Of course, there is a concept - replacement therapy. In some cases (for example, with insufficiency of the adrenal cortex, thyroid gland, or lack of insulin), lifelong medication is required. Avoiding insulin injections for type 1 diabetes will sooner or later lead to ketoacidosis, diabetic coma and death. Refusal to take glucosamine and chondroitin for a variety of joint diseases will not only not make you feel worse - you just won’t feel anything. Why? But because these substances, introduced from the outside, do not have a proven mechanism of action.

The fact is that the components of cartilage tissue taken in capsules and tablets in the stomach and intestines are broken down into shorter molecules, and there is no guarantee that the same molecule is then synthesized from them.

In addition, it has not been proven that a substance taken orally (through the mouth), which is an integral part of cartilage, after some time in the human body enters the very cartilage that the manufacturer so proudly claims to restore. And, by the way, identifying this is very, very simple. It is enough to “tag” the chondroitin and glucosamine molecule with a radioactive tracer - an isotope with a half-life of a month or so. Then, after 2 - 3 weeks of use, perform scintigraphy and see if there are zones of condensation of “flashes” of isotopes near the joints. This will immediately allow you to prove the most important thing - the drug for the treatment and restoration of damaged joints goes where it is needed!

But all manufacturers are embarrassedly silent. Occasionally, authoritative objections are heard that “modifying the molecule will destroy its healing properties.” In other words: “we’re already making good money from you, why should we do anything else?”?

By the way, the most authoritative organization, the FDA in the USA, still does not recognize, for example, glucosamine as a drug, but has reserved for it the status of a food additive. A large study was conducted in the USA for 4 years, from 2002 to 2006, and it did not reveal the effectiveness of the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin, which was statistically significantly different from placebo.

And yet, there are studies that have shown that the administration of chondroitin (more precisely, chondroitin sulfate) for a long time increases joint mobility and reduces pain. Of course, this cannot be considered an objective indicator, since this drug is used in complex therapy, together with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

But in the human body, our “native” chondroitin strengthens ligaments and joints, improves the synthesis of synovial fluid (hyaluronic acid), and improves the elasticity of cartilage, since it is able to retain water.
