Will a unicorn horn help, or What is Anaferon? Affinity purified antibodies to human interferon gamma Use during pregnancy and lactation.

Production

The production technology of the drug, according to the manufacturer, includes immunization of rabbits with recombinant human interferon gamma to obtain antibodies to human interferon gamma. Antibodies to human gamma interferon, which are declared as the active ingredient of Anaferon, are isolated from the blood serum of an immunized animal using the affinity purification method on an adsorption column.

The resulting antibodies undergo a potentiation procedure. The initial solution is repeatedly diluted sequentially (from 12 to 50 times) with an aqueous-alcohol solution in the ratio of 1 part antibody solution and 99 parts aqueous-alcohol solution.

pharmachologic effect

Due to the fact that this drug is a homeopathic drug, the concentration of the active substance in it is extremely low (up to a very high probability of complete absence of active substances in a particular pill) and the concentration of impurities significantly, by many orders of magnitude, exceeds the content of the main substance of the drug. The therapeutic effect of the drug Anaferon, like all known homeopathic remedies, is due to the placebo effect. The physiological mechanism by which antibodies to human interferons could have an immunomodulatory effect is unknown.

According to the manufacturer, the drug has an immunomodulatory effect and prevents the development of the influenza virus, as well as a number of other viral infections:

pharmachologic effect: immunomodulatory, antiviral. Stimulates the humoral and cellular immune response. Increases the production of antibodies (including secretory IgA), activates the functions of T-effectors, T-helpers (Th). Increases the functional reserve of Th and other cells involved in the immune response. Induces the formation of endogenous “early” interferons (alpha/beta) and gamma interferon (IFN-gamma). It is an inducer of a mixed Th1- and Th2-type immune response: it increases the production of Th1 (IFN-gamma, IL-2) and Th2 (IL-4, 10) cytokines, modulates the balance of Th1/Th2 activities. Increases the functional activity of phagocytes and NK cells. Reduces the concentration of the virus in affected tissues. Has antimutagenic properties.

Studies supporting claims have been published in non-reputable scientific journals.

The method by which antibodies to interferon can help in the prevention or treatment of influenza and ARVI is not known to science.

Declared composition

Anaferon is a tableted mixture of sweetener and ballast substances.

According to the manufacturer, 1 tablet contains affinity-purified antibodies to human interferon gamma: a mixture of homeopathic dilutions C12, C30 and C200 - 3 mg, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose - the rest of the weight. Dilutions C12, C30 and C200 mean that the active substance in the drug is diluted 100 12, 100 30 and 100 200 times, respectively. According to the instructions, the active substance is an aqueous-alcoholic solution of antibodies to γ-interferon in a concentration of no more than 10–15 nanograms per gram. The mass of antibodies contained in the tablet should be 3·10−27 grams. Moreover, the mass of one antibody molecule is significantly greater than the amount of active substance contained in one Anaferon tablet according to the manufacturer’s statement.

The molecular weight of class G immunoglobulin is 150 kDa, or one molecule has a mass of about 2.5·10−19 grams. The mass of homeopathic antibody dilutions declared by the manufacturer is 3 mg per tablet. Then 3 mg of the active substance contains 3·10−3 g × 10−24 = 3·10−27 g of antibodies (in the approximation that the active substance is only the C12 dilution). The ratio of the mass of the antibody in the tablet to the mass of one antibody molecule gives 3·10−27 ÷ 2.5·10−19 ~ 10−8 molecules. Thus, the probability that a given tablet contains at least one molecule of the active substance is negligible (about 10 −8)

Modern research methods are not able to confirm or refute the presence of such small quantities of the substance in the drug. Accordingly, the drug Anaferon violates one of the requirements for medicinal products - compliance with the same concentration of the active substance in the drug.

A simple calculation shows that one molecule of this active substance is contained in one hundred million tablets. Probably, Materia Medica produces about the same amount and the same amount is bought in pharmacies by people who care about their health and the health of their children.

Repeat the treatment two or three times in a row." (“A Closet for Ladies and Gentlewoman”, 1611)

For a modern person, this recipe for treating fever will only cause a smile and purely historical interest. Nowadays, hardly anyone would risk being treated with warm manure or fish teeth, rightly considering these remedies to be useless. However, is the difference between modern man and our ancestors, who relied on the recipes of medieval healers, really so great?

In the vast majority of cases, fever is a sign cold or flu. And in most cases, the local therapist will prescribe a course of the extremely popular drug Anaferon in Russia as treatment. In 2009, Anaferon's sales volume came close to 1.5 billion rubles. What do patients receive in exchange for this astronomical amount?

Anaferon is the first strange thing. Anaferon appeared on the market in 2002 as a result of research by a pharmaceutical company. By the way, the company itself arose in 1993, when “a group of enthusiastic scientists decided to make their dream come true: to develop and launch affordable and safe homeopathic medicines on the market.” If you still remember that time, then you understand that then it could only be about making money, but not about “intensive scientific research.”

Nevertheless, the company’s specialists were the first in Russia to begin mass production of complex homeopathic medicines, thereby radically distorting the basic principles homeopathic treatment. A few years later, this became so obvious that it even required changing the instructions for Anaferon.

Here is the current description from the manufacturer's website. Anaferon - lozenges. A drug for the safe treatment and effective prevention of influenza and ARVI. Active components: affinity purified antibodies to human gamma interferon - 0.003 g (administered in the form of an aqueous-alcohol mixture of the active form of the active substance containing no more than 10^-15 ng/g of the active substance). Excipients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate.

But on the Internet you can find another, old, description of “Anaferon”. Homeopathic lozenges. Ingredients: affinity purified antibodies to human interferon gamma - a mixture of homeopathic dilutions C12, C30 and C200, excipients: lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate.

What's the matter? Why did any mention of the homeopathic properties of the drug disappear from the description? It turns out that in the fall of 2009, after reviewing new data regarding the mechanism of action of the drug, the manufacturer decided that homeopathy was not suitable for Anaferon! That is, for seven years the manufacturer was simply confident in the homeopathic properties of Anaferon, and then - suddenly it was cut off. There is no homeopathy here! But the composition of the tablets and production technology remained the same! They are more difficult and more expensive to change than the content of the description. And why?

Anaferon is the second strange thing. Numerous studies have proven that interferon has antiviral and immunostimulating effects. Likewise, it has been proven that in some cases, when interferon is used, specific antibodies are formed in the body, which reduce the effectiveness of interferon treatment. And this immune response most often forces you to stop using interferon. That is, antibodies to interferon contained (maybe?) in Anaferon can only cause inhibition of the action of endogenous human interferon. To increase the production of one's own interferon, interferon inducers are used, to which Anaferon refers no more than any other consonant word.

Anaferon is the third strangeness. The cost of the drug Anaferon is from 120 to 160 rubles per package of 20 tablets. The high cost of medications is most often explained by the high cost of the initial substance used for their manufacture. Often such a substance is not produced in Russia at all, and transportation and customs clearance costs are added to the price of the substance itself. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The main substance for Anaferon is lactose. Anyone can buy it, whether imported or domestic. The imported price is 70-80 rubles for a small bag weighing 25 kg.

Oh yes! There's also “antibodies to human interferon gamma, affinity purified”. The production technology involves immunizing rabbits with recombinant human interferon gamma, after which the desired antibodies are isolated from the rabbit's blood serum on an adsorption column. Need a rabbit farm? Difficult and expensive?

Let's approach this from a different angle. One molecule of precious antibodies has a mass of about 2.5x10^−19 grams, and one tablet contains about 3x10^−27 grams. It is not difficult to calculate that the entire annual production of Anaferon requires only about four molecules! From one rabbit you can extract antibodies for the next couple of million years of production. Our rabbit farm quietly deflated.

And in the end - the sale of milk sugar at a price of 30 thousand rubles per kilogram. The drug business nervously smokes on the sidelines, arms dealers are choking with saliva from envy, the oligarchs of the fuel and energy complex feel like beggars. Almost 1,000,000% (million percent!) profit - and everything is legal!

Anaferon is the fourth strangeness. Why is Anaferon so popular, especially among pediatricians? The answer to this question is also logical.

I will write useful but easy recipes. Well, for example, natrii salicilici 0.5, one powder three times a day... “You can prescribe soda!” - my internal interlocutor responded, clearly mocking. (M. Bulgakov. Notes of a young doctor).

I must say that even the malicious inner voice did not think of prescribing sugar for patients. Nevertheless, Anaferon is an ideal medicine. Its appointment does not threaten the slightest complications, and colds, as you know, go away within a week. With pills, however, seven days in advance.

On the official website of Anaferon, a frightened father asked: “My child ate a whole package of Anaferon, what should I do?” “Don’t do anything, no one has ever died from 3 grams of sugar,” was the meaning of the manufacturer’s response.

A much more interesting question is how did Anaferon get on the list of vital and essential medicines? But the answer to this question lies far beyond medical expediency.

Anaferon is the fifth strangeness. There is not a single imported analogue of a drug that is so beneficial for Russian people. In the 10 years since the appearance of Anaferon, not a single foreign pharmaceutical company has become interested in it. That is, despite the fact that viral diseases occur all over the world, treatment with the highly effective and safe drug Anaferon is accepted only in Russia.

Therefore, the next time you go to the pharmacy for Anaferon, think - is it worth it? Believe me, this drug can be successfully replaced with much more effective and tasty cranberries in sugar. And allow Anaferon, as well as other equally “effective” drugs, for example, Artrofoon, Afale, Dietress, Impaze, Proproten-100, Tenoten, Ergoferon, to take their rightful place in the “Curiosities and Misconceptions” section of the textbook on the history of medicine.

Oleg Antonov

  1. Ergoferon, anaferon and other bullshit. How they deceive us.

Spring is the time for colds and viral infections. But if you go to the pharmacy, you will find that on the shelf with antiviral drugs, about half of the contents are dummies that have nothing to do with drugs. Pharma scammers are making billions off your gullibility.

Well, there are still Russian drugs developed during perestroika, which do not have evidence of effectiveness according to international standards of evidence-based medicine, but only a few domestic works (we are talking about the notorious Arbidol and, for example, cycloferon), but on the shelves there are many products that, by definition, are not medicines or antiviral drugs , if only simply because they have no active ingredients, they are dummies. We are talking about homeopathy such as anaferon, oscillococcinum, aflubin and ergoferon. And if, according to the first two information on the Internet, there is a sea (yes, just look at Wikipedia: Oscillococcinum, Anaferon), then let’s look at ergoferon in more detail. You can read his instructions, it is a very entertaining activity.

A small digression. We are talking about homeopathy, which has many active supporters (although it would be more correct to say adherents, or believers). Let's dot the i's:

The scientific community regards homeopathy as a scam, citing the lack of scientific basis for this method of treating diseases. The theoretical basis for the homeopathic principle does not correspond to scientific ideas about the functioning of a healthy and sick body, and clinical trials of homeopathic medicines have not revealed any differences between homeopathic medicines and placebos. Trivial calculations show that drugs in dilutions of 12C and higher most likely do not contain a single molecule of the active substance.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns against homeopathic treatment of infectious and any other serious diseases. As the organization’s experts note, “the use of homeopathy has no evidence base, and in cases where it is used as an alternative to basic treatment, it poses a real threat to people’s health and lives.”

We read the composition of Ergoferon - everything is beautiful, convincing, and the doses are serious:

    active substances:
antibodies to human γ-interferon, affinity purified 0.006 g*
affinity purified antibodies to histamine 0.006 g*
    antibodies to CD4 affinity purified 0.006 g*
Everything seems to be fine, but something is confusing. What kind of star is this? And this is a footnote, and below is its transcript, printed, of course, in small, small font. Oh, those footnotes and small print... It's high time to equate such methods with fraud.

    * applied to lactose in the form of a mixture of three active aqueous-alcoholic dilutions of the substance, diluted 10012, 10030, 10050 times, respectively.

Stop, stop, stop! That is, if you roughly calculate, it turns out that one molecule of the active substance is contained in one hundred million tablets? In other words, the probability of encountering the active substance in a tablet is less than the probability of being killed by a meteorite! It turns out that for 200-300 rubles you buy only the excipients that make up the tablet: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, which do not have any medicinal properties.

Read on. In the description of pharmacological activity, the expression “ components included in the drug", and there is a description about them " It has been experimentally proven that:" Please note: we are talking about the components of the drug (antibodies, which, as we found out, are simply not in it), and not about the drug itself as a whole. Against this background, the phrase “ The combined use of the components of a complex drug is accompanied by an increase in the antiviral activity of its components."looks like a mockery. Yes, I understand that these antibodies have therapeutic efficacy, but how does this relate to your drug?

    Well, the most masterpiece:

    Pharmacokinetics
The sensitivity of modern physicochemical methods of analysis (gas-liquid chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) does not allow assessing the content of ultra-low doses of antibodies in biological fluids, organs and tissues, which makes it technically impossible to study the pharmacokinetics of the drug Ergoferon.

Of course, it is difficult to find a black cat in a dark room if it is not there.

It’s a shame that these obviously unrelated substances are found in pharmacies among medications, and bring their fraudulent creators billions of dollars in profits from gullible Pinocchio buyers.

pharmachologic effect

When used prophylactically and therapeutically, the drug has an immunomodulatory and antiviral effect. Experimentally and clinically established effectiveness against influenza viruses, parainfluenza, herpes simplex viruses types 1 and 2 (labial herpes), other herpes viruses (varicella, infectious mononucleosis), enteroviruses, tick-borne encephalitis virus, rotavirus, coronavirus, calicivirus, adenovirus , respiratory syncytial (PC virus). The drug reduces the concentration of the virus in the affected tissues, affects the system of endogenous interferons and associated cytokines, induces the formation of endogenous “early” interferons (IFN α/β) and interferon gamma (IFN γ).

Stimulates the humoral and cellular immune response. Increases the production of antibodies (including secretory IgA), activates the functions of T-effectors, T-helpers (Tx), normalizes their ratio. Increases the functional reserve of Tx and other cells involved in the immune response. It is an inducer of a mixed Tx1- and Th2-type immune response: it increases the production of Th1 (IFN γ, IL-2) and Th2 (IL-4, 10) cytokines, normalizes (modulates) the balance of Th1/Th2 activities. Increases the functional activity of phagocytes and natural killer cells (NK cells). Has antimutagenic properties.

Pharmacokinetics

Anaferon - Loved! I love and will continue to love))) An excellent antiviral drug, it helped me always and everywhere, despite the fact that sometimes I forgot to take it according to the regimen prescribed by the doctor or started taking it when the disease had already seriously progressed, but it always coped with the task assigned to him.

    Anatoly | 20:16 | 15.02.2018

    In a word, bullshit

    Farida | 21:10 | 30.11.2017

People! Anaferon is an artificial interferon. The human body begins to produce its own interferon on the third day from the onset of the disease. Then there may be no symptoms.

    Irina | 13:57 | 21.09.2017

Anaferon is very suitable for ignorant doctors!! They took it and it didn’t help, which means they started taking it too late. They took it and got sick - the virus has mutated and this is a new stamp.

    Zhanna | 16:45 | 21.08.2017

Anaferon is homeopathy, although it was registered as medicine. But registration is one thing, but actually working medicine is another. It's high time to remove it from pharmacy shelves so that people don't buy pacifiers!!

    Elena | 16:56 | 25.07.2017

I don’t consider Anaferon a medicine and am waiting for it to be removed from the shelves of pharmacies, so as not to deceive people by selling them an ordinary pacifier instead of a medicine.

    Marina | 11:13 | 09.06.2017

All these ferons are nonsense, ordinary bullshit, and anaferon is in the same list, I don’t even want to discuss it.

    Kira | 12:25 | 25.05.2017

The manufacturer of Anaferon registered his brainchild as a drug, while for their preparation he borrowed the basic principle of homeopathy - repeated dilution, up to the complete absence of the active substance. There is no mention that this is homeopathy...
