PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Pharmacodynamics. Antacid preparation of local action. Rennie® tablet contains antacid substances - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which provide fast and long-term neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid of gastric juice, thereby having a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Achieving a positive effect within 3-5 minutes is due to the good solubility of the tablets and the high content of calcium.

Pharmacokinetics. As a result of the interaction of Rennie® with gastric juice, soluble calcium and magnesium salts are formed in the stomach. The degree of absorption of calcium and magnesium from these compounds depends on the dose of the drug. Maximum absorption is 10% calcium and 15-20% magnesium. A small amount of absorbed calcium and magnesium is excreted through the kidneys. In case of impaired renal function, the concentration of calcium and magnesium in plasma may increase. In the intestine, soluble salts form insoluble compounds that are excreted in the feces.

INDICATIONS FOR USE
Symptoms associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux esophagitis: heartburn, sour belching, recurrent pain in the stomach, feeling of fullness or heaviness in the epigastric region, dyspepsia (including those caused by errors in diet, medication, alcohol abuse, coffee, nicotine), dyspepsia of pregnant women.

CONTRAINDICATIONS
Severe renal failure, hypercalcemia, hypophosphatemia, nephrocalcinosis, hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, children under 12 years of age.

USE DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION
When used in recommended doses, the drug does not pose a danger to the fetus or child.

METHOD OF APPLICATION AND DOSES

Pharmaceutical instructions for use of Rennie positions this drug as a fast-acting, effective and safe remedy for heartburn and a number of other problems caused by acidity in the stomach.

Rennie - description of the drug

Rennie belongs to a large pharmaceutical group of antacids and has a pronounced gastroprotective effect on the state of the gastric mucosa and the composition of gastric juice, reducing its hyperacidity.

The composition of the drug includes two active components that affect the state of acidity of the gastric secretion - these are magnesium and calcium carbonates. Active carbonates, due to which the effectiveness of the drug is achieved, enter into a chemical reaction with hydrochloric acid, transforming its excess into water and salts, which in turn are excreted from the body by the kidneys.

The drug provides a protective effect, that is, it helps to restore the integrity of the mucous membranes of the stomach. Due to the high content of calcium and the rapid dissolution of chewable tablets, the necessary therapeutic effect occurs within 5 minutes after taking the antacid.

Release form

Rennie is produced in the form of square-shaped chewable tablets with concave surfaces, white with a cream or brownish tint and "engraved" with the name of the drug on one side.

Each tablet contains 680mg calcium carbonate and 80mg magnesium carbonate. In addition to them, inside each Rennie tablet there are binding auxiliary elements, flavors and flavors with orange, mint and menthol flavors.

Tablets of 6 or 12 pieces are placed in blisters and packed in cardboard boxes. The pack with the drug may contain 12, 24, 36, 48 or 96 chewable tablets. In each box, in addition to blisters with tablets, a detailed annotation to the drug is included.

Indications

Many patients know that Rennie helps with heartburn. However, the therapeutic effect of the drug is not limited to this. Among the indications for its use there are a number of diseases, the development of which is based on the increased acidity of gastric juice. In medicine, the drug is prescribed for the following conditions:

  • dyspeptic manifestations (sour eructation, heartburn, pain in epistragia) caused by taking medications, dietary errors, smoking, drinking coffee or alcohol;
  • the effects of overeating or eating specifically seasoned foods;
  • dyspepsia during pregnancy;
  • periodic pain (gastralgia) or a feeling of heaviness in the stomach;
  • chronic gastritis with high acidity;
  • peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum;
  • acute forms of duodenitis.

The medicine can be used as an independent therapeutic drug or be part of the complex therapy of a particular pathology associated with an increased concentration of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Instructions for use

According to the instructions, the drug can be taken according to the following scheme - if symptoms of heartburn or pain in the stomach appear, the Rennie tablet should be chewed or simply dissolved in the oral cavity. The drug can be taken by adults and children from 12 years of age. At one time, an adult patient can take 2 Renia tablets at once.

If there is no relief within two hours after taking the first pill, you can take the pill again. In the event that taking the drug for several days did not bring the desired results, you need to consult a doctor for examination and treatment.

The dosage of the drug in the treatment of diseases of the digestive system depends on the type of pathology, the severity of the symptoms, the presence of contraindications. In such cases, the dosage regimen is always individual and is at the discretion of the attending physician. Usually tablets are taken in courses, three times a day for a couple of weeks. The optimal doses, schedule of administration and its duration in each case are determined by a specialist.

The maximum allowable daily amount of the drug for an adult is 11 tablets, for adolescents and the elderly - 8 tablets.

Contraindications

There are a number of absolute contraindications, in the presence of which the use of Renia is prohibited. These include:

  • dysfunction or other pathologies of the adrenal glands;
  • kidney failure;
  • increased levels of calcium in the blood;
  • individual intolerance to calcium and magnesium salts.

With extreme caution and short courses, the drug is prescribed for impaired renal function, since long-term use can lead to high levels of calcium and magnesium in the blood (hypercalcemia or hypermagnesemia). In addition, it should be borne in mind that Rennie's tablets contain sucrose, so taking them may not be safe for patients with diabetes.

Relative restrictions on the use of the drug is age - under 12 and over 60 years. In these cases, the medicine can be taken only as directed by the doctor and in the dosage and according to the scheme recommended by the specialist.

Adverse reactions

There are practically no side effects of the drug. Only in case of individual intolerance or taking Rennie in too high a dose, a rash, urticaria, diarrhea or skin itching may appear. If such symptoms appear, reduce the amount of medication taken or stop taking the antacid and consult a doctor to replace Rennie with another drug with a similar therapeutic effect.

Rennie during pregnancy

Very often, the course of pregnancy (especially in the later stages) is accompanied by heartburn and dyspeptic symptoms. In this case, taking Rennie will help to cope with adverse symptoms and improve well-being.

The drug can be safely taken throughout pregnancy, since the drug does not affect the intrauterine development of the fetus. Reny does not pose a risk to the baby during breastfeeding and can be used as needed.

Good to know

The only condition that must be observed is to strictly follow the instructions for the drug and not exceed the indicated dosages.

Rennie and alcohol

With regard to interaction with alcoholic beverages, there are no contraindications for taking Rennie after drinking alcohol. On the contrary, as evidenced by numerous reviews, the medicine perfectly relieves pain in the stomach, heaviness, nausea and other consequences of heavy feasts associated with a change in the acidity of gastric juice under the influence of alcohol.

When taking Rennie, it should be borne in mind that a decrease in the acidity of gastric juice can slow down the rate of absorption of other drugs. Therefore, other medicines should be taken a couple of hours before or after the antacid.

When used together, Rhenium reduces the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, iron preparations, glycosides, fluorides and phosphates. If an antacid is prescribed concomitantly with diuretics, it is necessary to control the level of calcium in the blood serum.

Good to know

Persons suffering from kidney pathologies should not take Rennie in high doses, as the likelihood of kidney stones increases significantly. In the process of treating this category of patients, it is necessary to regularly monitor the concentration of calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in the blood.

Patients with diabetes should not be prescribed Rennie with menthol or orange, as these forms of the drug contain sucrose. For diabetics, Rennie with the smell of mint is suitable. These tablets do not contain sugar, they contain sorbitol.

Price

The cost of the drug depends on the number of tablets in the package. The cost of Rennie in pharmacies varies within the following limits:

  • for 12 pieces - from 98 rubles;
  • for 24 pieces - from 168 rubles;
  • for 36 pieces - from 256 rubles;
  • for 48 pieces - from 300 rubles.

If desired, and after consulting a doctor, you can replace this remedy with cheaper analogues.

Analogues

Any drug has analogues, and Rennie is no exception. Absolutely all medicines included in the group of antacid drugs have a similar therapeutic effect on the digestive organs and the balance of acidity in the stomach. Structural analogues of Rennie for the active substance include drugs such as Andrews antacid and Tams.

As for analogues in the pharmacological group, the closest in terms of effect are such drugs as:

  • Agiflux;
  • Additive Calcium;
  • Alugastrin;
  • Alfo Gel;
  • Anacid Forte;
  • Alumag;
  • Becarbon;
  • Gasterin;
  • Gastal;
  • gastracid;
  • Gaviscon;
  • Gelusil;
  • Calcium Carbonate;
  • Maalox;
  • Magnatol;
  • sodium bicarbonate;
  • Revoloks;
  • Relzer;
  • RioFast;
  • Quicklight;
  • Talcid;

But, despite the similarity of the effect, the composition of these drugs is different, as well as contraindications, side effects, general effects on the body and other points. If Rennie's drug is prescribed by a doctor and is part of a comprehensive treatment, the unauthorized replacement of one drug with another is unacceptable. Only a specialist can select an analogue taking into account all the individual characteristics of the patient.

Rennie for heartburn is a medicinal substance that belongs not only to the group of antacids, but is also considered an excellent gastroprotector. It follows from this that such tablets can reduce burning sensation in the retrosternal region and protect the esophageal mucosa from the aggressive influence of acidic gastric juice, which is the main reason for the development of such an unpleasant symptom. Reflux of gastric juice occurs against the background of dysfunction of the esophageal sphincter.

The drug is in the form of chewable tablets, which include several active substances - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Getting into the cavity of the stomach, the medicine enters into interaction with the main components of gastric juice - hydrochloric acid. Thanks to these substances, it is neutralized and converted into water, as well as calcium and magnesium salts, which dissolve well in water. In addition, it is magnesium that protects the gastric mucosa.

Indications and contraindications

Heartburn accompanies almost all diseases of the digestive system, since they lead to a weakening or stretching of the sphincter muscle in the esophagus. Thus, indications for use can serve:

  • gastritis of an acute form or with an exacerbation of a chronic one, regardless of what served as the nature of the occurrence of such a disorder. Indicated for use in normal or elevated hydrochloric acid levels;
  • ulcerative lesions of the duodenum or stomach;
  • any form of duodenitis;
  • gastralgia is a condition in which a person has frequent sour belching;
  • the formation of erosions on the mucous membrane of the duodenum or stomach;
  • heartburn, regardless of etiological factors;
  • the formation of pain in the stomach due to malnutrition, abuse of harmful substances, in particular, alcohol and smoking, as well as uncontrolled intake of medications. It is these factors that negatively affect the shell of this organ.

In addition, Rennie with heartburn can be prescribed even to children under the age of twelve, but only in cases where the gastroenterologist is completely sure that the benefits of the drug will outweigh the harm that such a remedy can cause.

Rennie does not affect the reaction rate - it is for this reason that it is one of the few approved products for motorists.

Despite such a wide range of diseases for which it is necessary to drink Rennie, there are several conditions that prohibit the use of this drug. Contraindications include:

  • hypersensitivity or individual intolerance to one or another component of this medicine;
  • the presence of acute renal or hepatic insufficiency in a person;
  • increased levels of calcium in the blood;
  • myasthenia gravis, in which muscle weakness is observed.

A distinctive feature of such a medicinal substance is that it is not forbidden to be taken by female representatives during the period of bearing a child, as well as during breastfeeding of a baby. With caution, Rennie should be taken by people who are predisposed or suffering from diabetes. This is due to the fact that the tablets contain a small dose of sugar.

It is also worth noting that it is forbidden to drink Rennie with milk, for this it is best to use boiled or purified water without gas.

Varieties

There are several forms of release of such pills for heartburn:

  • without sugar, but with mint flavor;
  • with menthol aroma;
  • with orange flavor.

Regardless of which flavor the patient decides to choose, one box contains two or four plates, consisting of six tablets.

How to take Rennie

A Rennie tablet or its cheaper counterpart must be kept in the mouth until completely dissolved, or chewed. Adult patients and children over twelve years of age should take two tablets at a time. If the unpleasant symptoms do not disappear two hours after taking the drug, then it is not forbidden to drink one tablet of this medicine again.

The maximum daily dose is indicated in the instructions and should not exceed sixteen tablets. For children under twelve years of age, treatment with such a drug or its analogues is carried out strictly under the supervision of a specialist.

The duration of the course of therapy is determined by the doctor individually for each patient, but often does not exceed ten days. The shelf life of the drug is five years.

It is worth noting that Rennie may interact with some other drugs. For example, such tablets can enhance the effect of aspirin, and Atropine and Diphenhydramine prolong the action of Rennie. Therefore, it is necessary to take a two-hour break between the use of Rennie and other medicines.

Quite often, heartburn and its accompanying symptoms take a person by surprise, for example, on vacation, which is why such heartburn pills may not be at hand. It is for this reason that patients should know the list of inexpensive Rennie analogues.

Analogues of the drug are - Inalan and Remmax, Tams and Andrews antacid.

However, a wider list of Rennie analogues, depending on the pharmacological group:

  • Almagel;
  • Phosphalugel;
  • Alfogel;
  • Aktal;
  • Alugastrin;
  • Becarbon;
  • Gastal;
  • Maalox;
  • Revoloks;
  • Rokzhel;
  • Relzer;
  • Talcid;
  • Skoralayt and others.

Side effects

In cases of non-compliance with the dosage of Rennie for heartburn, prescribed by the attending physician or indicated in the instructions, there is a possibility of the following side effects:

  • redness, burning and itching of the skin;
  • anaphylaxis;
  • angioedema;
  • violation of the stool, in particular diarrhea;
  • feeling of severe discomfort in the stomach;
  • bouts of nausea, which may result in vomiting;
  • muscle weakness;
  • increased levels of sugar and calcium in the blood, which is very dangerous in some disorders;
  • weight loss;
  • violation of the process of swallowing food.

The last two symptoms should be the reason for the complete cessation of treatment with Rennie, and people are best to seek help from specialists as soon as possible.

From the foregoing, it follows that in no case should you start Rennie's treatment on your own, since a person may not be aware of the presence of contraindications. In addition, only a gastroenterologist can make a final diagnosis and determine the dosage for each patient.

Similar content

Phosphalugel from heartburn is one of the first steps in terms of the effectiveness of eliminating the symptom. The mechanism for alleviating the patient's condition is to neutralize hydrochloric acid in the esophagus, which causes a burning sensation in the retrosternal region. The medicine is sold in pharmacies in the form of a packaged suspension, which is very convenient to use. The drug in its composition and strength of action refers to non-absorbable antacids.

In the Russian Federation, three versions of the drug are officially registered: chewable mint tablets without sugar, chewable tablets with the smell of menthol, chewable tablets with an orange smell.

Each Rennie tablet contains 680 mg of calcium carbonate and 80 mg of basic magnesium carbonate.

Excipients: sucrose - 475 mg, pregelatinized corn starch, potato starch, talc, magnesium stearate, light liquid paraffin, menthol flavor, lemon flavor.

Excipients for sugar-free tablets: sorbitol, pregelatinized corn starch, potato starch, talc, magnesium stearate, light liquid paraffin, mint flavor, sodium saccharinate.

Pharmacological action of the drug Rennie
Rennie contains antacid substances - calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which provide fast and long-term neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid of gastric juice, thereby having a protective effect on the gastric mucosa. Achieving a positive effect within 3-5 minutes is due to the good solubility of the tablets and the high content of calcium. As a result of the interaction of rennie with gastric juice, soluble calcium and magnesium salts are formed in the stomach. The level of absorption of calcium and magnesium from these compounds depends on the dose of the drug. The maximum level of absorption is 10% calcium and 15-20% magnesium. A small amount of absorbed calcium and magnesium is excreted through the kidneys. In case of impaired renal function, the level of calcium and magnesium concentration in plasma may increase. In the intestine, soluble salts form insoluble compounds that are excreted in the feces.

The positive effects of Rennie are not limited to their acid-neutralizing activity of its components. Calcium and magnesium cations are able to bind bile acids in the gastric lumen. At the same time, at low pH values, the binding of calcium ions to bile acids increases, while at pH=6, conjugation processes are minimal. Calcium ions interact more with bile acids than magnesium ions. It is important that calcium and magnesium are more tropic precisely to lipophilic bile acids, in particular deoxycholic and taurocholic acids, which are characterized by the greatest cytotoxicity (Simanenkov V.I. et al.).

An important feature of the Rennie drug is the speed of onset of the antacid effect, due to the rapid increase in intragastric pH. Evidence for this comes from the results of a double-blind, placebo-controlled study comparing the time to onset of gastric pH >3.0 with Rennie, ranitidine, famotidine, and placebo. The analysis showed that the target pH in the stomach was reached after 5.8, 64.9, 70.1 and 240.0 minutes, respectively.

When prescribing antacids containing calcium carbonate, doctors often fear the development of "acid rebound" (an increase in hydrochloric acid production after stopping the drug). In a number of studies evaluating "acid rebound" after a single dose of 1 or 2 tablets of Rennie, it was demonstrated that the average pH in the stomach during 60-90 (and also 90-120, 120-150 and 150-180) minutes after the administration of the drug, has no statistically significant differences compared with the pH values after taking placebo. The absence of an "acid rebound" is explained by magnesium, which is part of Rennie, which is able to act as an antagonist of calcium-induced gastric hypersecretion (A.S. Trukhmanov, Yu.V. Evsyutina).

Indications for use Rennie
Symptoms associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux zophagitis: heartburn, belching, recurrent pain in the stomach; feeling of fullness or heaviness in the epigastric region; flatulence, dyspepsia (including those caused by errors in diet, medication, alcohol, coffee, nicotine abuse); dyspepsia in pregnancy.

Rennie is recommended for use in the "on demand" mode. Calcium carbonate, which is part of the drug, has a fast and long-lasting acid-neutralizing effect, enhanced by magnesium carbonate. In the stomach, calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate react with gastric hydrochloric acid to form water, soluble mineral salts, and carbon dioxide:

CaCO 3 + 2HCl → CaCl 2 + H 2 O + CO 2,

MgCO 3 + 2HCl → MgCl 2 + H 2 O + CO2.

A statistically significant increase in the pH in the stomach is observed from the first minutes of taking the drug, and on average, after 2.5–5.8 minutes, the pH in the stomach exceeds 3 (Simanenkov V.I. et al.).

Contraindications
  • severe renal failure
  • hypercalcemia
  • hypersensitivity to Rennie components
Dosing and Administration of Rennie
Adults and children over 12 years of age: Unless otherwise advised by a doctor, when symptoms appear, chew 1-2 Rennie tablets or keep in the mouth until completely absorbed. If necessary, you can repeat taking Rennie after 2 hours. The maximum daily dose is 11 Rennie tablets.

Special instructions: patients with impaired renal function are not recommended to take the drug for a long time in high doses. When prescribing Rennie to patients with impaired renal function, the concentration of magnesium and calcium in the blood serum should be regularly monitored. The use of Rennie in high doses may increase the risk of kidney stones.

Long-term use of high doses in combination with milk or dairy products can cause the development of milk-alkaline syndrome.

Instructions for patients with diabetes: 1 Rennie tablet contains 475 mg of sucrose. 1 tablet of Rennie without sugar contains 400 mg of sorbitol and saccharin and can be used by diabetic patients. If the use of the drug is ineffective, you should consult a doctor for advice.
