Triphala application and description. Classic uses of Triphala

In one of the simple recipes, Charaka advises mixing (the powder) with water and spreading the resulting paste on the surface of a metal vessel and leaving it there for 24 hours. After which, the paste can be taken with honey or water in combination with ghee. At the same time, the Indian Ayurvedic formulary states that Triphala Churna is prepared from equal parts of Bibhitaki, Haritaki and Amalaki. The same reference book recommends taking 3 - 6 grams of powder with honey, ghee and/or warm water for anakha (increased gas formation and constipation), prameha (diabetes) and netra roga (eye diseases).

It should not be surprising that different sources suggest preparing Triphala in different ways. Based on thousands of years of experience in using this remedy in the treatment of various diseases, experienced practitioners independently change the quantitative composition of the Triphala formula, based on the uniqueness of each specific case of the disease. For example, when treating a condition such as Vataja (imbalance of Vata dosha) arising due to anah (increased gas formation, constipation), the amount of Bibhitaki, Haritaki and Amalaki will be increased to achieve a greater effect. But despite this, most practitioners will agree that in small doses (1-2 grams) Triphala Churna is safe and optimal for long-term use, and in large doses (10 - 15 grams) Triphala acts as a laxative and should be taken within limited period of time. The use of Triphala as a laxative is equally safe for both children and the elderly because the anti-aging effects of Triphala significantly reduce the potentially harmful health effects of the laxative.

The composition of Triphala also varies depending on the anupana with which it is planned to be taken. Anupana is a substance that enhances the absorption (absorption) of a medicine. Which anupana should be used depends on the current state of the doshas. The most common anupanas are ghee, honey and warm water. When treating Vataja type conditions, it is best to mix Triphala Churna with two parts ghee and one part honey and drink it with warm water. For Pittaja (imbalance of Pitta dosha) you should use only ghee, and for Kaphaja (imbalance of Kapha dosha) honey and wash it down with warm water.

Triphala application and description. Triphala, as an integral part, is present in many Ayurvedic formulas.

As a simple rasayana, Charaka Samhita suggests using equal parts of Triphala, Madhuka flowers (Madhuka indica), Tvakshiri juice (Bambusa arundinaceae), seeds (Piper longum), ghee, honey and unrefined sugar.
