Flax is a well-known and widespread plant, and also quite ancient. It is, perhaps, the very first crop that people began to cultivate in Ancient Egypt and India. For ten thousand years, flax has faithfully served man: it feeds, clothes, warms, heals and, of course, strengthens the human body. Such a faithful and reliable assistant!

Flax is cultivated, but it has not been found in the wild for a long time - it is an annual herbaceous plant with alternate whole leaves, small blue flowers and a fruit - a box in which there are seeds so valuable for the human body, a total of 10 small, smooth, shiny, oblong, flattened seeds. The birthplace of this unique plant is considered to be China, India and the Mediterranean.

Since time immemorial, people have used the medicinal properties of flax seeds. Mention of this amazing plant can be found in ancient manuscripts of Egypt, in the works of Avicenna and Hippocrates, in the recipes of Tibetan doctors, even in the “Selection of Grand Duke Svyatoslav Yaroslavich”. At first, the seeds themselves were used for medicinal purposes, making decoctions, infusions, etc. from them. But a long time ago, man learned to extract oil from flax seeds.

It was not possible to reliably establish when flax appeared on the territory of Russia. It is known that back in the days of Kievan Rus, dishes for the festive table were prepared with linseed oil and flour, and in Dagestan the national dish - urbech, known for its delicious taste and aroma - was prepared from flax seeds, molasses and honey. Among the northeastern Slavs, linseed oil was, perhaps, the main vegetable oil among peasants for a very long time.

Unfortunately, flaxseed oil was forgotten for a long time when sunflower, corn and olive oils appeared, which were cheaper and more suitable for heat treatment. Flaxseed oil has a very low smoke point, which made it not only useless when heated, but even harmful, due to the carcinogens formed. But times are changing, and people have again paid attention to this wonderful oil. Recently, scientists have proven the extreme usefulness of this product for the human body, due to the presence of a huge amount of linolenic acid in this oil. The content of this polyunsaturated fatty acid in flaxseed oil is 2 times higher than in the well-known fish oil! Unsaturated fatty acids are not synthesized in the human body, but at the same time they are extremely necessary for it, as they play an important role in life processes. It is precisely these fats that are lacking in the food of modern man.

Scientists around the world have come to the unanimous conclusion that consuming flaxseed oil is a significant step towards improving the health of the body. This oil is increasingly used in medicine, even official medicine, cosmetology and, of course, in cooking. We hope that you will also fall in love with flaxseed oil by including it in your daily diet.

Composition of linseed oil

Let us dwell in more detail on the beneficial composition of flaxseed oil, since its value for the human body is due precisely to its rich composition.

  • Fats: Omega-3 (up to 60%), Omega-6 (about 20%), Omega-9 (about 10%), Saturated fatty acids (stearic, myristic and palmitic);
  • Vitamins: Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3 (vit. PP), Vitamin B4, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B9, Vitamin E (choline), Vitamin K, Vitamin F;
  • Macro- and microelements: potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, zinc;
  • And besides them also: Linamarin, Phytosterols, Squalene (up to 8%), Thioproline, Lecithin, Beta-carotene;

Despite the considerable list of components that make up natural flaxseed oil, the complex of poly- and monounsaturated fatty acids is still of particular value. Alpha-lenolenic acid (Omega-3) is irreplaceable and extremely necessary for our body. Unfortunately, in most food products it is either completely absent or present in very small quantities. Fish oil is known for its high content of this fatty acid. So, the content of unsaturated fatty acids in flaxseed oil is twice as high as in fish oil. This is such a unique oil! The Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and extensive experience in the use of flaxseed oil in the USA, Canada and Germany confirm the extreme usefulness of this oil for the human body.

The human brain is 60% fat, and it needs exclusively unsaturated fatty acids, which are present in large quantities in flaxseed oil. The calorie content of fats is very high, so many people struggle with the problem of excess weight by eliminating fats from their diet. This is by no means a way out! Unsaturated fatty acids are essential for the human body. Flaxseed oil will completely compensate for the deficiency of unsaturated fatty acids. In addition, Omega-3 and Omega-6, present in large quantities in flaxseed oil, help normalize both fat metabolism and metabolism in general. Are you overweight or obese? Include flaxseed oil in your diet. It will help solve the problem. Flaxseed oil will help reduce appetite by stimulating the satiety center, which makes dieting easier. In addition, this oil increases the speed of food passage and reduces the absorption rate in the intestines. Of course, you need to reduce the calorie intake of your diet and increase physical activity. Without fulfilling this indispensable condition, not a single remedy, even the most advanced one, can help you!

If you have diabetes, limit your intake of sugar and fat. With such a strict diet, the small amount of fat allowed must simply be obtained from unsaturated fatty acids, which are indispensable for the human body and are extremely necessary for it. Probably the best product for this purpose is flaxseed oil. Doctors have concluded that regular consumption of flaxseed oil reduces the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in patients with diabetes. A decrease in blood sugar levels has also been observed in type 2 diabetes. Of course, diabetes is not something to joke about, so consult with your doctor about the dose of flaxseed oil that is necessary for you personally.

Use of flaxseed oil in cooking

As a matter of fact, you can use flaxseed oil in cooking in the usual way, like any vegetable oil. In Rus' it was the main vegetable fat and with the advent of cheaper sunflower oil it was gradually forgotten. Only in recent years this oil began to reappear in the Russian diet. But, unfortunately, flaxseed oil has not yet become popular.

How should you use flaxseed oil in cooking in order to preserve its beneficial qualities as much as possible? Let us dwell on one, perhaps the most basic drawback of linseed oil - this oil does not tolerate prolonged heat treatment at all, losing almost all of its beneficial properties. For frying, boiling, stewing, simmering, etc. it is not worth using. Therefore, the most beneficial way for our health to use flaxseed oil in cooking is to add it to prepared dishes or salad dressings.

In addition, you can enhance the effect of flaxseed oil with certain products. Such allied products of flaxseed oil include honey, kefir, cottage cheese, yogurt, sauerkraut, beets, and carrots. These products help each other to be most fully absorbed, bringing maximum benefit to the human body. Consuming flaxseed oil with chicken or turkey meat, fish and rye bread promotes the production of the “happiness hormone” serotonin.

Feel free to add flaxseed oil to salads with fresh vegetables and vinaigrettes, boiled potatoes, and already prepared first and second courses. Add flaxseed oil to mayonnaise and sour cream, as well as other dressings and sauces.

Fresh, high-quality flaxseed oil has only a slight bitterness, which gives dishes a piquant taste! Try flaxseed oil and perhaps it will live in your refrigerator forever, replacing a bunch of medications and cosmetics.

Contraindications to the use of flaxseed oil

People suffering from cholelithiasis, acute cholecystitis and pancreatitis should take flaxseed oil with caution. You should not take flaxseed oil if you have severe diarrhea and inflammation of the cornea. Taking flaxseed oil is contraindicated when using antidepressants and antiviral drugs, as well as for women using oral contraceptives. People with chronic diseases should consult their physician before using this oil.

Linseed oil. These days, the beneficial properties of flaxseed oil have already become the talk of the town. And everyone who can at least in some way classify themselves as nutritionists, wellness trainers, cosmetologists, healers and other healers with and without diplomas, is happy to talk about the great healing power of flaxseed oil. Which, however, is not surprising...

Flaxseed oil is obtained from flax seeds of the “Curly” subspecies. For food purposes, the oil is squeezed out from the seeds by cold pressing, which allows us to talk about the maximum preservation of the beneficial substances contained in the plant (although it is still not possible to “extract” the entire “set of useful substances”). Next, the pressed oil is purified, which leads to its partial clarification, and bottled. The color of edible flaxseed oil ranges from golden to brown and depends greatly on the methods and degree of purification.

As for the history of flaxseed oil, this product can be found in the heritage of any people who were interested in ways to preserve longevity and beauty. The inhabitants of Ancient Rus' were no exception: it is known for certain that flaxseed oil was an integral part of Belarusian and Ukrainian cuisine for many centuries. However, this did not save him from almost a century of oblivion during the Soviet years.

Now, interest in flaxseed oil is gradually returning, which is greatly facilitated by modern research conducted by various scientific institutes and innovation centers...

Flaxseed oil and OMEGA 3

Over the past few decades, science has been able to figure out the purpose of many components of flaxseed oil, including polyunsaturated alpha-linolenic fatty acid from the omega-3 family.

By the way, flaxseed oil can contain up to 61% alpha-linolenic acid (at least 44%), 15-30% linoleic acid (omega-6), 13-29% oleic acid (omega-9) and 9-11% saturated fatty acids.

This amount of omega-3 acid is not found in any other product, including fish oil. Moreover, flaxseed oil contains twice as much omega-3 as the notorious fish oil. Although it is still not entirely correct to fully compare these two products, because fish oil contains eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids (EPA and DHA, respectively), and flaxseed oil contains alpha-linolenic acid. However, all of these acids belong to the omega-3 family of polyunsaturated fatty acids.

The benefits and harms of flaxseed oil

Centuries of observations of people who regularly consume flaxseed oil, as well as the latest research on this product, suggest that flaxseed oil helps:

  • strengthen the immune system
  • normalize hormonal levels (this applies to both men and women)
  • reduce the risk of cancer, especially in the breast, prostate and rectum (which allows us to judge which areas of the body are most susceptible to the positive effects of flaxseed oil)
  • cleanse the bloodstream of sclerotic plaques and all kinds of stagnation, reducing the risk of blockage of blood vessels leading to strokes and heart attacks
  • reduce blood viscosity and thereby increase blood flow (because of this, flaxseed oil is often classified as a potency enhancing agent)
  • normalize and stabilize blood pressure
  • Gradually lower your sugar levels (don’t expect quick results)
  • cleanse the intestines of toxins and thereby reduce body weight
  • improve metabolism (again, don’t expect instant results)
  • get rid of heartburn and discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract
  • speed up the nervous reaction and improve brain function
  • recover faster after physical activity
  • relieve symptoms of any joint and skin diseases, including arthritis, rheumatism, eczema and psoriasis
  • regulate the functioning of the kidneys, bladder and liver

Among other things, doctors strongly recommend that pregnant women also take advantage of the beneficial properties of flaxseed oil. Moreover, both for cosmetic purposes - to reduce the likelihood of stretch marks appearing, and in order to saturate the body with healthy fatty acids, which have a beneficial effect on the growing child’s body.

It should also be noted that when consuming flaxseed oil, cancer prevention occurs not only due to the “debugging” of the functions of the entire body, but also due to the neutralization of harmful breakdown products formed in the liver during the breakdown of certain hormones and substances. After all, flaxseed oil contains lignans, which are responsible for binding the aforementioned toxic breakdown products.

If we talk about the dangers of linseed oil, then it is highly not recommended to heat it. At all. Because this product is so unstable that it oxidizes even at room temperature, turning into a carcinogenic mixture.

And, of course, you shouldn’t overuse flaxseed oil. The maximum daily “portion” should not exceed 2 tablespoons (20 ml). Otherwise, you can end up with health problems.

And in general, for preventive purposes, it is better to add flaxseed oil to already cooked, cooled food. And for medicinal purposes, it is better to use it in the form and quantity recommended by a specialist.

Treatment with linseed oil

As for treatment with flaxseed oil, we will not give any recipes from traditional medicine or name drugs created on the basis of flaxseed oil. For this information, it is better to go to knowledgeable people: doctors, healers, healers and other experts on the human body. We will only indicate the diseases for which this product may be useful:

  • hypertension
  • hemorrhoids, colitis, gastritis, heartburn, constipation
  • obesity
  • stone formations in various organs
  • nervous disorders, depression, insomnia
  • hormonal disorders
  • any oncology
  • diseases of the circulatory system
  • inflammatory and autoimmune diseases

We have not listed the entire list of diseases that can be cured faster by consuming flaxseed oil, but the most relevant ones are on our list.

The main thing to remember: If you have any doubts regarding the medicinal properties of flaxseed oil, be sure to consult with specialists. Don’t try to play a game called “Maybe it will carry you through, help you, heal you...”.

Flaxseed oil contraindications

Like all other products, flaxseed oil has contraindications. The most obvious and dangerous contraindications include any ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract (stomach, duodenum), acute phases of diseases of the pancreas and liver.

Flaxseed oil in cooking

The most useful way to use flaxseed oil is to dress raw salads. Although it can be added to any cold or warm dishes, including heat-treated cereals, vegetables, meat and fish dishes, soups and cottage cheese. The main thing is to add the oil immediately before use.

Flaxseed oil should be purchased exclusively in dark bottles. Ideally in glass. However, be aware that after opening the bottle, flaxseed oil is only edible for a month, regardless of where and how you store it. After this it is better to throw it away. So be careful and don’t try to save money by buying oil in large containers.

Flaxseed oil is produced from the seeds of the flax plant, preserving their beneficial properties. This product is not particularly popular, although it surpasses many vegetable oils in its qualities.

History and geography of the product

Flax is an ancient culture. Its remains were found during excavations of the Neolithic layer. Archaeologists testify that flax was also grown in ancient times in Asia Minor, China, India, and Transcaucasia.

Flax and linseed oil have always been popular in Rus'. Flax is one of the most common plants, the production of which was established several centuries ago. Flax crops were significant, and linseed oil was a valuable trade item. The ancient Russian chronicler Nestor in his imperishable work "The Tale of Bygone Years" mentioned that monastery lamps were filled with linseed oil.

Types and varieties

Most often, flaxseed oil is used in its natural, liquid state. For medical purposes, capsules with flaxseed oil are sometimes used.

Flaxseed oil, like any vegetable oil, depending on the type of processing, can be:
unrefined
Refined
Hydrated
Deodorized

The most natural is unrefined oil that is freed from impurities only by settling and filtering without the use of other substances. Its disadvantage is a fairly short shelf life and the formation of natural sediment. But unrefined oil has the most beneficial properties.

Hydration- This is the treatment of oil with hot water and steam to remove substances that give sediment. It retains beneficial qualities and is stored longer.

Refined flaxseed oil is chemically treated, after which the fatty acids in it are neutralized.

Deodorization is possible only after refining, so the oil becomes more pleasant in taste and smell.

In addition, flaxseed oil is classified according to the method of its production. It may be pressed or extracted.

Pressed The oil is made from flax seeds under high pressure. If you first fry the seeds, the oil yield will be greater, but cold pressing allows you to extend the shelf life of flaxseed oil and preserve the beneficial substances as much as possible.

Extraction is a method of obtaining oil that involves the use of various solvents. Subsequently, this linseed oil is subjected to refining.

Unrefined, cold-pressed flaxseed oil is considered the most beneficial.

Useful properties

The most valuable substances in flax seed oil are polyunsaturated fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6. They play a vital role in the functioning of our body, but they enter it only from the outside. In addition, it contains magnesium, potassium, calcium, lecithin, fiber, B vitamins, and other useful microelements.

Regular consumption of oil has the following effects on the body:
Improves the functioning of the circulatory and cardiovascular systems, reduces the likelihood of blood clots, lowers blood pressure
Reduces cholesterol levels
Supports immunity
Helps normalize the activity of the reproductive and nervous systems
Prevents breast cancer
Normalizes hormonal levels in women and restores potency in men
Helps treat asthma
Nourishes the brain
Eliminates constipation

Flaxseed oil is especially useful for women; it is not without reason that it is called "female product". You can lose weight with flaxseed oil if you replace it with other vegetable oils. It is recommended for vegetarians as a replacement for animal fats.

Taste qualities

If you buy good quality flaxseed oil, you will hardly smell it. It tastes slightly like fish oil due to the fatty acids that are also included in its composition. A slight bitterness in the taste of flaxseed oil is allowed, but it should be distinguished from rancidity.

Strong unpleasant bitterness is a sign of improper storage of flaxseed oil or its expiration date.

Use in cooking

Flaxseed oil is a product that should be consumed fresh. Therefore, its most popular use in cooking is dressing vegetable salads. This product goes well with other vegetable oils, and if you don’t like the taste of flaxseed oil, mix it with sunflower or olive oil. Vinaigrettes, salads made from fresh vegetables and sauerkraut will only benefit from the addition of flaxseed oil. When combined with some spices, these dishes don’t even need to be salted. You can add flaxseed oil to porridge.

Flaxseed oil is a product unique in its properties. It has healing properties, due to which it is widely used in medicine and cosmetology. Unlike synthetic drugs, it does not just treat a particular organ, but heals the entire body as a whole, normalizes the functioning of all its systems and functions.

When used correctly, flax seed oil can solve several dozen problems: both in terms of diseases and disorders associated with weakened hair, nails or facial skin. Our ancestors were well aware of the almost miraculous power of this vegetable fat, and widely used it in everyday life.

The oil is extracted from flax seeds through cold pressing. At the same time, all its healing properties are preserved (the fats contained in flaxseed oil are destroyed at high temperatures, so heat treatment is not used in this production). Ready-made flaxseed oil contains a huge amount of useful substances:

  • polyunsaturated acids Omega-3 and Omega-6;
  • vitamins A, B, E, F, K;
  • oleic Omega-9 acid;
  • saturated fatty acids.

The nutritional value of flaxseed oil is higher than that of any other vegetable or animal fat. For example, the amount of Omega-3 in it is 60% of the total mass. Despite the fact that fish oil, which has long been considered practically a panacea for a host of diseases, contains only 30% of this substance. But it can stop inflammatory processes, which are often one of the causes of the disease.

In order for any product to be beneficial to the body, the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids must be approximately 2-3 times greater than Omega-6 acids. In fact, the opposite is true: in most “health” diets, the ratio of these substances is 1 to 7, which leads to various inflammations and disorders.

When used correctly, flaxseed oil can solve many problems - from digestive disorders to problems of the heart and blood vessels. However, before taking flaxseed oil for medicinal purposes, you should consult your doctor. Even this miracle remedy has contraindications.

Help for the heart

One of the main causes of heart problems is the buildup of cholesterol plaques on blood vessels. This reduces the elasticity of veins and capillaries, increasing the risk of heart attack, atherosclerosis, stroke and many other diseases. You can solve the problem with proper nutrition, or more precisely, by adding flaxseed oil to your regular diet. When used correctly it:

  • reduces cholesterol levels;
  • reduces blood viscosity;
  • reduces the risk of blood clots and, accordingly, stroke;
  • prevents the development of coronary heart disease and hypertension;
  • reduces the risk of developing myocardial infarction.

You need to take 1 tbsp of oil. l. 2 times a day, during meals. Admission period is 30-45 days. After this, take a three-week break and repeat the course again.

If high cholesterol is accompanied by hypertension, then the daily dose is 4 tsp. (20 g): 2 an hour before lunch and 2 before bed.

Flaxseed oil for gastrointestinal problems

Digestive or intestinal disorders are usually associated with a lack of certain acids or fats in the body. Flaxseed oil helps with problems such as gastritis, heartburn, colitis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, liver disease, and intestinal infections. In these cases, it is taken together with fermented milk products.

You need to take yogurt, kefir or fermented baked milk (preferably made from natural, not reconstituted, milk) and add 1 tbsp to it. l. linseed oil. You can sweeten the drink with a little honey. Thanks to its healing properties, there will be no harm. This medicine should be taken chilled, 1 hour before going to bed. For children, the dose is reduced to 0.5 tbsp. l.

For some diseases, flax seed oil is contraindicated. These are urinary cholelithiasis and pancreatic dysfunction. It should also not be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

For constipation

Frequent constipation is usually associated with gastrointestinal diseases, but their treatment method is somewhat different. There are 2 ways to take flaxseed oil for constipation:

  • along with food;
  • rectally using an enema.

In the first case, the oil is not drunk, but mixed with vegetable salads or purees. The dosage for adults is 1 tbsp. l. twice a day, during meals (best during lunch and dinner). For children who are given flaxseed oil, the dosage is calculated depending on their age. Children from 1 to 4 years old can be given 0.5 tsp; up to 10 years – 1 tsp. If necessary, you can add oil to vegetable puree for babies: no more than 16 drops.

Flaxseed oil should not be given to babies under 6 weeks of age, as it may harm their health.

The second option requires 50-100 ml of linseed oil. It is drawn into a bulb or syringe and slowly injected into the intestines. After the procedure, you need to lie down for 10-15 minutes so that the liquid does not spill out. The advantage of this treatment is that the oil gently envelops the intestinal walls and relaxes them. However, if emptying does not occur, after 10 hours you need to do a cleansing enema of cool water.

For healthy skin

Flax seed oil has a powerful effect on skin diseases. It can be used as an external remedy for a variety of psoriasis, calluses, and skin rashes. To do this, it is applied undiluted to a previously cleaned diseased area. The procedure must be repeated twice a day.

Flaxseed oil also helps with shallow burns. For greater effectiveness, it is diluted with lime water in equal proportions or mixed with beaten egg. For 1 egg there is 50 grams of butter.

Protecting your sexual health

Our ancient ancestors knew how beneficial flaxseed oil is for women. To this day, it is used to treat many female diseases, such as female infertility, endometriosis, and cysts. It helps with menopause, menopause and menstrual pain. In this regard, it is generally irreplaceable, since it normalizes the menstrual cycle. Its regular consumption reduces the risk of breast cancer.

It’s hard to believe, but flax oil also helps maintain hormonal balance at a normal level. It is better to ask your doctor how to use it, since there are contraindications for its use: for example, pregnancy or breastfeeding.

This vegetable fat is no less useful for men. Preventive consumption of flaxseed oil helps prevent inflammation of the prostate gland, and in case of an existing problem, relieves pain when urinating. Widely used in the treatment of male infertility and erectile dysfunction. The substances it contains improve sperm health and increase blood flow to the penis.
Daily consumption of 1 tbsp. l. oil or flax seed helps prevent the above problems.

How to lose weight with flaxseed oil

As a rule, obesity is associated with metabolic disorders in the body, so flaxseed oil can also be used for weight loss. This process will not be quick, since the effect is achieved by normalizing metabolism and does not imply instant weight loss. When it enters the bloodstream, the oil interacts with fat and breaks it down into water and glycerol. At the same time, it improves vascular patency; which means that decay products will be washed out of the body faster, without being deposited as a fatty layer.

To get rid of excess weight, doctors recommend taking flax oil on an empty stomach, twice a day: in the morning before breakfast and in the evening, before the last meal. You should start with 1 tsp. over the next week or two, increase the amount to 1 tbsp. l. The average course is about 2 months, although the exact period can only be determined by the attending physician.

For diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a very common disease in the 21st century. There are many medications and dietary restrictions that are designed to help such people not succumb to the disease. One of the substances that is especially useful for diabetes is flaxseed oil. Firstly, its regular use reduces the risk of developing diabetes several times. Secondly, it significantly alleviates symptoms if a person already has this disease.

Flaxseed oil improves metabolism, reduces cholesterol and glucose levels, which is especially important for diabetics. At the same time, it compensates for the lack of Omega-3 fatty acids.

There is no special recipe. The oil is simply added to food (usually vegetable salads) twice a day, morning and evening. You can also take them as a separate supplement: 1 tsp. 2 times a day. Gradually the dosage should be increased to 2 tsp. per dose, and continue this way for 3-4 months. After this, you need to take a break for at least a week, and you can start the course again.

Instead of a dentist

This vegetable fat is indispensable for problems with the oral cavity. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, flaxseed oil is excellent for laryngitis, stomatitis, tonsillitis, caries, gum inflammation and even sore throat.

The dosage in such cases is 1 tsp. in one go. It is necessary to take a little into the mouth and, without swallowing, allow it to be absorbed into the oral mucosa.

How to boost immunity with flaxseed oil

This product can be used to maintain your health. Doctors prescribe it during the postoperative recovery period: it promotes infection of wounds and reduces the risk of inflammation. Considering that the antibacterial properties of flaxseed oil are very great, it can also help against colds and infectious diseases such as acute respiratory viral infections, influenza, and chicken pox. And recently it was found that flaxseed oil increases the body's resistance to cancer. It is especially useful for children, as it increases their immunity and increases resistance to disease.

Flaxseed oil: contraindications

Any effective substance is not useful for everyone and not in all situations. Flax oil and flaxseed did not escape this “minus”. Instructions for use are always included with the bottle of dietary supplement, and must be read before starting the course of treatment. Otherwise, instead of healing, you may get an exacerbation of the disease.

In most cases, serious harm cannot be caused by consuming or overdosing flaxseed oil: the excess will be eliminated from the body naturally. However, in some diseases it can cause deterioration. Since oil stimulates some physiological processes and inhibits others, you should definitely consult a doctor before taking it. Although the list of contraindications is not too long:

  • gallbladder diseases;
  • pancreatic diseases;
  • taking antibiotics;
  • diarrhea (since the oil itself is a laxative);
  • course of treatment with antidepressants;
  • lactation period;
  • and pregnancy, because substances contained in flaxseed oil can stimulate uterine contractions and cause premature birth.

There is still no agreement among doctors about whether it is possible to drink flaxseed oil with water. However, most doctors agree that it is most useful and harmless in the form of additives to other products. Of course, this does not apply to capsules: they can be washed down with anything, since the gelatin shell still dissolves in a strictly defined part of the gastrointestinal tract.

Beauty and health: flaxseed oil in cosmetology

The amazing properties of flax seed extract are widely used in the development of skin care products for the face and hands, nails, and hair. Flaxseed oil contains vitamins A and E, which increase skin elasticity, moisturize it and slow down aging. Many anti-wrinkle products contain this plant substance.

It is indispensable in home cosmetology. For dry skin, use it in its pure form, simply applying it in a thin layer as a night cream. Oily skin, on the contrary, can be “dried out” by making a simple face mask from flaxseed oil, eggs and any fermented milk products. Against cellulite – mix with essential oils.

There are many recipes for damaged or inflamed skin, both face and hands. For example, many housewives who are forced to be in contact with water for a long time dilute half a teaspoon of oil and a vitamin E capsule in egg yolk and apply this mixture to steamed hands. This mask gives an excellent healing effect, but instead of vitamin E you can use linseed oil for your hands.

Healthy hair

Flaxseed oil restores damaged hair and nails, strengthening their base and compensating for the lack of vitamins and acids - which are one of the main problems. It is applied to freshly washed hair as a balm, rubbed into the roots, and made into restorative hair masks. The vitamin mask is especially popular among women:

  • 2 tbsp. l. flax oils;
  • 0.5 tsp. nicotinic acid;
  • 1 tsp. Eleutherococcus;
  • 1 yolk.

All ingredients are mixed and applied to the hair, and after an hour they are washed off with warm water. This returns healthy shine and strength to your hair.

Nails are quickly strengthened by rubbing undiluted oil into the nail bar shortly before bed. Many miraculous varnishes that restore health to brittle or peeling nails contain flaxseed extract.

Tasty and healthy

And, of course, flaxseed oil does not lose its popularity in cooking. A variety of salads, vinaigrettes and yoghurts with its addition not only become much tastier, but also bring great benefits. Even for medicinal purposes, flaxseed oil is most often used as a dietary supplement, and not separately.

In ancient Rus', flaxseed oil was a completely common product, more easily available than olive or, especially, sunflower oil, which appeared in our country only in the 18th century. It was used to season porridges and salads, and baked goods.

Modern chefs know that it is possible to preserve all the taste and medicinal qualities of this oil only without subjecting it to heat treatment. Thus, ordinary salads with its addition acquire a much more pleasant and piquant taste. Sauerkraut, when combined with it, will not only become tastier, but will also help support the immune system.

Our ancestors knew about this, and until the 20th century, colds in Russia were rare even in the coldest winters. Today, adding flaxseed oil to honey and lemon will help create an amazingly tasty and very healthy treat for the immune system.

Housewives who love unconventional combinations and care about the health of loved ones make cocktails from this oil, garlic, honey and lemon. This drink boosts immunity, helps you lose weight, and additionally has a rejuvenating effect.

How to store

The shelf life of linseed oil after opening the bottle is limited to 1 month. It is better to store it in the refrigerator, in a place well protected from light. The ideal option would be a bottle made of dark, opaque glass. At room temperature, oil spoils very quickly and becomes rancid. This is very easy to determine: immediately when taken into the mouth, an unpleasant bitter taste appears. Do not confuse with aftertaste. Rancid oil leaves a slight bitterness on the tongue, but this happens after swallowing.

Expired oil can cause disruption of the digestive tract, so special attention should be paid to how to store flaxseed oil.
