Very often, waking dreams visit both children and adults. It is difficult to cope with your own fantasies in moments of relaxation, but they can be used for your own purposes, to strengthen confidence in the future.

What is a waking dream?

Most often, waking dreams occur in people in the most relaxed state. This is a version of dreams in which a person sees himself at the pinnacle of success, dreams of falling in love or, for example, of incredible travels. Dreams have been present in a person’s life since childhood, but then they seem incredibly real. In particular, in such fantasies, children invent friends and fictional characters with whom they can play. Most often, this is necessary for children who are lonely by nature and find it difficult to find friends.

In any case, with the onset of adulthood, the dream, as if in reality, does not disappear anywhere and does not disappear. Moreover, such dreams continue to be a part of a person’s life. Dreams of incredible travels and career achievements most often occur to a person in moments of maximum relaxation or in seconds of incredible fatigue, when one just wants to close his eyes. Dreams help to recharge with positive energy, and most often, inspire a person with confidence in his own abilities.

By the way, dreams are very similar to normal, nighttime dreams. In night fantasies, a person also often sees what he thinks about most and what he really desires. The only exception is that mystical characters often appear in a person’s dreams, and the dreams themselves are of a more sacred nature. How to use waking dreams?

What a waking dream is has already been explained, and now all that remains is to find out how to use such a dream. To begin with, a person must understand that a waking dream is the embodiment of his secret desires and needs, and this needs to be listened to. In dreams, very often everything is maximally exaggerated and multiplied. That is why fantasies do not need to be taken literally, and it is better to interpret them as ordinary dreams.

For example, if a person sees in a dream how he achieves the position of director in his company, it means that he really wants it. It is worth remembering how a person managed to achieve his dream in his dreams, and begin to apply it in life. Often, waking dreams show a person that even the most contradictory situations and dreams can find a real embodiment. That is why there is no need to be shy about dreaming and daydreaming.

It's great if positive emotions will not disappear over time. You need to be inspired by such dreams, you need to listen to them in order to achieve success in the future. Many psychologists refuse to comment on the influence of waking dreams, but it does exist. With the help of such dreams, you can achieve success in real life and make your own world a little better and brighter.

Using waking dreams is something every person should do. There is no need to be afraid of your own dreams, because often such dreams help you achieve your goal and gain new meaning life, not similar to the previous existence.

Any hallucinations associated with sleep are parasomnia. Parasomnias are unwanted events that occur during sleep. In addition to hallucinations, these include grinding teeth, sleepwalking, sleep-talking, etc. Hallucinations in sleep are imaginary, but very realistic events. Most of them are visual, but there are also sound (even musical), gustatory, olfactory, tactile and even associated with the sensation of movement. Hallucinations can be confused with both dreams and reality.

Hypnagogic hallucinations are visual illusions that usually appear in the evening before falling asleep, when the eyes are already closed. Often this period is called half-sleep and is located between wakefulness and sleep. Therefore, they are closer to the type of pseudohallucinations than to true hallucinations, since they do not have a connection with the real situation. The phenomenon is also typical for healthy people. This condition occurs infrequently and lasts from several seconds to several minutes. This condition can also occur when you don’t get enough sleep. How long does a person need to stay awake for hallucinations to appear? Sometimes they begin to appear on the second or third day without sleep.

Otherwise, this type of hallucination is called Lhermitte syndrome. In common parlance you can also find such a definition as a waking dream. There is no clear definition of the concept of waking sleep, and often outsiders understand by it completely different phenomena: hallucinations that occur during sleep paralysis, and hypnagogic hallucinations before falling asleep or after waking up, as well as lucid dreaming and even dreams. However, it is more correct to use the concept of waking sleep specifically in relation to hypnogagic hallucinations. This type of hallucination was first described in 1922 by the French neurologist J. J. Lhermitte.

The phenomenon can be observed in both children and adults. Some adults see them from time to time throughout their lives. Sleep researchers believe that everyone has hallucinated at least once in their life before falling asleep. During the period of remission, there may be no visions for several months, and sometimes even years. Visions are vivid, so often a person who has experienced this state can remember this all his life.

Visual hallucinations

Hypnogagic hallucinations can be multiple, single, scene-like, and sometimes kaleidoscopic. Visual images (most often these are moving, reduced-sized people and animals) are characterized by mobility, kaleidoscopicity, and quickly change their shape, size, and location in space. Those suffering from hallucinations act as contemplatives who lack a sense of fear. A person retains a critical attitude towards visible images. A person can simultaneously perceive the real world along with dream-like experiences mixed with it (for example, visual images echo real voices or noises breaking into a dream).

In ordinary dreams, the person himself is a participant in the events taking place, while this is not typical for hypnagogic hallucinations. It’s as if a person is watching a movie that the brain is showing to him. The person does not tense up, but calmly reacts to what is happening. This is an uncharacteristic state of sleep. Besides all this, a person is interested in what he sees. The observed pictures during such visions are quite definite, detailed, and there is no blur in them.

Auditory

Simultaneously or separately with visual hallucinations, auditory hallucinations may also occur when falling asleep. A person can hear voices before going to sleep, uttering individual words or coherent phrases filled with semantic content, individual tones, short musical passages. Phrases are heard clearly and loudly.

Hypnagogic hallucinations in healthy people are physiological and functional. Such night voices in the head arise against the background of the existing external stimulus and is perceived together with it, without merging, as happens with illusions. For example, in the sound of a ticking clock or the sound of rain, the patient can hear the voices of people. Dominant hallucinations indicate the presence of mental trauma, which caused parosomnia. For example, someone who has lost a loved one hears their voice.

If auditory hallucinations begin to communicate with the sleeping person, talk to him, demand an answer - this may be a symptom of a serious illness and you need to consult a doctor. Hypnagogic hallucinations can appear during acute intoxication and infectious psychoses, as well as in schizophrenia in a state of exacerbation. In this case, dark, frightening figures or their individual fragments are often seen: eyes or heads, for example.

Less common, but also occurring, is such a hallucination during awakening. If hallucinations occur while going to sleep, they are called hypnagogic, if during awakening, they are called hypnopompic. However, in the specialized literature the term common to both conditions is usually used - hypnagogic hallucinations.

Who experiences hypnagogic hallucinations?

Hallucinations before falling asleep are quite common. More often they occur in puberty and among young people. For most, the frequency of episodes decreases as they get older. However, in older people, hypnagogic hallucinations may appear along with other manifestations of insomnia. Hallucinations at night are common in patients suffering from narcolepsy. The following factors are the most common causes of their occurrence:

taking narcotic and toxic drugs;
drinking alcohol;
anxiety and stress;
insomnia;
emotional disturbances.

The syndrome occurs as a result of irritation of the reticular formation of the midbrain. Sometimes short-term hallucinations at night can occur in patients with epilepsy. Hallucinations often occur due to lack of sleep. Sometimes migraine attacks can cause Lhermitte syndrome. Also, hypnagogic hallucinations are observed with local damage to the brain stem in the area of the third ventricle and cerebral peduncles as a result of hemorrhage, tumor, and with superior basilar syndrome. Also, the pathology may have an inflammatory-intoxicating etiology.

Hypnagogic hallucinations in children

Particular attention should be paid if you see that your child is experiencing hallucinations before bedtime. This can be evidenced by his story that yesterday before going to bed he saw his aunt, who said something or the dog came. The child’s psyche is still very immature, so it can produce such pictures if the child is emotionally overloaded after an active day. This is usually evidence of stress or emotional overstrain. For example, such hallucinations or waking dreams are known when, having experienced the death and funeral of a grandfather or grandmother, a child sees them before going to bed.

Since hypnagogic hallucinations can frighten a child, the child’s psyche should be protected from the influence of stress and emotional overstrain. Otherwise, sleep pathologies can lead to insomnia, bedwetting, and the child asking to go to bed with his parents at night.

What to do with Lhermitte syndrome

If hypnagogic hallucinations do not cause any discomfort and occur rarely, then you can simply forget about them. If they call increased anxiety interrupt your sleep, after which you experience daytime sleepiness, you should consult a doctor to establish a routine and get recommendations for restoring healthy sleep.

What you can do on your own for recovery and relaxation:

go to bed at the same time;
before going to bed, avoid strong emotional impressions;
do not abuse alcohol and smoking, avoid drugs;
before going to bed, take a walk in the fresh air;
do not overload the stomach before bedtime;
arrange it correctly sleeping area: ventilate the room before going to bed, remove all light irritants, buy a comfortable mattress and orthopedic pillow.

What is a waking dream

The phenomenon of a waking dream is well described by Jack London in the novel Straitjacket. Agronomy professor Darrel Standing, sentenced to death, is subjected to regular torture in a straitjacket, with the help of which he eventually learns to travel through time and the world in a transformation between a sleepy state and reality.

There are many practitioners who try to practice this state. A waking dream is the line between reality and sleep, when the body seems to be already asleep, but the brain still gives all the signals characteristic of wakefulness. The state in a dream and in reality differs in that in a dream the brain is already completely asleep. How to induce a waking dream?

To avoid headaches after waking up, you need to learn some safety rules:

do not set an alarm clock with a sharp sound;
It’s better to be woken up by soft, gradually increasing volume music or a friend with a light touch;
for the first time try to fall into a waking sleep for 2 minutes and then gradually increase the time of waking sleep to half an hour;
Try not to let anything bother you during this time.

How to induce a waking dream

Turn on a night light so you don't get disoriented when you wake up.
Take a lying position on the floor. You can lay foam or a blanket. You need to lie on your back, stretch out your arms, and close your eyes.
Breathe exactly 3 seconds per inhalation and exhalation. Slowly increase the length of your inhalation/exhalation until you feel dizzy and see black spots before your eyes.
Try not to think about anything, imagine a peaceful landscape, the chirping of birds, the sound of a waterfall.
Do not move under any circumstances. At some point you will feel immersed in a state between sleep and reality.
Now open your eyes. From this point on, have your observer friend begin counting the time.
Now you will find yourself in the unreal space of your subconscious, your mind will wander in the labyrinths of the subconscious.
After waking up, you don’t need to get up suddenly. Adapt a little to reality.

This is a very interesting and unusual experiment.

Flying in dreams and in reality

Can a person control his dreams, using sleep as a fantasy land to realize his plans and fantasies?..

Each of us spends about a third of our lives in a state of sleep, so is such a colossal loss of time really necessary for us only to restore physical and emotional strength?!..

At all times, scientists from different countries have paid attention to dreams Special attention. The ancient Egyptians called sleep the little death.

Indeed, the sleeper resembles a dead person, many physiological processes slow down, but nevertheless he continues his life, transported from his usual real world to the ghostly world of images, the world created by his imagination.

Despite its illusory nature, a dream significantly expands a person’s capabilities. In our dreams we become the owners of strange and, at times, simply unique qualities.

Almost everyone experienced an amazing feeling of flight, saw the earth rushing beneath them, and soared in the clouds like birds. Others could walk through walls, or create cities and fairy-tale kingdoms just by thinking about it.

But the main advantage of internal space (our dreams) is its ability to very accurately copy the real world in which we live. I’m talking about the ability to maintain tactile sensitivity in dreams, the ability to experience events emotionally (it’s not uncommon for people to cry or laugh while sleeping), to communicate with dream characters, to enter into physical contact, feel pain, cold, heat and other sensations. How this happens, because the work of the main sense organs is dulled or completely turned off during sleep, the processes in the body slow down their rhythmic activity. The flow of information into the brain from the outside world is reduced to a minimum. We see, hear and feel during dreams. Where do these irritants come from?..

Some modern researchers of consciousness talk about the existence of a special sense organ. In parapsychological literature it is called the field of consciousness. It acts as a repository of images (and, accordingly, all our knowledge), is responsible for life support (the so-called seventh sense, the ability to foresee danger, feel a look in the back, feel anxiety for your loved ones when they are in trouble and much more), as well as the exchange of information with the external environment (including other fields of consciousness). That is why people united by common interests, love ties, or simply long-term friendship and communication are able to guess the thoughts of their interlocutor or predict his behavior in advance; such people resonate with each other, i.e., their fields of consciousness are partially united.

In simple terms, the field of consciousness is a certain energetic substance that surrounds our brain, into which all our thoughts-images are packaged; it is capable of communicating with other similar fields of consciousness (telepathy).

What are the true reasons for the occurrence of dreams? Analysis of the literature makes it possible to identify five such reasons:

Physical irritation:

The desire and inability to make any movement, change the position of the body and body members;

Irritation of the senses.

Repressed desires: the dream arises as a result of weakening of the controlling will.

Images from the subconscious (fields of consciousness):

Vivid impressions in interpretive processing with the active involvement of associative imagination;

Images from the subconscious unfold during FMS (phases of slow-wave sleep).

Lucid dreams: controlled dreams that unfold during REM sleep. Dreams under human control.

Astral-vital dreams (travelling): associated with astral exits, but without special training of consciousness cannot be reproduced after awakening.

The first three reasons are clear and acceptable to us, but then we come across a new word - lucid dreams. What is this?

In modern parapsychology, the science of the extraordinary capabilities of a person and ways of revealing them, special attention is paid to this reason. Parapsychologists claim that you can not only control dreams, but also awaken with their help the hidden reserves of our psyche, including creative abilities.

Here, for example, is one of these exercises:... Before falling asleep, we set the intention that our dreams will be lucid (controlled). Then we consciously observe our falling asleep, monitor this process and carefully record it... We now need to imagine one of the places where we would like to go. This could be a desired vacation spot, the experience of meeting someone, or a beautiful tree on the side of a mountain. When we fall asleep, these pictures continue to stand before our spiritual gaze as real as in reality. Over time, we will learn to enter a dream, as it were, and contemplate it in a clear consciousness... (Parapsychology, volume 2, p. 614).

What can give us control over our dreams?

First of all, there is unlimited space for our imagination and creativity. Many of you may have noticed that in dreams your individual qualities appear in a completely different way. You can compose music, communicate with people you have never seen before, perform unimaginable physical exercises, change the objects around you with the power of thought, and much more.

Another possibility is creativity while dreaming! Before going to sleep, you program your consciousness to solve a problem, and the process of solving it continues in the dream. It should be noted that many famous discoveries were made in this way: Descartes conceived the main provisions of his works on methodology, mathematics and physics in three separate dreams during one night in 1619, Mendeleev discovered the periodic table of elements during sleep...

In the central mountain range of the Malacca Peninsula lives a primitive tribe called the Temyar; its members have developed to an amazing degree the ability to solve their life problems in their sleep... Members of the tribe from childhood learn to achieve control over their thoughts during sleep and even induce certain dreams. Using dreams programmed through preliminary meditation, they are able to get rid of many types of fears and phobias - and as a result social conflicts among these people they have practically become obsolete... (Samuel Dunkell, Sleeping Postures, p. 60).

There is an original exercise that allows you to gain control over your thoughts and learn to travel in the world of dreams. During one of the seminars that I had the opportunity to conduct, we tested it in practice and got amazing results: almost all the students of the lecture course noted that their dreams had acquired an orderly character (usually a dream represents fragmentary, unrelated scenes), three began draw magnificent pictures, although they had not previously shown artistic abilities, their character became more balanced and after sleep a feeling of vigor appeared!

What did we do?

First of all, we chose a picture to observe - it was a magnificent panel depicting a beautiful pond surrounded by a forest, above the tops of the trees of which the towers of an ancient castle could be seen.

I invited the listeners to carefully examine the panel and try to remember it. The task was this: close your eyes, reproduce before your inner gaze a picture of a pond, a forest and a castle. Walk through the forest and approach the castle, examine it, go inside and try to find the central hall...

Then I turned on quiet, calm music, dimmed the lights and the session began!..

The results were stunning: almost all listeners described the castle in the same way, with matching details: dark corridors with high vaulted ceilings, from which wisps of dust and cobwebs hung, ancient tapestries, worn by time, gloomy bats, unhappy with the appearance of uninvited guests and - the main feast a room with a long wooden table covered with broken plaster...

Later we conducted several more similar sessions with this panel: we looked for treasure, traveled along the bottom of the lake, tried to find the inhabitants of the castle. At the end of our seminar, I held a final session, for which we prepared for two weeks: we held a costume ball in the castle, having come up with costumes in advance. The task was complicated by the fact that the listeners had to choose a couple from our group and try to spot friends (again from our group) dancing at the ball!..

There are other methods, but they have the same goal - to teach a person to control his imaginative imagination, make it work under the control of conscious will, and also teach the brain to think equally clearly in sleep and in reality.

But the most amazing thing is that dreams are of a material nature, i.e., we can record them if we have the appropriate equipment. This primarily applies to the research of Perm psychiatrist Gennady Pavlovich Krokhalev, who is working on the problem of recording human thoughts on photographic film.

His works, known throughout the world, irrefutably prove the presence of special radiation coming from a person’s eyes and carrying information about his imaginative thinking.

The experiments of another Perm scientist, my good friend Vadim Iosifovich Tishkevich, generally border on fantasy: he claims that we can create special energy phantoms. For example, we focus our attention on the image of a ball, projecting it into space a meter in front of us. After some time, an energy phantom of the ball is formed in this place, clearly registered by the equipment!.. In this way, we approach the understanding of such phenomena as telepathy, telekinesis and damage (the main problem of modern society). But this is a topic for another article...

Undoubtedly, the topic of dreams is endless, as is the literature on this topic. We just need to open our eyes wider and think about how many interesting years of life we have already lost. But it's never too late to start...

A dream in which I felt everything

I came to visit my friend, but the house was completely different from what it really is, I can’t even remember where I could see it so that I could dream about it. So, the action took place in the late spring-summer period, it was hot. In a dream, I met a young man of very pleasant appearance, whom I had never met before in real life. I can’t remember under what circumstances I met him, but I remember his name - Nikita. It was love at first sight, both for me and for him, all the time I was there I spent with him, I felt all his hugs and kisses in real time. But the more memorable moment that has been haunting me all day is how we were lying in our arms and talking to him, he said the following words: “where were you before” (well, meaning that he was in love with me, and was looking for someone just like me) These words stuck in my memory, when I think about this dream, I feel uneasy, then in the dream I leave him without telling him anything, but soon I return back, probably with a gap of 2 weeks, I come and see my parents and him, they apparently already met somehow, everything is fine with him again and then I don’t remember what happened. Perhaps I woke up.

P.S. I don’t know if this matters, but the house where I came to stay was located next to the house where this mysterious Nikita lived.

All day I’ve been racking my brains about this, what kind of dream it was and what it means, and why it was not like an ordinary one, but as if in reality with all the feelings and experiences.

I see how my boyfriend and I are making love. After I woke up, I was struck by the fact that I was on top - in reality such a position is not typical for me. I dream that I wake up, open my eyes, and lie on the sofa. It’s still night, I turn my head - my husband is sleeping next to me, I dream that the situation at home is the same as in reality. There was a chair under the iconostasis, and while he was carrying me, the chair changed to a sofa, only folded. They very carefully placed me on it. Then I literally forced myself to wake up and woke up just like in a dream - I open my eyes, the back of the sofa is in front of my eyes, I also turn my head, my husband is sleeping. All the same. It became creepy. The feeling is a little painful when you force yourself to wake up.

Beautiful garden. Calmly. Green. I feel like I'm inside a garden. The brother of the deceased person dear to me appears and emotionally says that he cannot wait any longer and madly wants to marry me. While gesticulating. I don’t quite understand what is happening and why he is offering this to me, I ask him what is happening. I don't give an answer. There remains a feeling of incomprehensibility. And warmth.

The dream ends. And then I dream about the next one. I walk into a store and a couple comes towards me - a girl and a guy. I definitely notice them, but I don't recognize anyone I know. Having already passed, I hear the girl’s voice and recognize in her my classmate, an old good friend. She has gained a little weight. But she looks very good and glows with happiness. Announces that she is pregnant! On cheerful notes the dream is interrupted.

A dream in reality

I’m dreaming about my apartment.. I’m alone, it’s evening.. I hear the presence of someone intangible... Very scary.. Cracking behind the wall, rumbling, footsteps.. I call the young man in tears, in hysterics, I’ll come right away, quickly get ready so that escape from home.
