, there is basic non-acceptance and, as a result, a deeply negative view of the world.

Bad, good - these are labels of past experience. The past cannot be changed, accept it as a fact, but you can influence what will happen in the future. One of the techniques that helps you accept the past is the experience modification technique, which I describe in detail in my workshops.

Possible consequences:

The world will become a source of knowledge, strength, help, joy; you will finally get down to business and not painful soul-searching. A lot will be released vital energy, which you will want to direct in a creative direction, because Everything is fine with you, but the field around you is not plowed.
