Chernobrivtsy, or marigolds, is a perennial plant that is available in numerous cultivated forms and strains, often difficult to tell apart. This difficulty is exacerbated by the fact that most of them have double flowers, almost always yellow, with five different petals or filled with smaller petals. And most of them have pinnate leaves. All types of Chernobrivtsy exude a strong, distinct, pungent smell - sometimes "medicinal". Flowers are distributed throughout the world as ornamental plants. They were first explored in North and South America.

Chernobrivtsy is a perennial herb that is available in numerous cultivated forms and strains and is often difficult to tell apart.

Marigolds have been used in folk medicine since ancient times. Their powerful psychoactive effects were first identified by the Aztecs. They used the plant in ritual incense. On the Mexican holiday of All Saints' Day (November 1), marigolds are a traditional flower laid out in abundance in the form of offerings on numerous altars that commemorate the lives of those who have passed to the afterlife. They are commonly known as "flowers of the dead".

In Mexican folk art, skulls and skeletons made of wood and papier-mâché are often decorated with these decorative flowers. Mexican Indians have attributed magical properties to them since pre-Columbian times. The Maya used this flower as an addition to their holy balchia drink. It is said that modern Mayan shamans still use this flower in shamanistic rituals. The Aztecs sprinkled the powder of the plant on the faces of prisoners of war, who were sacrificed by burning, so that they would be sedated during the test. Even today, many Mexican Indians burn dried marigold herb as incense on household altars and during public ceremonies.

All types of Chernobrivtsy exude a strong, distinct, pungent smell - sometimes "medicinal"

Indians from the Mexican Sierra Madre smoke the dried herb alone or mix it with equal parts of tobacco. This mixture has ceremonial significance. It is reported to be smoked during a rite of passage in sexual shamanic rituals. The leaves and flowers are smoked in corn husk cigarettes, often combined with peyote consumption.

The combination of smoking this plant along with drinking peyote, corn beer, or cactus liquor is said to produce very active dynamic hallucinations.

Bundles of dried grass are placed as offerings at temples, administrative buildings and sacred sites in Mexico. Chernobrivtsy are used in combination with other herbs in Mexican witchcraft, in ceremonial healing rites known as "cleansing", dispelling diseases. Depictions of flowers with five petals are common in pre-Columbian art. There is an artifact of a cylindrical polychrome pottery vessel from the Classic Maya period, which depicts a yellow five-petalled flower. Its shape and color resemble this plant. Marigold flowers are used as flower offerings in many Hindu ceremonies in Nepal and India. They have significant ritual significance, since they are given as an offering to the goddess Bhagwati and the god Shiva.

Marigolds have been used in folk medicine since ancient times.

The healing properties of marigolds are amazing. The herb can be boiled or ground to make a paste. Bundles of fresh or dry flowering herbs are sold in Mexican markets. Marigolds have many uses: as an aromatic herb, flavoring spice in cooking corn dishes, and as a medicine. The infusion of one bunch with water can be poured into 2-3 cups of aromatic tea. This dose is enough to create deep stimulating and aphrodisiac effects.

The benefits of marigolds

The Aztecs used all types of marigold for medicinal purposes, for example, in a tea made from an infusion of fresh herbage. Such tea was included in the complex treatment of hiccups and diarrhea. The extract of the plant has been specifically used to treat people struck by lightning. In modern times, fresh herbs are made into teas to treat stomach pains and cramps. In Mexico, marigolds are thought to promote lactation and have also been added to bath water to relieve symptoms of rheumatism. In Argentina, a decoction of the leaves is used for coughs, and it is also well known as an insect repellent and applied topically to the skin in this case. The plant was used during Spanish colonial times to treat clinical insanity. In India, the juice from the freshly squeezed leaves of the plant is used to treat eczema. Marigolds have a strong effect on the body, their effect can be both beneficial and harmful. But in general, they are very beneficial for health.

All varieties of this plant contain potentially aromatic essential oils. Tagetes lucida (Chernobrivtsy in Russian) contain a substance that is an extremely powerful non-alkaloid mind-altering compound and one of the most powerful hallucinogens found in nature. The plant contains thiophene compounds and benzofurans. No alkaloids have been isolated from the herb of this plant, but the leaf extract has been found to act as a CNS depressant in rats in laboratory studies. The consumption of flowers while smoking in traditional ceremonial processions is believed to induce a trance-like state. But in some cases, 2 g of dried plant matter can cause clarity of consciousness, a sense of well-being, a feeling of warmth in the body for 2-3 hours.

Therapeutic use

One of the health benefits of tagethis patula is that it is used to treat minor burns in the form of an ointment or tincture. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, the plant is used in the treatment of allergic reactions, eczema, and bruising. The health benefits of the oil include the treatment of plantar lesions on the feet.

The marigold plant has another benefit - it helps get rid of oily skin. Fresh flowers should be soaked in warm water and then applied to the skin at least once a day and left for 10 minutes before rinsing. Their use is very popular due to the high content of antioxidants.

These antioxidants are effective in combating the damage that free radicals can cause. They are usually by-products of environmental factors such as pollution, or cigarette smoke, or even normal bodily functions.

In addition, marigolds are effective against colon cancer cells, leukemia and melanoma.

One of the medicinal uses of Chernobrivtsi is that the flowers promote the growth of both new blood vessels and new tissues, and are used to heal wounds such as burns, scrapes, and skin irritations. When consumed internally, the plant is known to help against digestive inflammation, which manifests itself in the form of duodenal or stomach ulcers. It is known that calendula is effective against painful ulcers in the mouth and stomach, against colitis. Marigolds are effective in this aspect because they tend to stimulate the lymphatic system and thereby minimize swelling and cleanse the body of toxins that can contribute to ulcers.

These flowers are used in the form of an ointment for women who suffer from breast cancer to minimize dermatitis. It is usually caused by chemotherapy. Petals are used in chintz baths, as they are effective in treating bladder infections, vaginal infections, for healing stitches after the birth of a child, and in treating hemorrhoids. One of the health benefits of the plant is that it is very effective in treating scabies and warts. But before using marigolds, medicinal properties and contraindications must be properly studied.
