  • what can be done from a notebook

A notepad is a small notebook with loose-leaf paper fastened with a spiral or staples for taking notes and writing. You can buy a notebook at any office supply store, or you can make it yourself with a little effort and imagination. Making an exclusive little thing will not take much time, and the results will meet your expectations

In search of an unusual gift for a loved one, you can wander around the shops for hours and look at all kinds of banal goods in the windows, or you can spend quite a bit of time and make an exclusive gift. An excellent present is a notebook, which can be easily made from notebook sheets and decorated with beads, ribbons, lace or fabric. Having made such a wonderful gift for a loved one, you will probably want to make the same notebook for yourself.

Preparation for work

To make a notebook from a notebook, you will need the following materials and tools: a common notebook in a thick cardboard cover or A4 paper, scissors, a simple pencil, colored paper. To assemble the structure, you need to prepare a stapler, which can be replaced with an awl or a thick needle and thread. You can use any material you like to design the cover.

Making a notebook

Take a common notebook, open it in the middle, gently unfold it and remove the paper clips. Cut rectangles of the same size from notebook sheets. To make work go faster, cut the paper blanks in small batches or cut the sheets along the fold line, and then each page into four more parts. Instead of notebook sheets, you can use regular office paper. The notebook can be divided into several sections with colored paper inserts.

Now take a look at the cover. Take the cardboard cover from your notebook, flatten it and mark on it the dimensions of the front side of the wrapper, the allowance for the end fold and the back side of the cover. The end fold allowance is equal to the thickness of your notebook. If you want to get a notebook in a vertical (book) format, on the pattern, the parts should adjoin each other with narrow edges, if in a horizontal (landscape) format, with wide edges. Cut out the pattern with scissors and fold in the right places.

Next, put the sheets in a cardboard cover, align their cuts on a flat surface of the table and fasten the entire pack together with the cover with a stapler along the edge. If you fasten the blank along the narrow side, the notebook will have a portrait orientation, if along the wide side - landscape. If you do not have a stapler, or if the stapler cannot pierce the thickness of the notebook, you will have to flash the workpiece with threads, having previously punctured in several places along the edge with an awl or a thick needle.

Notepad design

The front part of the cover can be pasted over with a cloth, self-adhesive film, scraps of photo wallpaper or colored paper. You can stick a postcard, photo or application on the notebook. To decorate a notebook, you can use buttons, beads, beads, ribbons, lace, yarn and any other materials, the choice of which is limited only by your imagination.

Hello my friends :)
It so happened that in each master class there is a purely technical part of assembling a notebook, which is repeated from time to time. I noticed that I began to describe the assembly itself more superficially. Therefore, here I decided to describe this moment in as much detail as possible in order to give a link to it and not distract you with the same block of work.
This master class is purely technical (more aimed at beginners).

I must say right away that I will not use a purely A5 format, but with trimming. Namely, about 140x200 mm. Before work, be sure to measure your block. I will give sizes with small allowances.

So, for work I need:

6. Metal corners - so that fabric ones do not fray over time.

7. Paper for endpapers. I recommend using paper with a weight of 140 g or more. Especially for you, I have developed many designs for endpapers. I print them with pigment inks - they do not spread, do not fade, and the paper is archival quality. The texture of the paper is also not simple - rough to the touch, the texture is microverge. The size is immediately ready for the flyleaf (29x20cm).

First - we prepare the fabric. At this stage, you need to sew everything that you have in mind. I stitched lace and stitched fabrics together. If you are using pictures, pendants, ribbons and other items that need to be sewn on, now is the time.

I smooth out the seams on each side. First from the bottom and top, then from the sides.

We make the basis for the cover.
Apply to substrate (size 34x21.5 cm) binding board base.
There should be a distance of about 3-4 mm between the spine and the cover.
After the final fitting to the block in several places, the substrate is glued to the cover.

But before smoothing the corners and gluing the details, you MUST TRY IT ON!
Insert the backing and cover into the fabric. It must fit into the fabric.

Now we try on the block. Notepad should easily close.
It is at this stage that everything can be adjusted, trimmed, smoothed out
(if something does not suit).

Next - pull out the block and the cover with the fabric backing.
We iron the corners.
Twist 45 degrees, iron.
Then gently fold the corner and iron again.
And so all 4 corners.

Don't forget to bookmark!
To be honest, I always forget about this moment :)
About the bookmark - some are sewn exactly in the middle of the fabric (into the spine),
I shift a little to the right.

Lubricate the cover with glue around the perimeter. I glue the fabric.

In the corners, you need to additionally grease the fabric with glue.

You should get the following:

Do not forget to look at the front side - there should be no distortions or offsets.
The glue dries for about five minutes - you just have time to move the fabric if something is not lying correctly.

And in a folded form, too, everything should be in order :)

We paste the endpapers. This part is very important.
First, fold the paper in half (pattern inside).

Now WARNING!
We move the gauze. If it retracts completely, then the size of the flyleaf
matches the block size. Now my blocks are made with a small gauze sticker on the block, so I cut the flyleaf by 3 mm (look carefully at the photo).

Near the gauze I make a thin strip of glue

I'm putting in a flyer. I put glue on the gauze, glue it to the flyleaf.

Apply glue to the flyleaf and to the cover.

Turn the block over and carefully align the edges.

The main thing here is not to rush - let the block lie down for 10-20 minutes.
Better if you put a press on top.

Now grease the second paragraph with glue and paste it.

Glue paper and cover in the same way. Do not forget to apply glue to the fabric -
so that the endpapers are glued neatly and tightly.

Carefully try on and glue the flyleaf to the cover.

Be sure to press the block and see if nothing has moved.
The whole block for an hour under the press and the notebook is READY!

The final touch is to put the corners.
I additionally grease them with glue and clamp them a little with pliers so that they don’t fly off.

And thanks to my friend Katerina for inspiration - she gave me a set -
passport cover and phone case.

Beautiful work to you, friends :)

Photos of homemade notebooks can be seen on the Internet. In the same place, you can download ready-made layouts of the notebook that you liked, and it became necessary, when you saw it, to do this thing with your own hands.

The main stages of manufacture

To make a notebook with your own hands, you need a little patience, accuracy and accuracy.

Any instruction on how to make a notebook with your own hands includes three sections:

  • Cutting pages of the required size;
  • Gluing or stitching sheets into one block;
  • Cover making.

For the pages of the future notebook, plain paper is suitable. In the process of creating a cover, you can use almost any material. The easiest option is cardboard.

We will need:

  • sheet stack,
  • Glue.
  • Threads;
  • Cardboard.

This simplest version of the notepad can be done in three steps:

  • We bend the printed pages in half along the middle line;
  • We put on the prepared cover;
  • We sew on a typewriter or manually.

If desired, we paste bright applications on the cover and solemnly hand them to our child.

Notebook with zippered cover

It is also a simple option, it just looks much more presentable. During the manufacturing process, more material will be needed than in the previous case. In addition to a pack of sheets and cardboard, we need a beautiful fabric that will be used to decorate the cover, threads and a needle.

Instructions for making a notebook with a clasp cover

It is not difficult to make notebooks correctly. The whole secret here is how the pages are fastened together, the block is sewn (or glued together), the cover is made. All this can be learned during the manufacturing process. Maybe the first creation will not be a masterpiece, but the second, third copy will already turn out better.

A notebook with a zippered cover will be thin. It is made like this:

  • We prepare the necessary pages;
  • We bend them in half;
  • We make holes in the place of the bend;
  • We glue the cover with fleece, and on top - with a beautiful fabric;
  • The clasp is made from square strips. We glue the cover with fleece and fabric, sew it to the back of the cover.

Notepad as in a do-it-yourself store

Instructions for making a notebook with your own hands

The whole process begins with preparing the pages, stitching them into separate blocks. Bend carefully. Each stitched block consists of five folded sheets.

Align the pages, place them in a stack, clamp.

Let's start processing the spine. Using a ruler and a pencil, mark it into 7 equal parts. We make notches with a needle file.

Then glue the spine with silicone sealant. We use a sponge to carefully coat all the cracks. Let dry for a few hours.

Then we make a flyleaf from cardboard - a frame for the future cover, weave, if necessary, captal. And - the final stage - the cover is made, the sheets are attached to it. The notebook is finally ready.

It is worth noting that the manufacture of the cover is the most creative process. You can realize the most daring dreams and original ideas.

There is nothing complicated in how to make a notebook with interchangeable blocks of pages. It is very easy to think over the design of the cover (for example, on springs). Typically, such notebooks do not have a hard cover and all the difficulties with its manufacture are halved.

Ultimately, making original DIY crafts is a creative process. It turns out works of art that are worth being proud of.

DIY photo notebooks

If you like all kinds of beautiful notebooks, notebooks, with unique content and interesting covers, then maybe you should consider creating such a thing yourself. Ideally, you will need a color printer, you can try to come up with a design in black and white, you can create a design (or download - we will give a link to the first version of such a design just below) and print it in a printing shop, in a printing house. Perhaps you have a color printer in your library. The main thing here is to set the print settings correctly (they are indicated in the news with the design option for the notebook). Also, ideally, you will need a sewing machine, but if you don’t have one, you can use an awl, thread and a needle, but you need to do this very carefully (our little visitors only with the help of adults).
So, you will need two types of paper - one is simple office paper, and the other - depending on what is available - the main thing is that it is not too thin. Matte photo paper will do.
The author of the lesson uses the following layouts for the cover and pages:

We offer you these layouts in the style of Ever After High characters. (Layouts with other characters will also be added to the site over time)

You will find a complete set of page options with different Ever After High characters:.
We print the cover and the required number of inner pages. Pages must be printed on both sides of the sheets.

We fold the sheets in a pile and fasten them along the edges with clips.

There are markings on the layouts - the central line both on the cover and on the pages, it will help to do everything neatly. If there are not many leaves, then it is convenient to sew this line on a sewing machine. It is important to indent from the edges of the paper, laying a line, 1-1.5 cm, for cropping.
Note (on the layout of the Ever After High pages, the dark central line does not run along the entire height, before stitching it, it is better to carefully continue along the ruler with a pencil to make it more convenient to sew. But you need to stitch along the height of the entire colored part of the sheet, you will need to cut off the white edges)

This is what the line looks like:

You can also sew a notebook with an awl and thread with a needle. Bend the stitched notebook in half.

And leave a fold under the clips for a short while.

Now it remains only to cut. For such a small thickness, it is very easy to do it yourself with a knife and a metal ruler. If this is difficult, then any printing house has a cutter and, most likely, they will not refuse to help you.

Cut off 3 sides of the notebook, removing unnecessary edges.

That's all, a unique notebook or notebook will be ready.
