Description of the dosage form

  • Rectal cream Rectal suppositories Rectal suppositories are solid, without cracks, torpedo-shaped, slightly greasy to the touch, yellowish-white in color, with a weak specific odor.

pharmachologic effect

A drug for the local treatment of hemorrhoids, the therapeutic effectiveness of which is due to a combination of two components: tribenozide and lidocaine. Tribenoside has a venotonic and anti-inflammatory effect. The venotonic effect is manifested by improving vascular tone, reducing venous stagnation, reducing the permeability of capillaries and venules and improving microcirculation. The anti-inflammatory effect is manifested by an inhibitory effect on some endogenous substances that act as mediators in the development of inflammation and pain. Lidocaine has a local anesthetic effect. Procto-Glivenol® reduces the severity of symptoms caused by hemorrhoids (pain, skin tension, itching).

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption After rectal administration of one suppository, the Cmax of tribenoside in the blood plasma is reached after 2 hours and is 1 mcg/ml (tribenoside + metabolites). The bioavailability of tribenozide when administered rectally is 30% of the bioavailability when taken orally (in capsule form). After applying the cream, 2-20% of tribenoside is absorbed through the mucous membrane. Metabolism Tribenoside and lidocaine are rapidly metabolized in the liver. Excretion When 1 suppository is administered, 20-27% of the dose is excreted in the urine in the form of metabolites.

Special conditions

If the patient's condition does not improve significantly after using the drug or unusual symptoms appear, the diagnosis should be verified. During the treatment period, the patient must monitor the hygiene of the anal area, avoid excessive strain, and take measures to maintain a soft stool consistency. Effect on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery When used in doses not exceeding the recommended ones, the drug does not affect the ability to perform work that requires concentration, rapid mental and motor reactions.

Proctoglivenol is the optimal drug for the treatment of external and internal hemorrhoids, as well as anal fissures. Procto-Glivenol ointment has a softening effect on the anorectal area and is combined with suppositories.

Procto-Glivenol suppositories do an excellent job of reducing swelling and eliminating the inflammatory process in the tissues of the rectum. The ointment is indicated for the treatment of hemorrhoids and has a strong venotonic effect.

Proctoglivenol copes well with the inflammatory process and reduces the intensity of inflammation, as well as swelling. The main active components of the drug are lidocoine and tribenoside. Their combination allows you to get rid of intense pain, as well as eliminate itching and burning in the anorectal area and rectum.

The effectiveness of the drug helps reduce stagnation in the veins, as well as reduce vascular permeability. The therapeutic properties of Proctoglivenol are due to the pharmacological properties of the components combined in its composition.

The first results from the use of Proctoglivenol usually occur 2-3 hours after applying the ointment or inserting the suppository. Typically, the therapeutic effect is expressed in the elimination of pain and tissue swelling.

Complete cessation of the acute phase of hemorrhoids after one application is not observed. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to complete the full course of treatment with Proctoglivenol. If you follow all the rules for using the drug, the active ingredients will have the necessary effect on the problem area within 10-14 days. At the end of treatment, it is possible to achieve absolute healing of the mucosal tissue and elimination of hemorrhoids.

Compound

The drug contains 2 main active ingredients:

  1. Lidocaine- a medicinal component that is an excellent local anesthetic substance. Lidocaine stabilizes cell membranes and inhibits impulses in nerve structures, thereby reducing pain. Also, lidocoin, when applied topically, does not affect the myocardium. Lidocaine acts locally.
  2. Tribenoside- a component of synthetic origin. According to its properties, the drug reduces congestion in the veins and improves their tone. Tribenoside also helps eliminate swelling and suppresses inflammatory processes in tissues. The component also has an analgesic effect. Tribenoside also prevents the occurrence of thrombosis

The drug contains and additional components— Witepsol E 85 and W 35. These auxiliary elements hold the drug in the required shape and create a homogeneous structure.

One suppository contains 400 mg of Tribenoside and 40 mg of Lidocaine, as well as additional components. One plate is divided into 5 cells. One cardboard pack contains 10 candles.

One gram of ointment contains 0.05 g of Tribenoside and 0.02 g of Lidocaine. Proctoglivenol rectal ointment is packaged in aluminum tubes. One tube contains 30 g of ointment. The cardboard package contains 1 tube and 1 applicator for application. One tube of ointment is enough for 30 full applications.

Instructions for use of suppositories and ointment Proctoglivenol

Proctoglivenol suppositories are used sequentially:

  1. The intestines need to be emptied. It is possible to use an enema or laxatives.
  2. The anorectal area is washed with warm water and soap.
  3. With clean hands, the candle must be inserted deep into the anal canal. Nails should be cut short to avoid injury to the mucous membrane. An applicator can also be used for administration.
  4. The suppository should be inserted while lying on your side.

The duration of treatment, frequency of administration of suppositories and the required dosage should be determined by the attending physician. Typically, adults are prescribed 1 suppository twice a day. When a clear effect appears and the patient’s condition improves, the dose is reduced by 2 times.

Proctoglivenol ointment is applied twice a day. Before starting the procedure, the patient also needs to empty his bowels and perform hygiene procedures. Approximately 1 g of ointment is used per application.

When used internally, the ointment is applied using an applicator. If the ointment is used externally, the patient should apply it to a clean gauze base and apply it to the painful area. After the severity of symptoms has decreased, the ointment is applied not twice, but only once a day, before bedtime.

If the patient has severe pain, the doctor may increase the dose of the drug.

Indications and contraindications

The drug is indicated for the conservative treatment of hemorrhoids. The instructions state that Proctoglivenol is used for the treatment of mild and moderate hemorrhoids. Ointment and suppositories allow you to treat both external and internal types of disease.

In cases where surgical treatment of complex forms of hemorrhoids is impossible, Proctoglivenol is also prescribed. In some cases, Proctoglivenol is also prescribed for the treatment of complex hemorrhoids in pregnant women.

Proctoglivenol is also indicated for the treatment of other diseases of the anorectal region, including anal fissures.

Contraindications

There are not many contraindications for the drug, but they still exist. Proctoglivenol is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the drug. In this case, Proctoglivenol should not be used under any circumstances. This can lead to worsening of the disease, as well as increased swelling.

Proctoglivenol should not be used to treat hemorrhoids in pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy. This can affect not only the woman’s body, but also the healthy development of the fetus.

Photo: Procto-Glivenol is used for children over 12 years of age

The drug is not used to treat children under 12 years of age. This is due to the fact that in modern global pediatrics there is no data on the effects of the drug components on the child’s body. Therapy with this drug may not be safe for the baby.

If the drug is used, despite the presence of any contraindications in the patient, the patient may experience side effects or their significant increase. Regression may also occur during the course of the disease.

If you decide to use Proctoglivenol, the patient must notify his proctologist. This is the only way to avoid the occurrence of complications against the background of any contraindications.

Proctoglivenol during pregnancy

During pregnancy, the use of Proctoglivenol is unsafe. In the first trimester of pregnancy, Proctoglivenol is strictly prohibited for patients. From 4 to 9 months of gestation, it is also not completely safe to use Proctoglivenol. The drug is prescribed only if absolutely necessary. During lactation, Proctoglivenol is also almost never used.

special instructions

The patient needs to see a doctor if:

  • the disease only progresses as Proctoglivenol is used;
  • symptoms of the disease do not go away;
  • allergic manifestations occurred in the form of rash, itching, burning, etc.;
  • Additional symptoms and discomfort appeared.

When using Proctoglivenol, it is necessary to monitor the normalization of nutrition and soft stools. You need to avoid constipation and maintain hygiene in the anal area. It is necessary to exclude any physical and emotional stress.

The drug does not in any way affect the ability to drive vehicles or concentration. No decrease in the speed of mental reactions was noted. The exception is a significant excess of the dose of the drug used.

A greater effect from the drug can be achieved in the early stages of hemorrhoids. In more advanced situations, the impact of Proctoglivenol and the therapeutic effect are significantly reduced.

Prices for suppositories and ointment Proctoglivenol

The price of Proctoglivenol varies depending on which pharmacy chain sells the drug, as well as the region and form of release.

The average cost of Proctoglivnol suppositories is 570 rubles. Proctoglivenol ointment costs 450 rubles on average in Russia.

You can also find cheaper analogues of the drug, but this does not guarantee the same high effect as from the use of Proctoglivenol.

Analogs

Proctoglivenol for hemorrhoids has a number of analogues.

  1. Doloproct suppositories and cream. The cost of Doloproct in the form of suppositories is 120 rubles, the cream costs about 220 rubles. The drug also contains lidocaine, as well as the additional component fluocortolone.
  2. Aurobin ointment. The cost of the medicine is 130 rubles. The active ingredient is also lidocaine. Additionally, the ointment contains prednisolone and dexpanthenol.
  3. - a cheaper and more accessible drug for every patient. Its average cost in Russia is only 30 rubles. The base does not contain lidocaine and tribenozide. The main active ingredients are belladonna extract, zinc sulfate and xeroform. The effect of therapy is similar, but does not give the same results as Proctoglivenol. The drug is prohibited for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  4. Bezornil ointment is also an inexpensive analogue of Proctoglivenol. Its cost is only 40 rubles. The active ingredients of the drug are borneol, artificial bezoar and musk, pearls and amber. The composition of the drug is quite rich, but before use you should definitely consult a doctor.
  5. Belladonna extract in the form of suppositories. The cost of the analogue is only 15 rubles. The effectiveness is quite high, but the drug is not suitable for all patients and can cause harm to the body. Suppositories should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding; Belladonna Extract is also contraindicated for children. This is explained by the main active ingredient of the drug. Belladonna is a natural poison that is not dangerous in small concentrations, but can harm a number of patients.

Proctoglivenol is described in the annotation as an original combination drug from Novartis, designed to help patients fight hemorrhoids. Unfortunately, hemorrhoids are not uncommon today. Almost every third adult inhabitant of the earth suffers from it.

The features of this pathology require long-term independent treatment. This means that drugs for hemorrhoids must meet several criteria at once: be effective, fairly safe, approved for long-term use and, if possible, affordable. Most of these requirements are met by Procto-Glivenol.

The instructions describe Proctoglivenol suppositories as a medicine with a set of the following therapeutic options. The drug works as a local anesthetic and has proven to be a venotonic. It has also proven to be a local anti-inflammatory agent. It owes its last quality to the antagonistic properties of the active substance to a number of endogenous inflammatory mediators. This allows you to fight swelling in the affected area.

Thanks to these properties, Procto-Glivenol fights severe itching and defeats it in 97% of cases of hemorrhoids, relieves burning in 100% of cases of “on-point” use, and relieves pain.

Proctoglivenol suppositories ease tissue tension in the anal area and significantly reduce mucus secretion. According to clinical trials, the drug Procto-Glivenol has demonstrated effectiveness comparable to that of hormonal drugs, in particular Prednisolone.

With such pronounced effectiveness, Proctoglivenol suppositories have two significant advantages (compared to steroid drugs):

  1. They are much less likely to cause a negative reaction from the body. Mainly due to the fact that the active components of the drug penetrate into the systemic bloodstream in minimal quantities.
  2. Unlike local glucocorticosteroid treatment, Procto-Glivenol does not slow down the healing process of anal tissue and does not prevent rapid scarring of the mucosa in anal fissures.

The instructions for use recommend proctoglivenol for exacerbation of hemorrhoids, but according to experienced proctologists, the medicine does not treat hemorrhoids. It can relieve swelling, relieve pain, and make defecation easier. It does not interfere with regenerative processes, does not stimulate the growth of pathogenic microflora or cancer cells, but you still need to seek professional help. This is a good drug when used correctly, but not a panacea. Proctoglivenol during pregnancy is allowed from the 4th month of gestation.

General characteristics of the drug

The medicine is available in the form of a cream and Procto-Glivenol suppositories. This article is about suppositories. The instructions describe Proctoglivenol as yellowish, dense “torpedoes” with an unexpressed but specific aroma. The medicine contains 2 active substances:

  • Lidocaine in the amount of 40 mg. It is this that provides the effect of anesthesia.
  • Tribenozide in an amount of 400 mg. This component fights signs of inflammation, reduces the permeability of the vascular wall and improves its tone.

The auxiliary component is vitepsol. The candles are packed in cardboard boxes containing 2 strips. Each strip holds 5 suppositories.

Contraindications and side effects

The instructions for use position Proctoglivenol suppositories as a drug with a minimum of contraindications. Do not use suppositories if you have an allergy/intolerance to any of the components, in the first trimester of pregnancy or liver failure.

Side effects when inserted into the anus rarely bother patients. This can be an allergic reaction from urticaria to anaphylaxis, with disruption of the cardiovascular system. Usually the medication is well tolerated.

It is likely that the drug can be overdosed. But such cases have not been recorded. In case of negative consequences of excessive use of Procto-Glivenol suppositories, it is recommended to rinse the intestinal tract and treat the existing symptoms.

In case of any unpleasant sensations associated by the patient with the use of the described medicine, as well as in the absence of effect from the administration of suppositories, you should immediately contact a proctologist.

Before finding out the price of Proctoglivenol suppositories, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the rules for their use.

The main indications for the use of Proctoglivenol in suppositories are internal and external hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

When treating with this medication, you must carefully observe the rules of hygiene, especially in the anal area, monitor the consistency of your stool, and take measures to keep it soft. Serious tension in this area should be avoided (this excludes heavy lifting and active stress on the muscles in the areas adjacent to the rectum).

Procto-Glivenol is administered rectally in suppositories. For severe signs of hemorrhoids, take a suppository twice a day. In the stage of regression of the disease, take a suppository every 24 hours.

Cost of the drug

It is unlikely that you will be pleased with the price of Procto-Glivenol suppositories. This is a Swiss drug, so it is not cheap. On average, the price for Proctoglivenol suppositories is 530-600 rubles for 10 pieces.

Drugs with similar effects

Considering the price of Proctoglivenol, you will undoubtedly want to find out whether there are analogues for the medicine. If you are not satisfied with the cost of the medication or you are one of the rare patients who cannot tolerate its components, your doctor may suggest a replacement:

  • /Relief-Advance/Relief Ultra (comparable in cost to the drug Procto-Givenol);
  • Anuzol-Neo (without belladonna)/Anuzol (with belladonna) about 65 rubles;
  • Proctosedyl from 380 rubles;
  • from 72 rubles;
  • Anestezol from 77 rubles;
  • Natalsid from 350 rubles;
  • Aurobin about 300 rubles;
  • about 80 rubles;
  • Suppositories with belladonna cost about 25-50 rubles.

All these remedies and many others are used for hemorrhoids, but in the full sense of the word they are not analogues for the described medication. Because they have a completely different composition.

Reviews at a Glance

Reviews for the drug Procto-Glivenol are generally positive both from doctors and from patients who suffered from hemorrhoids and bleeding before treatment. Proctologists consider the medicine to be effective during the first hours after administration. Successful in the selection of components, because they rarely encounter side effects and complaints about the medicine from patients. In their opinion, the efficiency/price combination is quite acceptable. But while giving reviews on Proctoglivenol suppositories with a positive slant, doctors still advise not to treat yourself, but to seek specialized help.

Patients also give Proctoglivenol positive reviews. Although the price of the medicine is still pointed out as a negative point. You can hear many reviews of the drug Procto-Glivenol suppositories with nods of gratitude to the manufacturer from women suffering from postpartum hemorrhoids. The drug helped them reduce pain and treat the disease.

Finally, a few words about one of the most frequently asked questions: Proctoglivenol or Relief, which is better? Relief is one of the most prescribed and expensive antihemorrhoidal drugs. Considered one of the best. But unlike drugs, Procto-Glyvenol has significantly more contraindications and side effects. Unfortunately, there is no clear answer to the question asked. A good drug is the one that, as a result of testing, gave the maximum result with a minimum of damage specifically to your body.

Procto-Glivenol is intended for local treatment of hemorrhoids. Procto-glivenol contains two active components - tribenoside and lidocaine. The drug has an anti-inflammatory, local anesthetic and venotonic effect. Helps reduce pain, improve microcirculation and reduce the intensity of the inflammatory process. When using the drug, there is a decrease in vascular permeability, a decrease in venous stagnation, and the elimination of such symptoms of hemorrhoids as itching and pain in the anus and rectum.

The mechanism of action of the drug and its therapeutic effects are determined by the pharmacological properties of the active components included in its composition.

Tribenoside is a synthetic drug substance of the glucofuranoside class. The mechanism of action of the drug has not been fully studied; it is assumed that it is based on the ability of tribenoside to inhibit the activity of such endogenous amines as bradykinin, histamine and serotonin. In addition, tribenoside is an antagonist of certain humoral factors that contribute to the development of vasodilation, edema, inflammation and increased vascular permeability. During the studies, it was noted that the drug does not affect the activity of endogenous vasoconstrictors, including norepinephrine and epinephrine. The drug helps eliminate congestion in the veins, increases the tone of the veins and leads to a decrease in pathologically increased vascular permeability. Being an antagonist of inflammatory mediators, tribenoside helps reduce the intensity of the inflammatory process and has an analgesic and decongestant effect. In addition, the drug reduces the ability of platelets to adhere.

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic drug, an acetanilide derivative. The mechanism of action of the drug is based on the ability of lidocaine to block sodium channels, resulting in stabilization of cell membranes. Lidocaine inhibits the generation and conduction of impulses in nerve structures, while the suppressive effect of lidocaine on the conduction of both pain impulses and impulses of other modalities was noted. When applied topically, it has no effect on the myocardium.

When using the drug in the form of rectal suppositories, the bioavailability of tribenozide is 30% of that when using oral forms of tribenozide.

The maximum plasma concentration of tribenoside when administered rectally is 1 μg/ml and is achieved within 2 hours after administration of the suppository. When using the drug Procto-glivenol in the form of a cream, about 2-20% of tribenoside enters the systemic circulation. Tribenoside is metabolized in the liver and excreted primarily by the kidneys in the form of metabolites.

Lidocaine is well absorbed when applied to mucous membranes, while after application to intact skin the absorption of lidocaine is negligible. After rectal use, the bioavailability of lidocaine is about 50%. The maximum plasma concentration of lidocaine after using the drug Procto-glivenol is about 0.7 µg/ml and is achieved within 2 hours. Metabolized in the liver, excreted by the kidneys, both unchanged and in the form of metabolites.

Indications for use

The drug Procto-glivenol is used as a means of conservative treatment of internal and external hemorrhoids in patients with mild and moderate severity of the disease.

In addition, the drug can be used to treat patients with severe hemorrhoids, if for some reason surgical treatment is impossible, including treatment of severe hemorrhoids that developed during pregnancy.

Mode of application

Procto-glivenol is used rectally. Before using the drug, it is recommended to wash your hands thoroughly.

Adults with acute hemorrhoids are usually prescribed 1 suppository or 1 application of cream 2 times a day (morning and evening) until acute symptoms disappear. After the clinical picture improves and pronounced clinical symptoms disappear, they switch to using 1 suppository or 1 application once a day.

Adults with internal hemorrhoids are usually prescribed the drug in the form of suppositories or cream according to the standard regimen, and the cream is recommended to be administered into the rectum using a special applicator.

Side effects

Procto-glivenol is usually well tolerated by patients; in isolated cases, when using the drug in the form of suppositories or cream, patients experienced the development of local allergic reactions, including skin itching. In isolated cases, when using the drug, patients experienced a burning sensation in the anal area.

Contraindications

  • Increased individual sensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • the drug is not prescribed to women in the first trimester of pregnancy;
  • Due to the lack of reliable data on the effectiveness and safety of the drug Procto-glivenol in children, the drug is not recommended for use in pediatrics.

Pregnancy

The drug Procto-glivenol is not used during the first three months of pregnancy. In the second and third trimester, the drug Procto-glivenol can be prescribed by the attending physician if the expected benefit to the mother is higher than the potential risks to the fetus.

The drug can be used during lactation as prescribed by the attending physician.
