As an amulet, the star protects wizards from attacks by demons and spirits, and as a talisman it allows them to communicate with and command demons. Some figures are also symbols, although they do not have the shape of a five-pointed star: these are circles, semicircles, squares and crosses, on which the names of angels or demons are inscribed,
magical names of God. These symbols act as talismans to achieve special goals: wealth, love or revenge. A sacred symbol of witchcraft, which is often misunderstood due to the association of an inverted five-pointed star, with one point down and the other two points up, with hell. If in its normal position a five-pointed star represents God or a deity, then an inverted one usually represents Satan.

The pentagram, pentalpha, pentacle is one of the most important symbols in magic. The word pentagram comes from the Greek words "pente", which means five, and "gramma", which means letter. The pentagram is a five-pointed figure formed by two ascending intersecting rays that extend from each side of the pentagon, thus forming a star. It represents the action of the Eternal Spirit and the Four Elements under the Divine control of the letters of the name yeheshuah.

Some scientists believe that the pentagram originally appeared about four thousand years ago in Mesopotamia, probably as an astronomical diagram of the movement of the planet Venus. The first known images of a pentagram—five-pointed stars drawn on clay—were found in the ruins of the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk.

Images of pentagrams are also found on Egyptian statues: the Egyptians called the pentagram “the star of dog-headed Anubis.” The connection between the sign of the pentagram and the figure of Anubis was not accidental. In one of the texts of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, there is a description of the Judgment of Osiris, the god of the underworld, in which Anubis weighed the heart on the Scales of Truth. On the left pan of the scales was placed the heart of the deceased, on the right - the feather of the goddess Maat, which symbolized the truth. In the image of Anubis, the Egyptians saw a fair judge who, together with Osiris, decided the fate of the human soul. The pentagram is found in the religious and magical traditions of many peoples.

The Babylonians used the pentagram as a magical talisman: faith in its protective properties was so deep that in Ancient Babylon this symbol was depicted on the doors of shops and warehouses to protect goods from damage and theft. The pentagram was also a powerful sign of power: in Babylon, for example, this sign is often found on royal seals, and, according to modern scientists, it personified “the power of the ruler, extending to all four corners of the world.”

For the Jews, it was associated with their sacred Pentateuch, received by Moses from God, the ancient Greeks called the pentagram Pentalpha: Triple Triangle. If we translate this word from Greek, it means five letters Alpha, in their interlacing they formed a five-pointed star. The Greeks depicted her on their shields.

To early Christians, the pentagram was a reminder of the five wounds of Christ, which he received while suffering for humanity, and it also symbolized the Trinity and the Dual nature of Christ. In addition, the “Star of the Magi” was identified with it, which helped the eastern sages find the baby Jesus.

The Pythagoreans also knew about the pentagram. They taught that the world consists of five interconnected elements of Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Ether and chose the pentagram as a secret symbol of belonging to their society. Pythagoras argued that the pentagram represents mathematical perfection: the five-pointed star is proportional, closed and has the so-called “golden ratio” (a term coined later by Leonardo da Vinci). If you divide the length of any segment of a figure by the length of the longest of the remaining smaller segments, you get the golden ratio (φ). Today science has established that the patterns of “golden” symmetry are manifested in the energy transitions of elementary particles, in the structure of some chemical compounds, in planetary and cosmic systems, in the gene structures of living organisms. In addition, the ratios of the “golden section” are present in the structure of individual human organs and the body as a whole, and also manifest themselves in biorhythms and the functioning of the brain and visual perception. In art, this is a recognized canon of beauty. In addition, Pythagoras considered the pentagram to be perfect in a mystical sense: it was a combination of the numbers “2” (symbol of the feminine, earthly principle) and “3” (symbol of the masculine, heavenly principle), i.e. a unique embodiment of spiritual-physical harmony.

The Gnostics also taught that the pentagram is a symbol of intellectual omnipotence and power, who painted it on their talismans. The pentagram, called the “seal of King Solomon,” was known to Arab magicians.

The Chinese pentagram Wu Xing (Five Elements), the angles of which symbolize water, earth, idea (or spirit), fire and air, represents the union and interaction of these five elements.16

Moreover, the Wu Xing pentagram is still used in Chinese medicine and European electropuncture, and yet it is more than 4 thousand years old! Why, no one knows, but, as already noted, the human body and its psyche are structured according to the principle of fivefold. We have 5 main senses (vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste), 5 limbs (two arms, two legs and a head), 5 fingers. According to psychologists, in the field of attention we can simultaneously hold from 3 to 7 symbols - on average, again, 5 are obtained. All this points to a fundamental fact: our perception, thinking, action are FIVE CHANNEL - and the five-pointed star is a wonderful map for correlating these 5 channels.17

In China, for more than 4 thousand years, the pentagram has been used as a kind of calculator, in which certain human organs are “assigned” to the rays of a star or the elements. The activity of organs changes throughout the day—some organs are active, then others. The innovation of the Wu Xing pentagram is manifested in the fact that the elements support each other's neighbors, but suppress their neighbors. Human internal organs also interact: the pentagram shows how changes in the functioning of one organ lead to corresponding changes in others. Studying this kind of relationship between organs helps predict the course of the disease and its complications, and determine the root cause of the disease.

The magicians of medieval Europe learned about the “seal of King Solomon” precisely from Arabic manuscripts. During the Renaissance, the secret of the Pentagram was revealed. If you inscribe a human figure into it, connect it with the four elements Fire, Water, Air, Earth and the fifth - the Spirit, which controls them all, you will get an image of the Microcosm - a sign of our Spiritual Work on the material plane. The famous magician Cornelius Agrippa first wrote openly about this in 1531 in the second book of his Occult Philosophy. Eliphas Levi tried to fully describe all the secrets of the pentagram in the 19th century in his famous work “The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic.”

Each corner of the pentagram symbolizes a specific element (fire, water, air, earth, spirit). There are summoning and banishing pentagrams. The invoking pentagram is drawn in the direction, and the expelling one in the opposite direction, relative to the angle of the Pentagram that relates to the corresponding element. When drawing a pentagram of the spirit, one should draw the corresponding Kerubic symbol inside it. Air is expressed by the water symbol (Aquarius) because it contains rain and moisture. The first mention of the pentagram as a symbol of evil dates back to the infamous Templar Trial. In 1312, the French king Philip IV the Fair, having coveted the money of the Knights Templar, convinced Pope Clement V to begin a trial against this powerful society. The official reason was traditional - accusation of heresy. Among medieval knights, the pentagram symbolized the five chivalrous virtues: generosity, courtesy, piety, nobility and courage, and, according to the rules, the five-pointed star was supposed to adorn the coat of arms of the third son in the family. This was the reason for the trial of the Templars. As a result of skillful inquisitorial interrogations, the unfortunate knights “gave up” such terrible tales about the satanic rituals they carried out that modern occultists are still “feeding” on them. In interrogation documents, the pentagram is mentioned by the knights as a symbol hanging on the neck of an idol named Baphomet.

In esotericism, a five-pointed star is a figure of the “third celestial light” along with the sun and moon. This is an interesting fact, since even the ancient Greeks believed that the five-pointed star was associated with the goddess of Love, Aphrodite (Venus). This star had a dual meaning: Venus appears in the sky twice during the day: immediately before sunrise and immediately after sunset. Many signs, drawings in the form of symbols that were used in ancient times are now popular, and the five-pointed star in a circle is now at the peak of popularity.

There is no reliable information about who was the first to use or come up with this pentagram. During its existence, the five-pointed star either appeared in the “skyspan of history” or went into the shadows. Now she is “shining” and popular again.

The famous Pythagoras was captivated by the pentagram with the ideality of its proportions, corresponding to the golden, or divine, section, which has a lot of mathematical and magical properties. Cut the apple across the core to create a star in a circle. Perhaps that is why the five-pointed star is depicted inside a circle. For Pythagoras, a five-pointed star with its apex pointing upward meant the addition of the number three plus two and signified the balance of the ideal universe. According to one version, it is Pythagoras who owes this symbol its current name - the pentagram.

The philosopher-scientist himself and his followers correlated each ray of a star with five symbols.

In written sources, this sign was first mentioned as a witchcraft sign during the trial of the Knights of the Templar Order.

Another interpretation of the meaning of the pentagram is the combination of the three elements of Spirit and two elements of Matter. The famous occultist and religious philosopher Elena Petrovna Blavatsky explained in her article about the symbol of the five-pointed star in the magazine “Theosophist” in 1881:

“Like the six-pointed star symbolizing the Macrocosm, the five-pointed star has its own deep symbolic meaning, for it represents the microcosm... The emblem of the microcosm (“small universe”), accurately representing the Macrocosm (great cosmos), is a sign of the superiority of the human mind or spirit over gross matter.” .
