- children under 2 years of age;

- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

WITH caution the drug should be used in patients with severe cardiovascular diseases (for example, coronary artery disease, arterial hypertension), pheochromocytoma, prostatic hyperplasia, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, porphyria, dry rhinitis, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, glaucoma and in patients receiving MAO inhibitors or other drugs that can increase blood pressure.

The use of the drug for angle-closure glaucoma is contraindicated. For other types of glaucoma, the drug is used with extreme caution and under the supervision of a physician.

Pregnancy and lactation

There are no data on the penetration of the drug through the placenta and into breast milk. Considering the possibility of developing systemic side effects, the drug can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus and child.

Application for children

Contraindicated for use in children under 2 years of age. Long-term use and overdose of the drug should be avoided, especially in children.

special instructions

Before instilling the drug, you must remove contact lenses and install them 15 minutes after instillation. It is necessary to avoid direct contact of the drug with soft contact lenses due to possible disruption of their transparency.

It is possible to develop reactive hyperemia of the conjunctiva and nasal mucosa (medicinal rhinitis) due to improper use of the drug.

The patient should be informed that if intense pain in the eyes, severe acute or unilateral redness of the eyes, headache, blurred vision, spots before the eyes or double vision occurs, it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor.

If irritation or hyperemia is associated with serious ocular diseases, such as infection, foreign body or chemical trauma to the cornea, consultation with an ophthalmologist is necessary.

Long-term use and overdose of the drug should be avoided, especially in children.

The patient should be informed that if the medicine has become unusable or has expired, it should not be thrown into wastewater or onto the street. It is necessary to place the medicine in a bag and place it in the trash container. These measures will help protect the environment.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

In rare cases, blurred vision may occur after using eye drops, which may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

Overdose

Symptoms

Excessive systemic absorption of alpha-adrenomimetic imidazole derivatives can lead to CNS depression, manifested by drowsiness, low body temperature, bradycardia, shock-like hypotension, apnea and coma.

Symptoms of overdose are mydriasis, nausea, cyanosis, fever, convulsions, tachycardia, arrhythmia, cardiac arrest, increased blood pressure, pulmonary edema, respiratory dysfunction, and mental disorders.

The risk of overdose symptoms associated with drug absorption is especially high in newborns and young children when drops are swallowed, which may result in central nervous system disorders, as well as respiratory depression and collapse.

The toxic dose of tetrizoline is 0.01 mg/kg body weight.

Treatment

If any symptoms of overdose appear, consult a doctor immediately.

In case of overdose, activated charcoal, gastric lavage, oxygen inhalation, antipyretics and anticonvulsants are prescribed. To lower blood pressure, use phentolamine 5 mg in saline slowly intravenously or 100 mg orally. Vasopressor agents are contraindicated in patients with low blood pressure. In case of symptoms caused by blockade of m-cholinergic receptors, the antidote physostigmine is used.

After a single use of Vizin ® Classic, the unused contents of the ampoule must be discarded.

Drug interactions

The drug Vizin ® Classic should not be used simultaneously with MAO inhibitors such as tranylcypromine, tricyclic antidepressants, or drugs that increase blood pressure. Combination therapy with these groups of drugs can lead to increased vasoconstrictor effects and increased blood pressure.

Visine (tetrizoline hydrochloride) is a vasoconstrictor drug belonging to the group of alpha-adrenergic agonists, used in ophthalmic practice to eliminate swelling and increased blood flow to the conjunctival membrane, which, in turn, are a consequence of exposure to irritating factors of a chemical and physical nature. Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, in addition to swelling and blood flow to the conjunctival membrane and eyelids, are impaired nasal breathing, the so-called. “rabbit nose”, when unbearable itching causes the patient to wrinkle his nose, and a frequent and impulsive desire to rub his eyes and nose with his hands. The basis of this entire clinical picture is inflammatory reactions caused by the massive release of histamine, bradykinin and other inflammatory mediators. This symptom complex significantly worsens the patient’s quality of life, creating serious inconvenience for him. Intense rubbing of the eyes can lead to the development of an infection with total bacterial damage to the organs of vision, including the conjunctiva and the eyeball. Drugs from the group of alpha-adrenergic agonists and, in particular, Visin, which, in addition to the vasoconstrictor effect, washes away mechanical inclusions from the mucous membrane of the eyeball, can help in this situation. And because In case of inflammatory damage to the organs of vision, rapid elimination of unpleasant symptoms is required. Visin, due to its pharmacological characteristics, seems to be the optimal choice. The effect of using the drug begins to appear within a minute after use and lasts up to 8 hours. Its active component, tetrizoline, has no toxic properties and is not absorbed into the systemic circulation, which reduces the risk of side effects and gives Vizin a favorable safety profile.

Suffice it to say that the incidence of unwanted side effects when using Visin is 0.000001%, which allows the drug to be used in pediatric practice starting from the age of two. Tetrizoline can be absorbed into the systemic circulation only in patients with damaged mucous membrane of the eyelids and eyeball. Visine is convenient to use: placed in a miniature plastic bottle, it does not take up much space in a cosmetic bag or pocket, and its tightly closing lid will prevent possible leakage of the medicine and the entry of mechanical and bacterial contaminants into the solution. Long-term (more than 50 years) experience of use, rapid development of therapeutic action, over-the-counter status, absence of clinically significant side effects - all these advantages of Vizin make the drug one of the most popular in ophthalmological practice. The drug can be used 2-3 times during the day. It should be borne in mind that Vizin is not suitable for prolonged use for more than 4 days in a row. If the inflammatory reaction is based on an allergy, then in addition to Visin, tableted antihistamines should be used. Before using Visin, you must remove contact lenses and return them 15 minutes after instillation. When the drug interacts with soft contact lenses, the latter may become cloudy. Visine is not recommended for use in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants and drugs that increase blood pressure, because otherwise, the vasoconstrictor effect of tetrizoline may be potentiated and arterial hypertension may develop.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery

In rare cases, blurred vision may occur after using eye drops, which may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.

There are many drugs sold in pharmacies under the name Visine. They all have different compositions and mechanisms of action, which is why they are used in completely different situations. Such an abundance of Visin eye drops can seriously confuse and confuse the average person. Therefore, let's look at each of the drugs in detail.

Composition and effects

In our country, the most famous are Visin Classic eye drops. As an active ingredient they contain the alpha-adrenergic agonist tetrizoline. This substance has a vasoconstrictor and anti-edematous effect, which quickly removes lacrimation and redness of the eyes.

In addition to tetrazoline, the drug contains:

  • boric acid;
  • disodium edetate;
  • sodium borate;
  • sodium chloride;
  • benzalkonium chloride (preservative);
  • purified water.

The instructions for use clearly state that Vizin Classic cannot be used for more than 4 days. The drug only relieves unpleasant symptoms, but does not have a therapeutic effect. It is not suitable for the treatment of dry eye syndrome, keratitis, blepharitis, etc.

Due to the presence of benzalkonium in the composition, these eye drops can destroy. Therefore, people who wear SCLs will need to remove them before instilling the medicine. You can put the lenses back on fifteen minutes after instillation.

Drugs marketed under the brand name Vizin

Today on the market you can find more than five types of Visin gels and drops, which are suitable for the treatment of many eye diseases. They are used for keratitis, dry eye syndrome, irritation caused by wearing contact lenses or prolonged work at the computer.

Visine Pure Tear

The drug has a rich composition and has a pronounced moisturizing effect. Visin Pure Tear relieves symptoms such as irritation, dryness and hyperemia (redness) of the conjunctiva. Thanks to this, the drops quickly and effectively relieve a person’s well-being.

Pure Tear eye drops help cope with the consequences of:

  • prolonged work at the computer;
  • being in dusty, smoky rooms;
  • use of low-quality cosmetics;
  • sitting for long periods in a room with air conditioning or a fan.

The drug is also used for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome. Due to the presence of a plant extract from the group of polysaccharides in the composition, the medicine stabilizes the tear film, moisturizes the cornea and conjunctiva, eliminates dry eyes and returns a feeling of comfort to the person.

The composition of Pure Tear eye drops includes:

  • TS-polysaccharide;
  • sodium dihydrogen phosphate;
  • mannitol;
  • benzalkonium chloride;
  • dodecahydrate;
  • the water is sterile.

The instructions for use indicate that Visin Pure Tear should be instilled 3-4 times a day. The medicine cannot be used simultaneously with other ophthalmic agents (a break of ten to fifteen minutes must be taken between instillations). Contact lenses should be removed before each procedure.

Montevisin

The drug is a complete analogue of Visin Classic. This means that it has exactly the same composition and mechanism of action. Montevisin contains tetrizoline in an amount of 500 mcg/ml. Due to stimulation of alpha-adrenergic receptors, the substance has a rapid vasoconstrictor effect. Thanks to this, Montevisin helps remove redness, lacrimation and other unpleasant symptoms in a matter of minutes.

The medicine is used as a symptomatic remedy for eye irritation and allergic diseases. The instructions for eye drops indicate that Montevisin cannot be used for corneal dystrophies, during pregnancy and lactation.

Visin Allergy

The active ingredient contains levocabastine, a H1-histamine receptor blocker. The drug has a pronounced antiallergic effect. Visin Allergy helps to quickly get rid of itching, watery eyes, redness and swelling of the eyelids and conjunctiva. The effect of using the medicine occurs within 5-7 minutes after instillation of the eyes and lasts about 10 hours.

Visine for dry eyes

Available in the form of an eye gel in 10 ml bottles. When it enters the conjunctival cavity, the substance turns into liquid. The components of the drug stabilize the tear film, thereby protecting the eyes from drying out.

Composition of Visin drops for dry eyes:

  • glycerol;
  • povidone K95;
  • triglycerides;
  • carbomer 974P;
  • trometamol;
  • benzalkonium chloride;
  • sodium acetate trihydrate;
  • purified water.

The gel is effective in the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome. It relieves irritation, has a softening and moisturizing effect. The drug reliably protects the eyes from drying out during prolonged work at the computer, which makes it especially useful for office workers.

Vizin Night

It has exactly the same composition as the previous medicine. Also available in the form of an eye gel. The manufacturer positions the drug as a means to moisturize the eyes during sleep. Visin Night is placed into the conjunctival cavity in the evening, just before going to bed.

Indications and contraindications

Most Vizin brand drugs are intended for the symptomatic treatment of dry eye syndrome. They can also be used as drops to relieve irritation caused by harmful environmental factors (smoke, dust, chemicals, dry air, low-quality cosmetics).

Visin Classic eye drops are suitable for relieving eye redness. They are recommended for use in cases where you need to achieve a quick cosmetic effect. Using the medicine on an ongoing basis is not only undesirable, but also dangerous. But you can keep it in the first aid kit “in reserve” and use it if necessary.

Visin Allergy eye drops can be included in the complex treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. To speed up recovery, they should be used together with drugs from the group of corticosteroids and mast cell stabilizers.

Contraindications to the use of Visin:

  • intolerance to individual components of drugs;
  • dystrophy of the cornea;
  • less than two years old.

Medicines should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation, in the presence of diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, severe heart and vascular diseases.

Instructions and dosage

Drops are recommended to be used as often as recommended by your doctor. Before using Visin drops, you should carefully read the instructions. Before instilling eye drops, you should wash your hands with soap. Pulling back the lower eyelid from below and looking up, you need to carefully drop 1 drop of the medicine into each eye.

Visine eye gel should be placed behind the lower eyelid. To do this, you need to slightly pull it down. After squeezing a drop of the drug into the conjunctival cavity, you need to release the eyelid and close your eyes for a couple of minutes. After the procedure, you may experience slight blurred vision, which will go away soon.

Analogs

Analogues of Visin Allergy drops are the following drugs:

  • Tizin Alerji;
  • Cromohexal;
  • Lecrolin;
  • Olopatadine; Zatiden.

Classic Visine can be safely replaced:

  • Visoptician;
  • Octilia;
  • Naphazoline;
  • Oxymetazoline.

Analogs of Visine that can be used for dry eyes:

  • Systane Ultra;
  • Visomitin;
  • Hilo Chest;
  • Ophtolic;
  • Vidisik;
  • Oftagel;
  • Oksial;
  • Systane Gel;
  • Systain Balance.

Side effects

After using any drug, the patient may experience temporary blurred vision, mild tingling or discomfort in the eyes. Visine Classic can also cause pupil dilation.

It should be remembered that with prolonged and irresponsible use of Visin brand drops, they can lead to an attack of acute angle-closure glaucoma.

Useful video about Visin drops

Visine is a fairly common drug in ophthalmology. It is a sympathomimetic drug with local decongestant and vasoconstrictor properties. The effect of using the product is noticeable within a couple of minutes. Visin eye drops help relieve long-term strain on the organs of vision, which are especially affected when working at a computer. The use of drops allows you to cope with the resulting dryness and prevent destruction of the mucous membrane of the eyes. In this case, the components of the drug are not absorbed into the bloodstream.

Visin drops - composition

The effect of the drug is due to the content of tetrizoline in it. It makes up half of the total composition of the drops. The remaining components are excipients:

  • sodium borate;
  • water;
  • boric acid;
  • benzalkonium chloride solution (17%);
  • sodium chloride.

The product is available in sterile packaging equipped with a dropper.

Visin drops - application

Indications for treatment with drops are:

  • , resulting from intolerance to pollen or occurring during hay fever;
  • eye damage from exposure to mechanical and chemical substances (dust, sand, water with chlorine, cosmetics);
  • hyperemia and swelling of the eyes, which occurs when wearing contact lenses and working at the computer for long periods of time.

Visin eye drops, according to the instructions, are taken three times a day, instilling three to four drops. After the symptoms disappear, treatment should be stopped immediately. To evenly distribute the composition, you should blink a couple of times. For several minutes after instillation, blurred vision may be felt, which disappears after blinking.

Visin eye drops - special instructions

The total duration of use of Visin drops should not exceed four days. Long-term use of this drug makes treatment ineffective and increases the risk of side effects.

During the period of taking Visin Classic drops, you should stop wearing lenses to prevent changes in the structure of the lenses and not to impair their transparency.

When treating with drops, persons whose work requires concentration and concentration should be very careful. During this period, there may be a risk of vision deterioration, so it is not recommended to drive.

If improvement does not occur within two days, then the drug is discontinued.

Vizin eye drops - contraindications

This product should not be used by the following groups of people:

  • those suffering from angle-closure glaucoma;
  • children under two years of age;
  • having corneal dystrophy;
  • in case of intolerance to the components of the drug.
