Spell checking in the browser (Chrome, Opera, Firefox, IE). Opera: how to enable spell checking? Adding Russian and Ukrainian languages

Any modern browser (Internet program) has a built-in spell checker. With just one small tweak, you can automatically correct errors in almost any text you type on the Internet.

This is done in exactly the same way as in Word. Any misspelled words printed will be underlined with a red wavy line. By right-clicking on such a word, a list will appear where the correct options will be offered.

Enable spell checking in Google Chrome

Right-click this field once.

In the list that appears, hover over “Spelling Options.” In the additional list, click on “Check spelling in text fields.”

Then right-click in the field again, point to “Spelling Options” and select the desired dictionary at the top of the list.

If the required language is not available, then click on “Language settings...” and in the window that appears, click on the “Add” button (bottom left).

A tiny window will appear in which a language will be indicated (Azerbaijani in the picture).

Then click on the "OK" button. After this, the selected language will be added to the list on the left. Click the “Done” button and close the browser tab.

Now right-click on the text entry field again. Point to "Spelling Options" and click on the language you added.

Checking is enabled. Try typing a misspelled word:

It should be highlighted with a red wavy line. To correct it, right-click on the underlined word and select the appropriate option (if, of course, there is one). The word should automatically be replaced with the correct one.

To improve error correction, you can enable Google Assistant. This is done only once: right-click inside the text input field - Spell check options - Search for hints in Google - Enable.

Enable error checking in the Opera browser

Right-click on this field once:

In the list that appears, hover the cursor over “Spell Check Settings” and click on “Check Spelling”.

Then you need to select a language. As a rule, the Opera browser is initially set to English. This means that it only checks the correct spelling of English words.

If this does not suit us, then we need to specify a different language. To do this, right-click again on the text input field and point to the “Spell Check Settings” item. In the additional list, click on the item “Dictionaries...”.

A new tab will open with language settings. Click on “Add” at the bottom left.

A small window will appear in which a language will be indicated. For me it's "English (UK)".

Click on it and select the one you need to check your spelling.

Now click on the “OK” button, then click on “Done” and close the settings tab.

Right-click on the text entry field again, point to “Spell Check Settings” and select the language you just added (at the top).

That's it! To check, try typing a misspelled word in this field:

It should be highlighted with a red wavy line. To correct it, right-click on the word and select the appropriate option. Immediately after this it should be replaced with the correct one.

Checking and fixing errors in Mozilla Firefox

To enable the check, right-click in this text entry field:

In the list that appears, click on the “Spell Check” item.

Then right-click in the text field again, point to “Languages” and check that the desired one is selected.

If it is not in the list, click on “Add dictionaries...”.

A new tab will open. Find the desired language in the list and click on the “Install dictionary” link.

A page will load with an “Add to Firefox” button. Click on it.

After loading, a window will appear in the center of the page. There you need to click on the “Install Now” button.

Then close all unnecessary tabs and right-click on the text input field again. In the list, point again to “Languages” and select the one you just installed.

The browser will now check spelling and try to correct errors. If you make a typing error in any text entry field, it will be underlined with a red wavy line.

To correct, right-click on the word and select the appropriate option, if available. Immediately after this, the “problem” word should be replaced with the selected one.

If suddenly from time to time misspelled words are no longer underlined, you should check whether spell checking is enabled in your browser settings.

To do this, open the program menu - the button with horizontal stripes at the end of the address bar. Select “Settings”, click on “Advanced” in the window and in the “General” tab, make sure that the “Check spelling while typing” checkbox is checked. If it is not there, install it and click OK.

Then right-click in the field again, point to “Spelling Options” and select the desired language at the top of the list.

To enable the check, click on the “Service” button. It is located under the “Collapse”, “Expand”, “Close” buttons - a gear is drawn on it. Click and select "Configure add-ons".

A window will appear in the center of the browser. Click on the “Spell Check” item (on the left) and in the list that loads on the right, click on the desired language. Then check the “Enable spell checking” checkbox and click on the “Default” button (below).

Now you can close the window - the check is enabled. Let's see if this is true.

Hi all! And again it’s me, Sergey, at the keyboard. How I started :). But seriously and to the point, I will now write, well, just very useful advice about how to enable spell checking in Opera, and how to add Russian and Ukrainian language checking. In fact, spell checking in the browser is very useful. But in Opera, immediately after installing it, there is only a check for the English language. Now we will add two more, or you can add as many languages as you need.

Spell checking works in all forms, on all sites. For example, you write a comment on my blog, and you accidentally misspell a word. If spell checking is turned on, it will be underlined with a red line, just like in Word. And if you right-click on this incorrectly spelled word, you will be able to select the correct version of the word.

I make quite a few mistakes on the blog with this check too :), well, excuse me, I have to type a lot, and you can’t keep track of all the mistakes :). But for example, when corresponding on VKontakte, checking spelling in Opera can make you and me more educated :). I’m writing how to do this in Opera, because I use this browser exclusively, maybe I’ll also write about other browsers.

Well, I think you already understand that this is very cool and useful. Especially for those who got a bad grade in Russian or Ukrainian at school :).

How to enable spell checking in Opera?

As I already wrote, checking in that browser is already enabled by default. But there is only one dictionary installed there, and that is English. We need to add more dictionaries that we need.

How to add Russian and Ukrainian language checking?

Now I’ll write how to add checking for these two languages, it’s actually nothing complicated.

On any text input field, right-click. For example, you can do this on the form for sending comments below. Make sure the checkbox is checked “Check spelling”. Costs? Everything is fine, if not, then install it. Next, hover over “Dictionaries” and select “Add/remove dictionaries”.

A window will appear in which you need to check off those dictionaries that you want to add to Opera for spell checking. After selecting the dictionaries, click “Next”.

The dictionaries will begin loading. A window will appear with a license agreement for each language. Put a tick “I agree to the terms of the license agreement” and click “Next”.

After loading all the dictionaries, a window will appear in which you can select the language for spell checking in Opera, which will be used by default. I selected Russian and clicked “Finish”.

To enable spell checking in Microsoft Office, open the Word software product using the desktop shortcut or the menu item “Start” - “All Programs” - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Word. Click the File tab (Microsoft Office 2013) or click the Office Button (Microsoft Office versions 2010 and 2007). Go to the "Options" section and click on the "Spelling" item. Select the Exceptions menu and click the Current File Name field. After that, uncheck the “Hide spelling errors” and “Hide grammatical errors” checkboxes.

If you want to enable automatic spell checking for all documents that you open in Microsoft Office, in the “Exceptions” section, select the “All new documents” option. Uncheck the corresponding “Hide” checkboxes and save your changes by clicking on the “Ok” button.

In PowerPoint, you can enable automatic spell checking from the similar menu “Options” - “Spelling”. Uncheck the “Hide spelling errors” checkbox and save your changes.

Mechanism of operation

When an error occurs in your text, Word will highlight it with a red, blue, or green line. The red line is used to record spelling errors. Punctuation errors are indicated with a blue line, and grammatical errors are highlighted with a green wavy line. To view possible spelling options and correct an error, right-click on the word or phrase.

If you accept the option suggested by Word, select it by clicking on the corresponding menu item. Word will automatically correct the error and remove the underline. If you think that there is no error in a given place in the text and the word is written correctly, you can ignore the underlining or click on the “Skip all” context menu, also available by right-clicking.

AutoCorrect

You can also activate the AutoCorrect feature, which is available in Office programs. This option allows you to automatically correct incorrectly spelled words in accordance with a list manually created by the user. There you can add words that cause you problems in spelling.

To enable auto-substitution, go to the “Options” - “Spelling” - “Auto-Correct Options” section. Check the "Replace as you type" checkbox. In the Replace field, indicate the words or phrases that you have difficulty writing. In the left column, enter the misspelled word, and in the right column, indicate the correct spelling. After adding a sufficient number of words and phrases, click “OK” and save your changes.

Google Chrome has a very convenient tool that helps illiterate or inattentive people avoid making mistakes when writing any texts in this very Google Chrome. Everything works like in Word: incorrectly written words are underlined with a red line. The check is carried out the moment you type text in any form field. This is how the words are emphasized:

But it should be noted that our beloved Google Chrome only checks spelling and does not check spelling.

How to enable spell checking in Google Chrome?

In general, the check is enabled by default for the installed language. However, if for some reason you don’t have this, then you need to enable it yourself - it’s very simple.

Pay attention to the checkbox next to " Search Google for clues". When you enable this option, every time you right-click on a misspelled word, a request will be sent to Google and there will be more suggestions for replacing the word...

Here is such a short note for a person and huge progress for literacy 👍

Video: How to enable spelling in Google Chrome

All sites and forums have forms for filling out text. In order to write a text, question, comment or business letter correctly and without errors, you need to be the most literate person and have the highest grade in the language or enable spell check in your browser by setting the desired language.

Enable spell checking in the browser

When you write a message on a social network or an email in Gmail, you may notice how a misspelled word is underlined with a red line (flat or wavy). This means that the browser's spell checking is enabled. However, it works differently in different browsers: in some it simply highlights errors, while in others it also offers options for choosing a word replacement. In addition, it should be noted that the browser may also underline correct words if the default language is set to one language.

Therefore, if you write in Russian or Ukrainian in the browser, then when you turn on the spell check, you also need to set the desired language.

Let's look at enabling spell checking using the Opera browser as an example (it's identical in Google Chrome).

IMPORTANT! Spell checking is enabled by default in browsers. It only uses one dictionary - English or Russian. We will give an example of adding one language, and you will do the same steps, just select another language pack (or as many as necessary).

Let's open a website, for example. Select any article and open the form for writing comments. Right-click on an empty space and select “Spell Check”, and then “Language Settings”.

A new tab will open in your browser. A list of languages will be presented. If the required language is not available, then click on the “Add” button.

Select the dictionary to load and click “Add”.

Now that the language has been added to the list, select it and check the box “Use this language to check spelling”, as well as “Enable spell checking”.

Click the “Finish” button and write the text in the browser without errors.

It is important to note that such a simple spell check setting is possible in other browsers. Therefore, by spending just a couple of minutes, you will not only get rid of mistakes, but over time you will learn not to make them at all. Moreover, such a check will provide you with the option of selecting the correct word, eliminating the need for manual editing, which saves time.
