Exacerbation of diseases after osteopathic sessions. After manual therapy, it got worse, and everything hurts? what to do if you feel dizzy

I decided to turn to an osteopath because I suffered for a long time with my back and neck. For several years, my lower back periodically ached (although I am only 27) and there were unpleasant, painful sensations in my neck. such as they happen when he brings his finger together and wants to crackle, only constantly, to the point that, like a madman, I constantly twisted my neck, tilted it to the side, tugged, just to bring down this disgusting sensation at least for a while.

I was sure that these were the consequences of an injury (I fell a few years ago, slipping, I’ll sleep), but X-rays and MRI did not show anything obvious. At first I started going to massages and tried different types, but this brought only temporary relief, and after a couple of days everything started all over again.

Fortunately, my friend got a job in a private medical clinic and, having learned a lot of useful information from the head physician, recommended me to contact a certain osteopathic doctor, who was highly praised and recommended and to whom the doctors turn themselves. The doctor looked at me and immediately said that the problem is not in the neck, but in the pelvis, which has been shifted down and sideways for a long time, and this affects the entire spine, including pulling the neck, and with my jerks of the head I try to compensate for this pressure. He promised that we would put the pelvis and the entire spine in place, but I would have to work on my own: do exercises and devote a lot of time to stretching so that the muscles on the side of the body that I have twisted and clamped begin to stretch.

************************************************* process treatment ********************************************************

I liked the doctor, the first session was quite successful: I immediately felt lightness in my back, relaxation of the body. After the second session, I suddenly realized that I was finally keeping my back straight and it was happening on its own! I don’t control myself and unbend my twisted shoulders with difficulty as before, I just walk with a straight back and for me it has become a natural body position! After the third session, the doctor told me that for the time being I didn’t need to go to him anymore, then the body should “work” itself, he set the direction for the bones to recover, and now it’s my job to do exercises and bring everything back to normal. I liked that he didn't trick me into attending sessions and shake extra money! But... I still wanted to go to the 4th session (after the session, an unreal lightness, relaxation appears in the body, and the head is freed from heavy thoughts).

Now I nevertheless took a break, as the doctor advised, and for now I am doing it myself at home, doing the exercises that he showed me (they are simple, relaxed). I feel very well. You need to understand that in a couple of sessions, if you yourself do not make efforts, you will not be cured of all diseases. But you will definitely notice the changes and understand that the very quality of your life has improved.

IS THERE A PLACE FOR PAIN?

During the treatment there are no unpleasant sensations, no pain! The doctor does not break anything, does not press anywhere sharply, joints and bones do not crackle! Everything is very soft and gentle. My doctor focuses not only on physical treatment, but also on psychological - getting rid of bad thoughts, calming down, bringing the state of mind back to normal.

****************************************** What exactly has changed in me?******* ************************************

I stopped feeling my body, daily sensations like “it pulls here, it hurts here, my back is tired, my lower back is heavy”, I just don’t feel anything and it’s great!

I maintain my posture without effort and look much better than before when I walked like a yoke

I wake up easily in the morning, there is no this painful feeling that I hate the morning, the weather, work and the whole world around, I just wake up, have breakfast and go to work in a good mood (not only the doctor helped me with this, but also vitamin D3, oh I'll write a review a little later)

It became easier for me to walk in heels, my legs do not hurt like before

Disgusting sensations in the neck are almost gone and very rarely bother me

Clogged muscles are gone, the body is very "light"

- THE MOST AMAZING- this is that my body has changed, I began to lose weight a little, the tummy, which was round and noticeable below, began to tighten; the doctor told me that it would be so, because due to the fact that my pelvis twisted, my gallbladder turned out to be compressed, which could not function normally and problems in its work slowed down the metabolism (I don’t know if this is true on actually, but I really started to lose weight)

I definitely recommend everyone and everyone to visit an osteopath and undergo a course of treatment. This is not very long and, in my case, inexpensive (2500 per session - in St. Petersburg this is a very small price), but this is a real way to change life for the better!

At one time, I wrote a post on the topic of scoliosis, because. I myself have this problem. And now he lived: problems began from inaction - and I had to deal with them.

The post ends with me starting my search for an osteopath; and I really found it, it took me almost 3 weeks. But search is search; and the decision to trust this person, because. I can’t imagine anything about osteopathy - it will be more difficult. And I made up my mind, risked myself and my health, in the hope of gaining greater health, which would help me live with my illness, at least without discomfort.

While reading, be patient; I find it difficult to piece together such a large number of personal records. The experiment lasted 1 year. If you need the coordinates of my specialist, I will issue them only upon request.

To start it is worth mentioning once again a few trifles of osteopathy, incl. money question.

1. Osteopathy comes from St. Petersburg, so for me, ideally, there would be a specialist who graduated from a St. Petersburg university or an osteopathic academy.

2. The second point is the price. 1.5-2 years ago there was a sharp jump in prices, almost 2 times; probably due to the lack of specialists and the development of this area. Offers in Moscow come from 3 to 9 thousand for one (I emphasize, one) session.

3. Speculation. Yes, there are charlatans. I read an example about how a man smeared his hands with some kind of ointment; and walking through the parts of the body - it caused warming up after a while. The effect gave the patient the feeling that the hands of the "osteopath" really work. It is worth noting this point: the time spent on the session is different for everyone; but the average is 1.5 hours. This helps to weed out scammers who conduct sessions in a very short time. Including it is not necessary to be conducted on "trainings of osteopathy"; it has been taught for at least 4 years and not every person is given it at all. There is also a website that is a unified national register of osteopaths: http://enro.ru/search.php?city=%ED%CF%D3%CB%D7%C1.

So, I found a specialist. The cost of the session is 3500 rubles, the duration is an hour, the frequency is once every 2 weeks, then once a month, then once every 1.5; and so on for six months.

Visit #1. First there was a consultation with a preliminary examination. I was about to lay out money, but the session turned out to be free, the general picture of my condition was outlined.

The theory has been heard that my curvature of the cervical spine over time is a possible consequence of hitting my head in my teens; I then coolly got off the bike. The second option, regarding the entire trunk, is the wrong balance of forces (not the amount of strength, but its balance) in the muscular corset, that is, my own muscles provoked a curvature.

The general description of the organism from the point of view of osteopathy is that it constantly reacts to the stimuli surrounding it. That my scoliosis might be a reaction to that fall. And the transformation of scoliosis into S-shaped in humans is also the body's reaction to C-shaped scoliosis as an attempt at self-compensation.

The theory of how osteopathy works was heard. An osteopath is a tool that "listens" to the body and "gives him advice." The body itself decides whether to follow the advice or not. The therapeutic effect is observed some time after the session itself. And if the body believes that the "advice" is wrong, then even if this "advice" is forced to be applied (remove the scapula all the way to the back, for example), then the body itself will return it to its place after a while.
Osteopathy studies the whole organism as a whole, without localizing the source of the problem. For example, I hit my pelvis a few years ago, forgot about it; and after a while my head starts to hurt, and various pills do not help. Conclusion: you need to go through the whole body, find the problem, and then eventually work with the sacral region so that the head goes away.

The time of the viewing session (it may be right to make it free) is the time when you can feel the capabilities of the person who will treat you. How will you understand it? Only on sensations, another is not given. While I lay this hour, I felt the impact of the hands on my body. For example, while touching the shoulders - my stomach suspiciously warmed up; then the sensations shifted and stopped at the appendix (hands on the shoulders so far!). The appendix twitched, tingled, pulled. Then it turned out that after the operation they could physically hook me with appendicitis; Here he is "probing" in this way. I emphasize that there is no massage, only touching or pressing on certain areas. I also felt dizzy at times.

After leaving - I did not feel any changes after the viewing session.

Visit #2. OK. I made up my mind. I came to the session, my heart was in my heels, but there was interest. The session was over, I also felt dizzy and other effects, and then I came home ... and then rushed not easy... I ate. Because I really wanted there is. Once I ate dinner, an hour later I wanted more. Two ate in an hour yet. Tried to sleep - figs to you, four had a snack, ... In short, I fell asleep at 2 am. Empty half the fridge, damn it.

The next day, the hunger was weaker, but I could not deny myself a lunch trip to "mu-mu": the stomach scoffed just like that. It took about 5 minutes to stab in the kidney, the appendix sipped, the liver stung for 10 minutes. There was a one-time pressure jump, the ears were blocked. On the third day, the liver ached for about 10 minutes. In the following days, there was a normal regimen, without incident.

In general, the consequences of the first session were as follows. A weak mental anorexia, which had been with me for 4 years, left me; Well, I didn't want to eat that's all. As a result, until the next session, I regularly ate 3 times a day. Nothing happened to the back.

Visit #3. Correctly they told me that "the husk is just being removed from you now." Because this session differed in the amplitude of sensations. The specialization of this session was on the internal organs, I found out about this only at the end of it. It was felt mainly on the abdominal organs, as if they were twisted in a circle. It is worth emphasizing that there was no appreciable pain during any of the sessions; pulled, tingled, heated, twisted - but no more. Arriving home, I was ready: a full refrigerator, but ... there was no such strong hunger.

It's been 3 days since visiting #3. It is very strange to realize this, but I did not experience any special sensations; the right leg ached for 2 hours (what ached - I did not understand).

Visit #4.He was devoted entirely to the axis of the spine and the thoracic region. During the session, I began to choke: as if 4 high-quality system units were placed on my chest. Released quickly. For some reason, today she said the statement that I do not have an eighth tooth. Indeed, I do not have the right "eight". After the session, a clear instruction was given: go home, go to bed and rest all day.

Damn, what happened the next day ... I slept for 11.5 hours. I woke up feeling like I either had sex all night or went too far with the gym. And hunger, again hunger! In general, I am writing this paragraph feeling tired... AND HUNGRY!!!

On the 2nd day, in the evening, I felt that my cervical region had fallen forward somewhat. That is, worsening the situation. Excited, and strongly; almost freaked out. Why I did not call her - I did not understand; but I was lucky: after 2 days everything was restored.

On the 3rd day, the lower back was pulled; on the 4th there was a terrible smell from the mouth, I got sick of chewing gum. Of the ambiguities "plus or minus" - on the 6th day I felt that I was getting sick, but after 2 hours all the sensations disappeared, incl. perspiration. Either I was so weak that I almost fell ill; or so strong that the infection does not take. The pluses include the fact that I carried a very heavy object with my weight of 55 kg - 2 floors up the stairs, and at the same time did not earn a hernia. :-D

Day twenty-four. I accidentally noticed that the stretch when leaning forward increased by 4-5 cm.

Day 26 But for 2 days.

Visit #5. Since it was December 30, it was decided not to overload the body; and at first I thought that nothing would happen. And it happened.

When I walked up the steps on foot, I put my right foot on my toe to get up; I thought for several years that my legs were of different lengths. Even though I was told otherwise. And they turned out to be right. During visit No. 5, the osteopath worked on some joint for me; and on January 20th, I accidentally noticed: I rise symmetrically, like everyone else.

Time to take stock. They are ambiguous; Well, at least I could figure out the numbers.

Basic goals:
- remove pain and discomfort in the neck - done;
- remove the protruding blade - not done.

Additional goals:
- remove a significant displacement of the pelvis forward when walking - partially completed.

Other results:
- anorexia disappeared;
- developed the right leg, began to walk normally;
- Improving immunity (had been ill with the flu for 2 days, everyone is now lying around, but I don’t care).
(I add the phrase a few months later, during the next "epidemic"): worth noting, I'm starting to like the fact that next to me everyone is coughing and blowing their nose - and I don't even sneeze. :)

Expenses:
- 3500 x 5 = 17500 rubles (osteopath sessions);
- 350 x 5 = 1750 rubles (Computer Optical Diagnostics in the Dikul clinic - COD, useless thing like the clinic itself; and if it is done by different specialists, then so much the worse. I am looking for other, objective methods to check the results. Why did I go to them? Because nowhere else is the CODE done).
- 2 x 5 = 10 hours (road, session time).

Therefore, it is difficult to talk about the results; they are, some even surprised (not quite what I came for). I'm going through 5 more sessions, and then we'll see. There is already some kind of trust in a person.

Visit #6. As the osteopath said, almost all patients, when they feel changes in the body, go through discomfort of varying degrees. If you do not feel anything, then there was no point in the actions in the current session, your body did not respond to them.

About the diary in general: I have already described enough detail about each session, so I turn to a brief enumeration of unusual knowledge or sensations in this area.

Visit #10. I am finishing my diary. To the results achieved, one can add the elimination of a significant displacement of the pelvis forward when walking. And I still don't get sick, even if I cough; and before fell down stably every 4 months.

Now I go to an osteopath once every 2 months to maintain tone; I now have a personal discount (here it is, my charm). All this time we tried to remove the protruding shoulder blade, but she stubbornly returned back a week after the session. Well, it means that the body needs it; and I put up with this cosmetic defect.

Final costs.
Rubles: targeted - 3500 x 10 + 3000 x 2 = 41000 rubles, erroneous 350 x 5 = 1750 rubles.
Time: 2 x 10 = 20 hours.
Nothing to regret. I took a risk and won.

*************

It has been almost 5 years since the last session. Gradually, the body began to return back what was won back during the sessions. From the achievements remained getting rid of mild anorexia (although still thin) and the absence of pain in the neck (although the discomfort returned).

Patients who have severe back pain often seek help from specialists whose practice does not accept the use of drugs.

A chiropractor treats people with the help of a mechanical effect on the musculoskeletal system and internal organs.

Often, patients do not quite understand how the disease can be cured without drugs, but some specialists succeed.

A wary attitude towards osteopaths leads to the fact that the slightest deterioration in well-being - and often happens after several sessions - is perceived as unskilled work.

Why does the back hurt after manual therapy, if the experts themselves promise miraculous healing after just a few sessions?

How it works

Manual therapy techniques are based on the use of a complex of shock, soft tissue and other types of effects on the body.

With the help of such a complex, it is possible to restore the motor functions of the spine, improve the patient's condition.

It allows you to restore joint mobility, restore muscle tone, eliminate spasms, and return bones to their places. At the same time, the system of internal organs is restored, various pathologies are cured.

An individual approach is selected for each patient. The complex consists of a kind of back massage. But this is not exactly a massage, but measures aimed at:

  • restoration of blood flow;
  • improved metabolism;
  • getting rid of the manifestations of the disease.

It has been proven that such treatment is much more effective than medication if it is performed by a qualified professional.

The manual uses sparing techniques for influencing tissues, while they are aimed at quick recovery. So why does my back hurt after manual therapy?

Possible causes of pain

After the first visit to the chiropractor, pain begins to appear after 1-2 hours. This is due to the beginning of the displacement of bones, joints and internal organs in the right direction.

Even with the restoration of only the spine, changes occur in the entire skeleton. Such feelings of severe discomfort are a sure sign that the recovery process has been launched, and the body has begun to fight the pathology.

Back pain after manual therapy may be accompanied by fever and fever. In such cases, osteopaths themselves advise taking painkillers that will help improve the condition.

In order to consolidate the effect, you should unquestioningly follow the recommendations of the doctor, perform the prescribed exercises, adhere to the restrictions. If you follow all the recommendations, then soon the condition will improve.

Why did it get worse

Can my back hurt even more after several manual therapy sessions? Yes, since the peak of the pain syndrome falls on the 3-5th day. Ligaments that support organs or bones must work in a new way, in an unfamiliar position.

The muscles will have to work hard to keep the spine and other systems in a new place. This process causes pain until the body gets used to it.

It should take some time to recover. After 5 procedures, pain gradually begins to fade, and then disappear.

A person quickly rebuilds and gets used to a new, and most importantly, the correct location of the spinal column and other organs.

If pain occurs later than 1-2 hours after treatment of the back with manual therapy, then it is worth looking for the cause due to which the condition worsened.

Most likely, this is a manifestation of some kind of disease, because the kinesiology effect has a number of contraindications.

Another cause of pain can be an incorrectly chosen technique. The specialist could overdo it, not calculate the strength of the impact. If so, then in a couple of days everything will pass.

It is important to distinguish between muscle pain and joint pain. Muscle pain after osteopathy is normal. It is quite easy to define it. For this you need:

  • take a hot bath;
  • rub your back;
  • do a relaxing or warming massage.

After these procedures, the state of health should improve, and discomfort should decrease. Muscle pain occurs due to the fact that manual back massage leads to muscle tone.

This is a kind of gymnastics, as a result of which the muscles are strengthened, and since lactic acid is released in them, it causes discomfort. With a rigid method of exposure, the muscles can hurt like after intensive training in the gym.

How to fix the result

It is simply necessary to consolidate the effect, and here a logical question arises - is it possible to do a back massage after manual therapy? Only a doctor can decide this, since in some cases massage may be prohibited.

If there are no contraindications, then every six months such a procedure should be done to help the muscles maintain the spine in the correct position, that is, as a preventive measure.

Osteopathy originated in the United States in the 19th century. Its founder is Andrew Taylor Still, who successfully combined two professions - a doctor and a bridge designer. Considering himself an ace in any design, Dr. Still suggested that an engineering approach to the human body can also be found. Osteo means bone in Greek and pathos means disease.

The resourceful American for the first time began to consider the human body as a system consisting of bones. Over time, osteopathy has developed, and now it affects not only bones, but also muscles, ligaments, internal organs, body fluids, and even the nervous system. In fact, there is a coherent scientific system behind the mysterious manipulations of the osteopath.

Reviews about osteopathy

“After giving birth, I started having severe back pain,” says 32-year-old Olga. - The situation was complicated by the fact that the child cried a lot, and most of the day had to be carried in a sling. When the baby was 7 months old (he already weighed almost 8 kilograms!), I realized that I had become disabled. My lower back and tailbone hurt so much that I couldn't sleep at night. A friend gave me the phone of an osteopath, and a miracle happened - in 15 minutes the doctor corrected everything!

“My mother suffered from joint pain for several years,” says 43-year-old Vera. - Pills, injections, trips to specialized sanatoriums did not give anything. When she began to limp and walk with a cane, we decided to try osteopathy. Mom forgot about pain and pills after three sessions.

“My daughter had neurological problems,” Evgenia recalls. - Tantrums, poor sleep, speech delay. After the first session, the girl herself said for the first time in the evening that she wanted to sleep, and did not act up. And after a course of five sessions, we noticed a jump in the development of speech, although this was not even expected. Now we go once every six months. Just don't ask me how it all works!"

In any osteopathic forum, you will find many similar stories. But next to them there will be caustic comments: “Have you tried to contact a neurologist and undergo examinations? They say that laying on hands on a full moon also works well ... ”or“ Osteopath - did your relative or clinic pay you for advertising? And if a traumatologist or a chiropractor enters the discussion, the situation will become even more confusing. The question is: who should we trust?

Aleksey Alekseevich KASHCHEEV, PhD, neurosurgeon at the Clinic for Expert Medical Technologies: “In Russia, unlike the USA and Europe, there are no standards in teaching osteopathy. So it is quite possible that today you will have one osteopathy, and tomorrow another. Among osteopaths there are both good doctors and charlatans. Actually, as elsewhere: there are some osteopaths who are better than some doctors, and this ratio is unstable. And most importantly: in the modern world of digital medicine, all methods are tested by statistics. Unfortunately, there is no statistically reliable evidence of the effectiveness of osteopathy.”

How does osteopathy work?

Classical osteopaths approach the body as a whole, where it is impossible to influence one without affecting the other. It is believed that the body has colossal abilities for self-healing, and a competent osteopath is able to start this process. Of course, the most difficult task is to find the root cause of the disease. Among the main causes are mobility disorders, which lead to disruption of the work of various body systems. Acting with the hands on the organs, the osteopath can remove functional blocks, restore fluid circulation in the human body and balance.

It is believed that the best specialists are able to find the cause of the pain even without an x-ray, but the results of the study of internal organs are always welcome. An examination by an osteopath will not be similar to the manipulations performed by neurologists or chiropractors. First of all, you will be carefully asked about the features of the lifestyle, well-being and emotional mood. After that, testing of the musculoskeletal system will begin - it is this that allows you to find the cause of the violations. Your doctor may suggest moving you, such as leaning forward or to the side, to see how your body behaves when you bend over.

How to choose an osteopath

Legs and head

Moreover, the connections that an osteopath can detect are far from always obvious. “I came to the osteopath with a headache,” Mikhail says. The doctor asked me to breathe, move my arms and legs, sit down and stand up. The verdict shocked me: the osteopath said that the cause of the headache was an ankle injury that I had six months ago. Allegedly, the adaptation of the body began: the mobility of the ankle was impaired, the knee joint adjusted, then the hip joint, shoulder, neck ... And the result - a headache! I was very surprised when the pain really subsided after the first session. They did 10 procedures, now nothing hurts.

If earlier you turned to massage therapists or chiropractors, then you are probably used to a fairly intense effect on pain points. At the osteopath's appointment, the manipulations are much softer - there should be no painful sensations, it may even seem to the patient that nothing is happening.

“When I turned to an osteopath for the first time, the thought did not leave me that my honestly earned money was crying,” Alexandra admits. - A pleasant man talked to me about life for half an hour, then laid me on the couch and began to barely perceptibly touch some completely arbitrary points. I had serious stomach problems - one wonders how they can be solved by touching the head or palms? To my surprise, I left a pleasant man in a great mood, and the next day I noticed that digestion was getting better.

How to choose an osteopath?

If you decide to test the effectiveness of osteopathy on your own experience, pay attention to a few rules.

First, when choosing a specialist, be guided by the advice of friends. In this case, word of mouth is the most faithful adviser. If you have satisfied patients among your friends and relatives, start with a trusted doctor.

Secondly, do not hesitate to ask the doctor about where and how he studied. A competent specialist will not be afraid of this question and will answer in detail. Keep in mind that a trustworthy osteopath must have a classical medical education, and in addition, certificates confirming the training in osteopathy. Moreover, studying in European schools is a serious plus. It is even better if the doctor continues to learn, improving his skills. It is worth paying attention to the age of the osteopath: since the training is quite long (and after receiving a diploma, it takes several years to “set your hands”), then a trustworthy doctor most likely will not be very young.

Thirdly, focus on your own feelings. For treatment by an osteopath, the mood and emotional contact between the patient and the doctor is very important.

Believe in osteopathy or not?

“My mom is a big believer in osteopathy,” says Elena. - She has a proven miracle doctor, with whom she has been taking two courses a year for several years. She says that she feels great and literally flies on wings after each session. After a serious leg fracture, I had to spend several weeks in a cast. To restore joint mobility, I decided to try my mother's specialist. My result is zero. The husband believes that the elderly mother-in-law simply likes the doctor, who listens attentively to all her complaints about her hard life. Sorry for the waste of time and money."

Meanwhile, many patients really note that after sessions of osteopathy, not only the physical condition improves, but also the emotional mood. Some even list the “feeling of lightness and flight” after a session as one of the criteria by which the skill of an osteopath can be judged. And even osteopaths themselves are sure that emotional contact is one of the most important conditions for success.

“Flying is too strong a word,” comments Marina, who has been regularly visiting an osteopath for back pain for more than five years. - But I noticed that every time I leave the office in a good, even mood, even if I went to the appointment nervous and tired. I have had three osteopaths in my life. The first one did not suit me purely psychologically - his very actions seemed somehow sharp and fussy. After the second — the state has not changed. On the other hand, the osteopath that I am currently treating, in five sessions, completely relieves me of pain for several months. But after that, I return to my sedentary lifestyle with stress and eternal haste, and after a while my back starts to hurt again. Among my acquaintances there are those who, on my advice, began to go to the same doctor, and those who do not believe in osteopathy at all, saying that it is a dummy and a placebo. I take these comments lightly. Even if it's pure self-hypnosis, it consistently makes me feel better, so what's wrong with this placebo?

How does osteopathy work? Expert opinion

Oleg Sergeevich YAKIMENKO, osteopath, certified at the Higher School of Osteopathy in Europe, Paris: “A good osteopath is an anatomist who has maximum tactility. He can see many of the patient's problems already at the moment when he undresses before the session - by the way the person moves. When you see this, you are automatically recorded as a psychic. But osteopathy is primarily anatomy. Our job is to achieve a feeling of freedom in every part of the body. This profession cannot be learned from textbooks, knowledge is passed from teacher to student. One of my teachers came up to me, put my hands under his and said: "You must hear." Is it possible to learn this from a book? Tactile sensitivity is gained only by experience. But there are clear criteria by which you can evaluate the work of an osteopath. The osteopath must test the patient. He will never say, "Lie down on the couch." If the doctor hasn't done any tests and immediately tells you to lie down, get up and leave. An osteopath in Russia must have a higher medical education and it is desirable to be able to read pictures. I always suggest that patients bring their MRI and ultrasound results with them. If the doctor does not look at the results of examinations, this should alert you. You shouldn't be in pain. If during the session there are painful sensations, you need to run away from such an osteopath. ”
