DIY Firebird: step-by-step master class for children on making panels from natural materials.

DIY Firebird

Materials and tools for making DIY “Firebird” crafts

To make the firebird we will need:

— Colored cardboard

— Firebird stencil for applique (you can draw it yourself or download a ready-made one)

— Plasticine

— Natural materials.

We used natural materials in the firebird applique:

- ash seeds,

- flax seeds,

- buckwheat,

- bird feathers.

You can use whatever you see fit in making crafts. For example, make your firebird only from cereals or only from seeds.

How to make a firebird from natural materials with your own hands: step-by-step description

The Firebird is made in mixed media with elements of plasticineography and appliqué using a ready-made stencil.

How to do it with children:

Step 1. Apply the firebird stencil to colored cardboard and trace it.

Step 2. Fill the template with plasticine. To do this, tear off small pieces of plasticine and form small balls. We spread the balls on the cardboard with a stack or with our fingers, filling the firebird template with a thin layer of plasticine. We try not to go beyond the boundaries of the drawing so as not to leave stains.

Step 3. Glue ash seeds onto the silhouette of the firebird, starting from the tail. We form the wings. The body of the bird can be decorated with seeds or cereals. Instead of ash seeds, you can use willow leaves, they are also thin. The panel is ready!

The second option for making a firebird with your own hands

You will learn another option for making a very original three-dimensional 3D craft “Firebird” with your own hands together with children from natural materials in the master class

We wish you pleasant moments of creativity and inspiration! See you again on the “Native Path”!

Progress of the lesson.

Guys, let's imagine that we are in the forest. There's so much here! Listen to the sounds of the forest.

(the disc “Sounds of the Forest” plays).

The inhabitants of the forest are very different: some jump in the trees, others walk and crawl on the ground. There are also those who hide in the thicket of the forest. Someone can be seen in a forest clearing.

You need to be quiet in the forest so as not to disturb its inhabitants. After all, the forest is their home, and we come there to visit.

Now listen carefully to the riddles and guess them.

Not a mouse, not a bird,

frolicking in the forest,

Lives in the trees

And he keeps nibbling on nuts. (Squirrel)

In summer he walks without a road

Near the pines and birches,

And in winter he sleeps in a den,

Hides your nose from the frost. (Bear)

Angry touchy-feely

Lives in the wilderness of the forest,

There are a lot of needles

And not just one thread. (Hedgehog)

What a dangerous beast

Walks around in a red fur coat,

The snow is shoveling away

There are enough mice. (Fox)

Flies all night -

Gets mice.

And it will become light -

Sleep flies into the hollow. (Owl)

Well done, you guessed all the riddles correctly. Who guessed who we'll do today? (children's answers)

So, today you will make an animal or bird craft from ash and maple seeds.

Guys, please look at the board and pay attention to how the work samples are made. Especially how small details are made, such as paws and eyes.

Now choose a template for an animal or bird figurine.

Listen to how we will work.

  1. First you need to trace the template on cardboard.
  2. Fill the animal's head with plasticine by smearing it on cardboard.
  3. We make a plasticine base (body in the form of rollers).
  4. Let's make the body, we will start not from the muzzle, but from the end of the body. We attach the seeds to the plasticine base sequentially.
  5. We finish the small details (eyes, paws).
  6. Those who wish can decorate their crafts with dry leaves.

Give free rein to your imagination and get to work.

Children love such panels, more than just flower arrangements, here are examples for inspiration, but of course the material that you prepared in the summer and autumn will tell you who it wants to turn into - a butterfly or a deer, a lion or a fish . A lion cub, a goldfish, a turtle, a wise owl... these and many other images can be brought to life using various natural materials.

Lion cub made of bones and sawdust in the grass

Who is this hiding in the thick grass here? A shaggy mane, strong paws and a tail with a tassel appeared. This little lion cub decided to play with you. You shouldn't be afraid of him, because the lion cub is fabulous. And if you look closely, you will see that the fluffy mane is melon and watermelon seeds, and the shaggy fur is simple sawdust!

Necessary materials:

A sheet of white paper, light orange sizoflor A4 size, sawdust, watermelon seeds, melons, fern leaves, two “scales” from a pine cone, one chestnut, plastic eyes, black and red velvet paper, scissors, PVA glue.

Secure the light orange sisoflora with glue on white paper. Cut several small leaves from the green and dark brown leaves of the fern, place them at the bottom of the background, and secure with glue.

To make the figure of a lion cub, use stencils of the body with legs, muzzle, mane and tail.

Cut out the pieces from cardboard and arrange them sequentially.

Carefully grease the silhouette of the body with legs with glue and fill with sawdust. Also design the muzzle (circle).

For the details of the muzzle, use two “scales” of a pine cone - these will be the ears; plastic beads - eyes; chestnut - spout; Cut out the “pads”, antennae and mouth from velvet paper.

Carefully fill the wavy contour of the mane with glue, secure the watermelon and melon seeds on it.

Tail - sawdust; brush – melon and watermelon seeds.

Place the prepared parts on the main background and secure with glue.

Wise owl made from elm seeds and pine cone scales

A smart owl sits high on a tree. Her beautiful, fluffy feathers shimmer in the moonlight.

Our owl is fabulous, and, of course, its feathers are unusual. Each feather is an elm seed. And the wings are scales from pine cones.

Necessary materials:

White sheet of A4 paper, elm seeds, pine cone and twig, apricot kernels, physalis lanterns, scissors, PVA glue.

Start your appliqué by drawing out the head and body of the owl. Light feathers - elm seeds - secure with glue. To do this, carefully apply glue to the surface of a white sheet and glue one seed to it. Gradually you will get a silhouette of a head with ears and a body.

The seeds do not have to be glued tightly - then they will slightly move away from the background and even more resemble the fluffy feathers of an owl.

To make the owl's wings, you will need a pine cone.

A large cone with large “scales” that can be easily cut off with scissors is suitable for work.

Place “scales” on both sides of the owl’s body and secure with glue.

For the eyes, the centers of physalis with bright berries are suitable, which are also secured with glue. The beak is a petal of an exotic plant. The paws are apricot pits.

You can decorate the applique with a pine branch on which an owl sits and carefully watches us.

Birch bark squirrel

A nimble squirrel jumps along tree branches. She needs to hurry - autumn is coming. Cones, acorns, nuts - the thrifty squirrel will have time to collect everything. It will be so warm and cozy in the hollow in the cold winter!

Necessary materials:

A green sheet of paper, light orange A4 sizoflora, dried oak leaves, larch branches with cones, acorns, birch bark, a plastic eye, a black button, scissors, PVA glue.

Secure the light orange sisoflora with glue on a green sheet of paper. Place a larch sprig at the bottom of the leaf. Place the oak leaves along the edges of the background so that the right side remains free. Complete the applique with acorns.

Prepare the details for the squirrel image from birch bark. Please note that for work you will need not the front side, but the back side of the birch bark. She has a light brown color. Small oval – head; large oval - body; two triangles - ears; two paws. The peculiarity of the image of a squirrel is its volume. Try to choose the most twisted part of the birch bark for the tail. Lay out all the details on the background and secure them in sequence. Apply glue only to the protruding edges of the birch bark. It will take enough time for the glue to dry. Complete the image with a plastic eye and a nose - a black button.

When the work is completed, frame it with a voluminous paper frame. One side of the frame can be decorated with small larch branches; they will become a continuation of the branches from the picture.

Hedgehog made from maple seeds and pine cone scales

You weren't the only one who managed to find a fungus in the autumn forest. A little hedgehog, running among the trees, noticed an aspen boletus and hurried to take it to its hole.

Necessary materials:

White sheet of paper, light green sizoflor A4 size, green maple “spouts”, leaf branches, orange petal of an exotic plant (from the “Sachet” set), elm leaf, ash seeds, oak leaf, five “scales” from a pine cone, scissors , PVA glue.

Secure the light green sisoflora with glue on a white sheet of paper. At the bottom of the sheet, make an image of a hedgehog. Cut the elm leaf into two halves. Half of the sheet is the body of a hedgehog. Secure the part with glue. The spines are ash seeds, which are carefully secured with glue on half an elm leaf. Cut two protruding parts from an oak leaf. Use one part for the hedgehog's face, the other for the mushroom stem. Secure the parts with glue.

The paws and nose of a hedgehog are the “scales” of a pine cone. The mushroom cap is the orange petal of an exotic plant.

At the top of the sheet, make images of Christmas trees from the “spouts” of the maple tree. Twigs from leaves will serve as tree trunks. Secure the parts with glue.

Turtle and palm tree made from leaves and seeds

Hot Africa... A turtle moves slowly under the scorching rays of the sun. She wants to hide from the sun under the large leaves of a palm tree.

Necessary materials:

White sheet of paper, light yellow sizoflor A4 size, large yellow aspen leaf, oak leaf, ash seeds, pistachio shells, pine cone “scales”, maple “spouts”, leaf cuttings, apricot kernel, corn seed, scissors, PVA glue.

Secure the light yellow sisoflora with glue on a white sheet of paper. At the bottom of the composition, make an image of a turtle. An aspen leaf is suitable for the shell. Its wavy edge resembles the curve of a shell. Cut three protruding parts from an oak leaf. One of them is the elongated neck of a turtle. From the other two, cut off small arcs - the turtle's legs.

An apricot kernel is suitable for the head, and a corn seed is suitable for the eye.

Make tall mounds from leaf cuttings, bend them slightly. In our picture they will look like wavy lines.

Complete the image with tall grasses, for which ash seeds are suitable.

Use the “scales” of a pine cone to form a palm tree trunk. For palm leaves, maple “spouts” are suitable. And large coconuts are pistachio shells.

Use oak leaves to depict clouds.

Secure all parts with glue.

Monkey on a palm tree made of flowers and fruits

A mischievous monkey jumps from palm tree to palm tree. Her tenacious paws hold tightly to the trunk of the palm tree. But you still need to enjoy ripe bananas!

Necessary materials:

A sheet of thick cardboard, A4 size, yellow paper measuring 20 x 30 cm, dried fern leaves, persimmon seeds, watermelon seeds, apricot kernels, birch bark, two chestnut fruits, one prickly chestnut shell, two orange flowers from the “Sachet” set, two “scales” from a pine cone, two beads, a red thread 1 cm long, a brown thread 6 cm long, PVA glue, a wooden frame measuring 20 x 30 cm.

Glue the yellow paper onto the cardboard. Make a palm tree trunk from persimmon seeds and apricot kernels and secure with glue.

Decorate the background with green fern leaves and secure with glue. Orange flowers are bananas.

Make a monkey's face from two chestnuts and secure with glue. Wait for the glue to dry.

Monkey ears are the “scales” of a pine cone. The eyes are beads, the mouth is a string. The body is the prickly shell of a chestnut tree. Paws - watermelon seeds. The tail is a brown thread. Secure the parts with glue. Place the finished work in a wooden frame.

Firebird made from seeds and petals

The bright tail of multi-colored feathers of the firebird dazzles with its beauty. It’s a pity that such an unusual bird can only be found in fairy tales. But perhaps in a real forest, among the tree trunks, the motley tail of this magical bird will flash?

Necessary materials:

Tree mushroom, melon seeds, dry blades of grass, apricot kernels, petals from the Sachet set, corn kernels, an ear of corn, two beads, PVA glue, a piece of plasticine, a toothpick, scissors.

Clean the wood fungus from dust - this will be the bird's tail. Glue the petals from the Sachet set along the edge of the mushroom. Fill the empty spaces with melon seeds and corn kernels. Place apricot kernels inside the mushroom and secure with glue.

Cut dry blades of grass into two centimeters. Then arrange the resulting pieces of grass blades in the direction from each seed to the petals, secure with glue.

Cut off the top part of the corn cob - this will be the body of the bird. Head and beak - dried petal, secure it with glue to the body. Two beads - eyes.

Attach a small piece of plasticine to the back of the head. Cut the toothpick into three parts. At the end of each of them, attach a kernel of corn.

Place the prepared parts - the crest of the bird - on the back of the head to a piece of plasticine.

Attach the body with plasticine to the tail of the bird.

Autumn bird made from leaves and seeds

Autumn leaves are swirling... But it is not the trees that are throwing them off their branches. Flying across the sky, the autumn bird drops its magical feathers, which turn into colorful leaves. I wish I could see such a bird!

Necessary materials:

A white sheet of A4 paper, elm and laurel leaves, physalis lanterns, ash seeds, scissors, PVA glue.

In the center of the composition, make an autumn bird out of leaves. Large elm leaf – body. Laurel leaves - neck and wings. The head is a small bay leaf. Cut the physalis lantern into petals, from which you make the bird’s tail. Physalis petals can also decorate the wings of a bird. For the eye, use the cut out middle of the physalis.

Beak - ash seeds. Secure the parts with glue. For the bird's crown, use the fruit of an exotic plant.

Goldfish from a leaf

The sheet of paper turned into white sea foam, from which a goldfish peeked out, and then quickly disappeared into the waves, sparkling with its scales.

Necessary materials:

A white sheet of A4 paper, an elm leaf, ash and elm seeds, a lemon immortelle flower, a rowan berry, two pistachio shells, small seeds of field plants, pine needles, PVA glue.

In the center of the white sheet, glue a yellow elm leaf - the body of the fish - with glue. Make the fins and tail from transparent elm seeds. The fish's mouth is pistachio shells. The immortelle flower is the eye, and for the pupil use a rowan berry, which is secured with glue. To convey the wavy surface of the bottom, use thin pine needles and oblong ash seeds. Water bubbles can be made from small seeds of field plants. Secure all parts with glue.

Poplar fluff lamb

Fluffy lamb, like a small cloud on the green grass. It’s as if the heavenly fluffs came up with his design. And you almost guessed it - this picture was created thanks to poplar fluff.

Poplar fluff is collected in early summer. A light breeze is enough for all the streets to be covered with it, like snow flakes. But do not rush to collect such poplar fluff, because it may be stained with dust. It is better to remove earrings covered with fluff from the tree. Carefully remove dried seeds and scales so that only fluff remains in your hands. It is best to store poplar fluff in paper boxes. For the background use multi-colored velvet paper. But you don’t need glue to secure the fluff, because velvet paper firmly holds light fluff.

Necessary materials:

A sheet of green velvet paper measuring 20 x 20 cm, poplar fluff, black velvet paper, yellow ribbon in the shape of flowers.

In the center of the sheet, start making a drawing of a lamb. To do this, select small poplar fluffs, from which you lay out an oval - the body of the lamb. The fluffs are so soft that they easily attach to the velvet surface of the paper.

For the muzzle, gather the fluffs more tightly together to create a white silhouette. To depict the horns, lightly roll the poplar fluffs, then secure the horns on both sides of the muzzle. Cut out the hooves, eyes, and nose from black velvet paper.

Decorate the applique with yellow flower-shaped braid. Secure the parts with glue.

Since ancient times, Ash has been considered a conductor between worlds. Ash resurrected lives, endowed people with magical powers, and drove away evil spirits.

The tree united opposites and was an allegory of eternal life.

Ash wood was used in fortune telling. Amulets and magic runes were made from it.

In the old days in Scandinavia they believed that the gods lived in Asgard, a country above the clouds. In the middle of the country rises a huge Ash tree, growing through the worlds. An old tree named Ygdrazil holds up the firmament and covers the sacred spring with its roots.

If the tree dies, the transcendental kingdom will collapse, and the sacred waters will flood all living things.

names of ash

Ash received its name due to the type of crown. Despite the lush vegetation, the leaves of the Ash tree transmit a sufficient amount of sunlight, so it is always clear and light under the tree.

This property makes it possible to sunbathe under the crown for many hours on a bright sunny day and not be afraid of getting burned.

The Latin name for Ash is Fraxinus, which means “Ashes” in Latin.

Where does Ash grow?

There are 70 species of Ash in the world. The most common in our country is Common Ash.

The tree is found throughout Russia, in Crimea and the Caucasus. Various plant species can be found in North Africa and North America, Eurasia and the Far East.

Ash can be found in parks and gardens.

In the wild, this tall and stately tree prefers fertile, moderately moist soils. Often Ash can be found in the middle of a field or along a sandy road.

What does Ash look like?

Ash is a tall tree up to 30 meters in height with a lush crown. In the southern regions there are representatives up to 60 meters tall. The crown allows sunlight to pass through well thanks to its sharp and long leaves and sparse gnarled branches. The trunk volume reaches 1 meter.

The bark of the tree is ash-gray in color and is distinguished by its smoothness and unusual odor. The bark and leaves of this tree contain a substance called coumarin, which gives the tree the aroma of fresh hay. That is why a tired traveler can breathe easily and calmly under a tree.

In spring, Ash turns purple. After a few weeks, future fruits - lionfish - begin to form.

These flat storehouses of seeds will only fall to the ground in winter.

When does Ash bloom?

Flowering begins in April-May and lasts until the leaves bloom. Thanks to the large number of flowers and pollen, Ash is an excellent honey plant.

The fruits ripen in September or October and can remain on the branches until early spring, helping small birds from hunger. These fruits contain large amounts of fats and proteins.

The tree begins to bear fruit after an average of 25 years and can live up to 300 years. Ash leaves fall in late autumn, retaining their green color.

HEALING PROPERTIES OF ASH

The leaves, fruits, roots and bark of the tree are used for medicinal purposes.

A decoction of the roots relieves chronic respiratory diseases.

A decoction of the leaves has a sedative effect and is used in the treatment of disorders of the nervous system of the body.

Tea made from leaves or powder from Ash seeds has a diuretic effect.

An infusion of Ash leaves is a natural means of increasing male power.

In addition, preparations from Ash have tonic, hemostatic, antimicrobial, anthelmintic and other effects.

Application of Ash

Ash wood has a number of advantages compared to other species. Durable, light, moderately drying, wood has been used as a material for a wide variety of crafts for a long time.

Due to their flexibility, Ash branches served as an excellent material for bows of the Indians of North America. In Russia, Ash was used to make wheel rims, bend skis and rocker arms.

In modern industry, high impact strength has made it possible to use wood for various sports equipment. Ash is used to make billiard cues, baseball bats, racing oars, skis and even gymnastic bars.

Thanks to its beautiful pattern, Ash is used as veneer for cladding expensive furniture. When stained, veneer is difficult to distinguish from olive wood.

The high strength of wood makes it possible to produce railings, window frames, trim and furniture.

Ash is used for landscaping especially polluted areas of cities.

In the Caucasus, Ash fruits are pickled instead of capers and used as a seasoning.

Sweet Ash sap, like Maple sap, is a valuable source of sugar.

Contraindications

Despite all the benefits of fruits, bark and leaves, Ash is considered a poisonous plant, so it is necessary to use certain infusions and decoctions with great caution.

An overdose of Ash-based drugs may cause abdominal pain, hepatic colic, dizziness and nausea, so before using Ash to treat any ailments, consult a specialist.

Natural material goes well with homemade dough. Such combinations seem even more attractive. Today, together with us, we will create the Firebird.

For the magic we need:

  1. Container for preparing play dough
  2. Tree seeds (we used ash and ash maple seeds)
  3. Fluffy grass shoots
  4. Disposable plates or thick paper/cardboard
  5. Beads or colored paper

In the previous master class, we already wrote about how to prepare dough for modeling. Take flour and salt in a 1 to 1 ratio and mix. In practice, it is better to use coarse salt. Add a little water to the resulting mixture and knead.

When the dough comes away from your hands well, leave it to stand for 5-10 minutes and then you can safely sculpt.

We roll the dough into a shape in the shape of a bird's body, which we will use for further making our craft.

It is important that the dough is sufficiently dense, otherwise the head may fall forward when dry and become deformed.

Dough crafts can be placed on a disposable plastic plate, thick paper or any other surface convenient for you.

Then we make a comb from ash seeds, carefully inserting each element so as not to deform the head and neck of our workpiece, and we also make a beak from two of the same seeds.

To make eyes, you can use beads or colored paper.

From the seeds of the ash-leaved maple we make wings for our miracle bird.

It is best to insert the seeds sequentially from the tail to the head in an oblique direction.

Then we make a tail from fluffy grass shoots. The children liked this part of the creative work the most, because the bird immediately became big and beautiful.

Well, our magical firebird is ready. When it dries, you can decorate it and make a wish, and maybe it will come true!
