Sometimes your iPhone's cellular data may suddenly stop working. Most often this happens unexpectedly and for no apparent reason. Typically, in such cases, you can still make and receive calls, but the Internet does not work, and you cannot use applications that require a network connection.

Obviously, a smartphone without cellular data becomes useless, so suddenly turning it off is not the most pleasant thing in the world.

Luckily, most cellular data problems on iPhone are very easy to fix. This is often done by changing one or two options. Below we will tell you what to do if mobile Internet does not work on your iPhone.

How to fix cellular data problems oniPhone

We'll share six ways to fix cellular data problem on iPhone. The first of them should solve most problems when, for no reason, the mobile Internet simply stops working.

1: Check that Cellular Data is turned on

The first thing you need to do is check that the Cellular data option is turned on. You may think this advice is stupid, but you have no idea how often people accidentally turn off cellular data or turn on airplane mode. Now this happens even more often due to the fact that the Cellular Data icon is in Control Center.

Let's check Cellular data:

  1. Open Control Center.
  2. Make sure the Cellular Data icon is turned on (it should be green).

If the icon was gray, then Cellular data was turned off.

1.1: Don't forget to check Airplane mode

Do not close Control Center and immediately check that Airplane mode is turned off. This mode disables all types of communication, including cellular data, so it could very well be the cause of the problem. If Airplane mode is on, turn it off.

The Cellular Data option can also be checked through Settings, just like Airplane Mode.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. The first section will be Airplane mode. Make sure the switch next to it is turned off.
  3. Then go to the Cellular section.
  4. Make sure the switch next to Cellular Data is turned on.
  5. Also check that cellular data is turned on for the apps you use most. To do this, scroll down the screen and check the switches.

These two options are the most common causes of problems with mobile Internet. When something is wrong with them, you can make and receive calls, but the Internet does not work. We strongly recommend that you check them first.

You can also turn off access to cellular data in apps where you don't need it. This will help save traffic.

2: Reset network settings

Some network problems can be resolved by resetting the network settings and rebooting. The only disadvantage of this method is that all saved settings, such as DNS, as well as passwords from wi-fi networks will be erased.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to General and select Reset.
  3. Click Reset network settings and confirm.
  4. Close settings and restart your device.

When the iPhone turns on, open an application like Safari and check if the Internet is working.

3: Check for carrier updates

Sometimes providers provide carrier updates. If you don't install such updates, there shouldn't be any problems, but there's no reason to avoid them either.

  1. Select About this device. If an update is available, it will automatically appear on your screen and you can install it.

4: UpdateiOS

Updating your system to the latest available version may also help. iOS updates contain various bug fixes and system improvements. Sometimes they can also solve cellular data problems.

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or iTunes.
  2. Open Settings and go to General.
  3. Select Software Update and, if a new version is available, install it.

Remember to save a copy of your device before each update.

5: Contact the operator

If you have tried all of the above methods, but the mobile Internet still does not work, contact your operator. There may be a problem with the network itself, or you have used up all the available traffic.

In this article, I want to look at solutions to various problems that you may encounter when connecting your iPhone or iPad to a Wi-Fi network. I often see questions in the comments: “what to do if the iPhone does not connect to Wi-Fi,” “why the iPad does not connect to the home network,” or “why the Internet does not work after connecting to the Wi-Fi network.” Today I will try to answer these and other questions in detail.

I've been using my iPhone for a little over a year, I've had my iPad for over 3 years, and I've never had a problem connecting to wireless networks. True, I don’t often connect to new networks. Basically, my devices are always connected to my home Wi-Fi network, or I use the mobile Internet. It happened that the Internet simply did not work, but this happened on all devices, and the problem was with the router or provider.

Cities are now simply full of Wi-Fi networks. In shops, cafes, clubs, hotels, subways, or just open wireless networks on city streets. And most often the iPhone does not connect to these networks. Although, it’s not uncommon to have problems connecting to home routers. I also often noticed messages that the iPhone does not want to connect to wireless networks in the subway. It displays a message saying "Insecure connection". We will also try to figure this out.

I think this instruction is suitable for all phone models (iPhone 7, iPhone 6, 5, 5S, etc.) and tablets from Apple. It also doesn’t make much difference what kind of router you have: Mikrotik, TP-Link, D-Link, ASUS, etc. However, according to my observations, Apple mobile devices are not very friendly with Mikrotik routers. If you have problems connecting to someone else's network, you will not be able to change the router settings. And this may be necessary.

We will look at solutions to the following problems and errors:

First of all:

  1. Reboot your iOS device. Press and hold the Home key and the Power button at the same time. Also reboot the router (turn off and on power), if you have access to a router. Try connecting according to the instructions: . On the iPhone everything is exactly the same. If this method does not help, then we will look for a solution further.
  2. Find out what the problem is. To do this, try connecting another device to your (or someone else's) network. Several are possible. See if the Internet works for them. If other devices also have problems connecting or accessing the Internet, then the problem is on the side of the router or Internet provider. I will talk about some router settings below in the article. Also try connecting your iPhone to a different network. If it does not connect to any Wi-Fi network, then reset the network settings (more on this later in the article).

We try to “forget the network” on the iPhone/iPad and connect to Wi-Fi again

The “Forget this network” function often helps to get rid of various connection problems. This method is especially relevant when the device does not connect after changing the router settings. For example, after changing the Wi-Fi network password. And the error “Could not connect to the network” appears, or there is a constant connection.

Just go to your Wi-Fi settings and click on the problematic network. Next, click on “Forget this network” and confirm the action by clicking on the “Forget” button.

After that, try to connect again using the password.

Doing a complete reset of network settings on an iOS device

Another solution that completely deletes all network settings on the iPhone and allows you to get rid of many problems related to the Internet connection and restore Wi-Fi operation.

In the settings, open the “General” – “Reset” section and click on “Reset network settings”. Next we confirm the reset.

After that, you can try to connect your iPad, iPhone to the Wi-Fi network. If the problem persists and he doesn’t want to connect, then most likely the problem is in the router settings (which I hope you have already rebooted).

What can you try to change in the router settings?

In the settings of your router, you can try changing the following parameters: region, operating mode, channel, channel width, encryption type.

If you are sure that you are entering everything correctly, but the iPhone still says that the password is incorrect, then you can try setting a different password in the router settings. Enter something simple, 8 digits. Security settings: WPA2 (AES).

Warning: "Insecure Network"

This is just a warning that you can see on your iPhone when you connect to an unsecured Wi-Fi network. By clicking on the network itself, security recommendations appear. This feature appeared in iOS 10.

If this is your home network, then of course set a password for it. If the network is not yours, then you can simply use the connection. But remember, it's not entirely safe.

"No internet connection" on iPhone and iPad

In the case where the mobile device has successfully connected to the network, but sites do not open in the browser and programs cannot access the Internet, the reason is most likely on the side of the access point. Also next to the network name there may be an inscription “No Internet connection”.

Check if the Internet works on another device connected through the same router. If not, then see the article: p. If everything is fine on other devices, the problem with Wi-Fi is only on the iPhone, then first reboot it. If this does not help, then reset your network settings (I wrote about this above).

Solutions to other Wi-Fi problems

Let's briefly look at two more cases:

  1. Wi-Fi does not turn on. Inactive switch. The Apple website recommends resetting your network settings. How to do this, I wrote in detail above in the article. If resetting does not help, then you can try to completely reset the device. But most likely you will have to contact a service center. Since this indicates a breakdown of the Wi-Fi module itself in the phone or tablet.
  2. Why doesn't my iPhone connect to Wi-Fi automatically? Most likely this is some kind of glitch. Since the phone always tries to automatically connect to a known wireless network that it has already connected to. I can only advise forgetting the required network in the settings (I wrote more about how to do this above) and reconnect to the network.

I also wanted to say a few words about public and other people’s Wi-Fi networks. When we cannot connect our iPhone or iPad to such a Wi-Fi network, we need to understand that some kind of blocking may be configured there (for example, MAC binding), or your device was simply blocked there. Since we do not have access to the access point settings, all we can do is reset the network settings on our device.

I tried to consider all the most popular and frequent cases that owners of Apple mobile devices encounter. If you have some other problem, or you know other working solutions, then write about it in the comments. Best wishes!

Why the Internet does not work on iPhone (4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7) is a common question, the answer to which is not easy to get. There are problems that you can solve yourself. But there are times when it is impossible to do without the intervention of professionals.

Main causes of failure

There is a basic set of signs that indicate a gadget breakdown. Here are the most common ones:

  • there is no Internet connection or web pages do not load;
  • inability to turn on modem mode;
  • poor connection or frequent interruptions;
  • error due to device version update.

Advice: if the Internet does not work on the iPhone, and the gadget is under warranty, then feel free to take it to Apple representatives for examination. They will replace the device or pay the cost of restoration.

DIY repair

If the Internet on the iPhone does not work, then this is not a death sentence. If you have the necessary skills, you can carry out the repairs yourself. But you need to know what to do. iPhone recovery algorithms that are considered effective are described below.

  1. If you find that network coverage exists, but the Internet has stopped working, then the problem is with the mobile operator. Make sure all services are paid for. After this, you need to update the network data. Go to data settings and re-enter your username and APN. Please check this information with your operator in advance.
  2. If mobile Internet does not work on iPhone (4, 4c, 5, 5s, 6, 6s, 7) or the 3G connection is lost, then you need to restart the browser and gadget. Disable the Java plugin in the search engine settings and restart your iPhone. Don't forget to close all applications first to clear your RAM.
  3. There is a problem with the data network. In the settings, check the activity of the 3G slider. The Internet will work, but do not forget that the quality of coverage by the operator of different zones is not the same.
  4. Connecting your iPhone to modem mode can be complicated by a system failure. Check if the modem slider is active. If everything is fine, then restart the device. If this does not help, then you need to reset the settings to factory settings. But it’s worth doing this if you can reconfigure the gadget yourself.

Important: if you have even the slightest doubt in your abilities, then do not take risks. By interfering with the device’s system without the necessary skills, you can aggravate the situation and break your iPhone.

Sometimes it happens that the Internet does not work on the iPhone 4S. Why can this situation occur on iPhone 5S? and how to fix the problem? After all, now it’s catastrophically inconvenient not to have Internet on your iPhone. Almost all applications installed on a smartphone, as well as Skype, You Tube and other important program utilities, are of no use on an iPhone without an Internet connection.

As a rule, signs of a missing Internet network appear in different ways: the connection icon takes on a lifeless appearance or its appearance becomes faded or gray. There is clearly a network routing failure; perhaps the data transfer speed has become too slow. Why else might the Internet not work on the iPhone? In this article, we will look at all possible reasons for deactivating the Internet network on iPhones and offer conditions and possible solutions to these problems.

One of the obvious reasons for the disappearance of the Internet may be the consequence of updating the iOS firmware on iPhone 5 after you jailbroken it. This may cause the network operator settings to fail. As a rule, users of the iPhone 4 and 4S suffer from this; similar failures are less common on the iPhone 5S or iPhone 6 . Unfortunately, these types of smartphones are less protected from poor installation of operating system updates.

If the Internet on your iPhone does not work, first find out the reason for the Internet network failure. Check for an “E” icon at the top of the screen. If it is present, then the network is working and the reason is different; if the letter “E” is missing, then this means that the area in which you are located is simply not covered by your operator’s network. In order to fix this problem, simply search for an Internet network, climb higher, or restart your iPhone by clicking on the “Power” button, swipe to restart your smartphone and wait until the Apple icon appears, indicating a reboot.

You can try to reconfigure the mobile network itself and configure data transfer. To do this, open the main menu of the iPhone “Settings” and go to the “Network” section, in which open the “Cellular Data” option. In it you will find three settings items: APN, Username, Password. Click the Reset button to begin reconfiguring your phone network.

In addition, you can try to perform a different current network reconfiguration. Now go to the “Settings” menu again, where go to the “Network” item and select the “Cellular Data Network” section, and then configure all three items manually, filling in the data of your operator. For example, for the MTS network the settings are as follows: APN - internet.mts.ru, then Username - mts, then password - mts . If you have a different operator, you can call him and clarify the correct settings so that you enter it correctly.

Also, try restarting WI-FI mode. To do this, go to the “Settings” menu on your iPhone, select the WI-FI icon and drag the slider to the left to turn off the Internet network, and after a while return the slider to its place by dragging it to the right. The network will reboot and the Internet network settings may automatically appear on your smartphone.

Airplane mode reset

Alternatively, you can restart Airplane Mode on your iPhone. To do this, go to the “Settings” menu, find the “Airplane mode” section at the top and drag the slider to the left to turn it off, and after 30 seconds, drag the same slider to the right to turn it on. Perhaps after this manipulation the Internet network on the device will resume. This method is sometimes repeated a couple of times.

Similarly, you can restart the 3G network. To do this, open the “Settings” menu and go to the “Cellular” section, where you can turn off the “Cellular Data” item by dragging the slider to the left, and after 30 seconds, turn on the cellular data again by dragging the icon to the right. Perhaps restarting the 3G network will help restore the network. This happens when the network fails for reasons beyond your control.

Call the network operator

It often happens that the network is disconnected due to the termination of the service package according to the tariff or contract, so call your operator and find out when to pay. Perhaps after you top up your operator account with the required amount, your provider will reconnect the Internet network. In addition, you can check how much money is left in your account and the validity period of the service package in order to quickly clarify this issue if it is difficult to reach the operator.

Another effective method for fixing a non-working Internet connection on iPhone is to restart the FaceTime function. To do this, go to the main menu “Settings” and select the “Restrictions” section and disable all restrictions nothing on a smartphone. As a result, the FaceTime program will appear among your other applications, click on the program icon and launch it, the network may appear again.

Setting up a home network

If you urgently need to connect to the Internet network, but your iPhone doesn’t have it for some reason, you can set up the network on your iPhone via WI-FI by connecting to a computer with Wi-Fi via your home Internet network. To use this method, find a computer connected to a wired Internet. On your computer, open the Start button and select the “Control Panel” section, where go to “Network and Sharing Center”. By clicking this item, a menu will open in which add the “Computer-to-Computer” connection and enter the name of the network, then create a password. Then click the “Next” button and, without pressing any other buttons, immediately click the “Close” button.

Now go to the “Network Connections” section and activate the network with the name you entered by checking the two boxes. When you connect, click the “Home” connection type. Now turn on WI-FI on your iPhone. The Internet network should work without problems. Now such an Internet network will be automatically configured on your iPhone when you come within range of your computer.

iOS Firmware Update

As a last resort, if none of the above methods help, try updating the iOS firmware. To do this, find a computer with iOS and the Internet and connect your iPhone to the computer via a USB cable. Next, open iTunes on your PC. Check that the program is the latest version, if it is out of date, update it, and if it is not on your PC, then install it by downloading the iTunes program for free through the official website.

Launching iTunes should detect your connected Apple iPhone. At the top right, the program will offer you to install a new firmware version on your iPhone. Back up your iPhone data first. To do this, click the “This PC” button, and then “Create a copy now.” After the backup copy of the data is saved to the PC, select the “Update” button in iTunes, after which the process of installing new firmware on the iPhone will begin.

At the end of the process, the smartphone will reboot itself. Wait until it is fully turned on, and then in iTunes, select “This PC” and the “Restore from a copy” button so that the saved backup copy of the data is loaded onto the iPhone, returning all contacts, photos, bookmarks, documents, audio and video files to their place. After that, try entering your Internet network settings again. The Internet should appear on your iPhone.

Disabling the Internet on iPhone

To disable the Internet network on your iPhone, you need to open the “Settings” section and launch the “Network” section, where you can disable Wi-Fi mode by dragging the activity slider to the left. If the Internet is turned off, battery consumption will be reduced. Search for a network by clicking on the corresponding icon button. If your field detects any other available Internet network, try connecting to it by entering the password when prompted.
